Chapter 401 You Take One Step, I Take the Remaining Steps
'How should I answer his question? I and he had nothing to do with each other in the first place. He shouldn't make these moves, right? But he acted all calm and collected, as if everything was perfectly normal. Our thoughts were completely out of sync.' Anna thought.
While she remained silent, Giorgio gently rubbed her waist and asked in a husky voice, "Anna, do you know what it means when a woman gives a man black pants?"
'It means she wants to take them off him herself!' That answer instinctively popped into Anna's mind, making her feel flustered and blush. She quickly explained, "No, I just thought it rained yesterday, and your clothes might be soaked inside and out. Since you're a germaphobe, so I had the store clerk buy them for you."
She spoke earnestly, her expression sincere.
Giorgio's brows furrowed deeper as he looked at her, saying, "Did you tell the clerk you were my girlfriend?"
Anna's voice grew louder, "She misjudged us on her own. I was just about to explain when you came over. I swear, I didn't say anything! I know you're married to my sister. How could I say such a thing?"
Giorgio's face darkened with her words, saying, "Then what about in the room earlier? You accept my kiss."
Anna said, "I didn't accept it. You were holding my waist, being domineering and forceful. So I can't resist"
She meant she was forced. All of Giorgio's gentleness vanished, replaced by an icy coldness.
'So, I had misunderstood her intentions. She was still the same.' Giorgio thought.
He suddenly let go of her, "You can leave now."
Then, ignoring his wound, he put on his coat and walked out with a cold and noble demeanor.
Anna stood there, stunned.
Feeling the unusual coldness from him and his aloof figure, she felt that her heart was being pricked by countless needles, having a dense, painful sensation.
'What was happening to me? Why did Ifeel so miserable?' Anna thought.
Giorgio paid the bill and walked out of the mall.
Turning around, he saw Anna following behind, timid and quiet. He thought she was very reluctant to walk with him and said, "Let's skip the meal together. I'll have Katherine cancel the design. Check your flight and I'll drive you to the airport. Then I'll head back to the resort."
His tone was calm and steady, with a hint of detachment. Anna didn't like his attitude.
'But what kind of attitude should I hope for from him?Gentleness? Even if he treated me that way, it wouldn't last.' Anna thought.
The ride was silent. The car arrived at the airport.
Giorgio glanced at her, feeling frustrated and uncomfortable. He wanted to say something but felt that no matter what he said, she would still have the same attitude.
Suppressing his emotions, he tried to remain calm and rational, saying, "Did you get your ticket?"
Anna nodded, "Yes, it's for 11:05 AM. I'll just wait at the airport for an hour. Don't worry. You can head back to the resort. Otherwise, Grandma Viviana will be worried."
She really did keep her distance from him at all times.
Giorgio let out a bitter laugh. He was laughing at himself and thought,' How pathetic I was.'
"Anna, because of you, I'm feeling defeated for the first time, like I don't matter at all. Go inside. I need some time alone."
Being frustrated, he took out his pack of cigarettes, lit one, and took a drag. Smoke swirled around him, shrouding his eyes and face, making him look cold and distant, angry and lonely.
Anna raised her hand to grab his arm, "Don't smoke, Because it'll affect your wound."
Giorgio let out another cold laugh.
'For her, I ignored everyone at the resort, finding her under the heavy rain. For her, I was almost mistaken as a rapist and nearly killed by her. She knew to take care of my wound but didn't understand myfeelings for her? Couldn't she be a little kinder to me?' Giorgio thought.
Frustrated, he exhaled a puff of smoke, turned his face, and locked eyes with her through the smoke. He said, "Do you care? When have you ever truly considered my feelings? When I'm good to you, you resist. When you kissed me, you didn't admit it. When I kissed you, you felt wronged, like I forced you. Anna, if this is your attitude, you shouldn't have appeared in my world and provoked me from the start."
Every word he said carried a tone of accusation, anger, and frustration. His anger was so intense that it hurt.
Anna, looking tense, explained, "That's not what I meant. I didn't feel forced or wronged. Really, I didn't think that way."
Giorgio pressed, "Then what were you thinking?"
Anna was speechless and she didn't know what she was thinking. Her mind was in a mess now.
"I didn't dislike you kissing me. I was just worried about your wound, feeling guilty, upset, and heartbroken. Seeing you angry now makes me feel bad too. I want to comfort you and explain to you. But Giorgio, can we ever be together? We can never be together. Why do you insist on making me say things I shouldn't?"
She spoke her mind, feeling aggrieved and hysterical.
Giorgio's back stiffened slightly.
'What did I hear? She said she felt bad and wanted to comfort me.' Giorgio thought.
He grabbed her wrist, pulling her closer, his eyes deeply locked onto hers.
Then he said, "Why can't we? Anna, if you take one step forward, I'll take the remaining steps."
His voice was serious. His eyes seemed to be filled with turbulent waves, like a sky full of stars, making it hard not to fall for him.
Anna was stunned, looking at him in disbelief.
'Is it possible? Could he really take those steps?' Anna thought.
She didn't know how to respond.
Her phone rang. Anna snapped back to reality, "Let me answer this."
She pulled her hand back, took out her phone, and saw it was a call from Penny. She said,"Hello? Penny."
"Mommy, when are you coming back? I miss you." She said in a soft, adorable voice over the phone.
Anna quickly comforted her gently, "Sweetie, I bought an 11 o'clock ticket. I'll be back soon. Behave yourself in class, and after school, you'll see me. I'll take you and Charlie out for Mexican food."
"Yay! I love you, Mommy!"
"I love you too." Anna hung up the phone.
The air became quiet again. She looked at Giorgio, who had already put out his cigarette, the coldness gone, and returned to his noble and elegant demeanor.
"Um..." She didn't know what to say for a moment.
Giorgio, however, spoke gracefully, "Go on. I don't feel comfortable leaving you alone in this unfamiliar city, nor do I want you to stay at the resort with Giuseppe. Think about what I said before. When I get back, give me an answer."
He was gentle, magnanimous, and patient.
Anna felt like she had fallen into a pit, which was hard to fix.
'Damn, why did I say those things earlier?' Anna thought.
All she wanted now was to escape. She nodded, "Okay."
Then she opened the car door and got out. Giorgio also got out. He walked around the car, picked up her suitcase, and walked with her side by side.
"You don't need to see me off. I can go through security myself." Anna said.
Giorgio ignored her, leading her to the VIP lane and said to the flight attendant,
"Upgrade her ticket to the first class."
Though wearing a mask, his inherent noble air was still evident. His words carried an unspoken command.
The flight attendant, having seen many wealthy people, immediately knew he was someone important. So she responded with a smile, "Yes, sir. I'll handle it for your girlfriend right away."
"Good." Giorgio took Anna's ID card from her hand and handed it to the flight attendant, along with his black card.
Anna stood aside, watching him with elegance and composure.
'Giorgio really treated me like a girlfriend!' Anna thought.
She now felt really uneasy now.
