Chapter 218 Playing Husband and Wife

"Yeah! I can go see Mommy and Charlie! I'm so happy!"
The little girl on the other end didn't wait for Anna's reaction; she was already dancing with joy.
Giorgio, ignoring Anna's puzzled look, took the phone from her hand and spoke to Simon on the other end, "Simon, if you're busy, you can put Penny on the plane, and I'll have someone take care of her."
His voice was calm and gentlemanly, but Simon felt like he was being treated as an outsider.
"I'll take Penny to Crownhaven, pick up Anna, and bring her back to Vista Heights. I hope you can wrap up your affairs quickly. Dragging this out is bad for both Anna and you."
Giorgio chuckled lightly, "Thanks. Send me the itinerary, and I'll pick up Penny when I land. See you later, Penny."
After finishing the conversation and saying goodbye to Penny, he hung up the video call.
Was he really planning to let Penny come over?
Anna looked at him with a puzzled and anxious gaze, "We really shouldn't have Penny come over for the last two days."
Giorgio was well aware of this, but after seeing Penny's tearful eyes, he couldn't bear it, and he also felt an inexplicable resistance to her being with Simon.
He glanced at her and handed back the phone, "It'll be fine."
Alright, if he said it would be fine, then it would be. After all, she was also looking forward to seeing Penny.
Anna took the phone, bowed her head to finish the food in her bowl, then went out to the small balcony to reply to Sara.
"Don't worry, I'm fine."
"The situation is a bit complicated; it would take a while for me to explain properly. Basically, Katherine fell into the water and lost consciousness during her wedding, and I accidentally crashed the wedding and was mistaken for Katherine."
"She's about to wake up now, and everything will be over. I'll be back in a couple of days."
"Don't tell anyone about this."
'Ding dong!'
'Ding dong!'
A series of message tones rang out, all of them Sara's excited replies.
"Oh my god, that's some juicy gossip! You've been hiding this from me until now! That's so not cool!"
"So, all the photos and news that have been exposed since the wedding, it's all you and Mr. Vittorio?"
"Tell me, during this time you and Mr. Vittorio have been playing husband and wife, did you actually get together?"
Anna was speechless; why were Sara's concerns always so strange?
"No, we were just purely acting; the rest of the time we were separate and living our own lives." Except for those forced kisses...
Sara sounded disappointed, "Does Mr. Vittorio have a disease? Such a beautiful woman and he's completely indifferent; I seriously doubt his sexual orientation."
Anna didn't dare to say, but Giorgio's sexual orientation was definitely not in question.
But Anna didn't plan to explain; after all, letting Sara continue with this misunderstanding and thus not holding any hope was good, right?
"Well, I'll tell you a secret, I also suspect he has an issue. We don't kiss or hug in public, and he feels nothing. Even when we sleep in the same bed at night, no matter how I dress in my nightgown, he never crosses the line.
In my opinion, for a mature man of thirty to behave this way, he either has a psychological issue or a physical one. No wonder he hadn't married Katherine, even after all those years."
Anna's exaggeration was deadpan, and she failed to notice the figure that had approached behind her at some point.
Sara's voice message came through again. "Maybe he's just respecting you? Anyway, don't badmouth my Mr. Vittorio! What you said isn't true!"
Anna knew Sara was scared and continued to tease her: "What's the point of badmouthing him? I wish something would happen between us, but the truth is just that. Believe it or not. I've got things to do, so let's talk when I get back." Anna hinted but did not reveal too much, mastering the art of deceiving.
She turned around to head back to her room, and as she did, she saw Giorgio standing behind her—tall, slender, with an air of noble vigor. God, when did he get there? And now his deep, dark unblinking eyes were fixed on her with an interest that seemed perilous.
"I... I..." Anna stammered, her face a mix of shock and pallor. Getting caught speaking ill of someone was embarrassing enough, let alone such an awkward topic.
Giorgio, with his gaze locked on her messy lashes and her guilty demeanor, stepped forward, his oppressive aura bearing down on her, "No feelings? No overstepping boundaries? Either psychologically or physically ill?"
His words echoed hers, each one rising at the end, a questioning inflection, light yet fraught with danger.
Anna felt guilty and afraid, instinctively stepping back, her lips trembling as she began to speak, "No, that's not what I meant, I..."
"Not what you meant? Then what did you mean?" Giorgio interrupted her. He took a step forward and pinned her slight figure against the balcony wall as the city lights twinkled dimly behind her. His gaze, reflecting the lights, locked onto her as he said, "You just said you wish something would happen between us, right?"
This time, his tone was even more questioning, mocking, and pressing. His breath brushed her face as he spoke; the closeness was indescribably intimate.
Anna's neck tensed up, and her head tilted back, "I... I..." She had no idea what to say! Nothing could explain away the fact that she had spoken ill of him behind his back.
Giorgio raised his hands, placing them on the wall beside her. His handsome face drew nearer every second, and his intense gaze became more compelling, "It seems you've misunderstood me. I should prove it with facts and satisfy your inner desires."
Proving with facts! Satisfying inner desires! "Don't!" Anna shook her head desperately, her neck retracting as she explained, "I was wrong. I only said those things because I didn't want Sara to think of us as a couple anymore. Please forgive me. And you are great. You’re perfectly normal, whether psychologically or physically, there's absolutely no problem! You're the best man in Crownhaven! I have no misunderstandings about that."
Her eyes earnestly blinked, her hands pressed together in a plea, the epitome of a girl's helpless charm. Giorgio's eyebrows rose, "How do you know I have no problems, and that I'm the best, without trying?"
She had experienced enough four years ago to remember it vividly to this day! Even though she wouldn't tell him, she awkwardly smiled, "I can tell, I really can. Where's Charlie? I'm going to see if he's wandered far."
She changed the subject and slipped under his arm, trying to leave, but Giorgio grabbed her wrist, pulling her back and pressing her against the wall again. "You think you can just walk away after a couple of excuses? Am I too easygoing, or is the cost of slander just too low?"
Oh! She had said she was compelled, that there were reasons! But the man's presence was too overpowering, and under his restraint, she was like a trapped lamb, unable to escape or break free. Such a posture, such close contact, was too intimate!
Anna tried to stabilize her emotions, trying her best to look at him calmly and collectedly, "What do you want then?"
