Chapter 154 A Heart, Tinged with Bitterness

She watched the affectionate scene between Giorgio and Anna, clenched her hands tightly, and her eyes showed a mix of jealousy and disgust.

Why is it that, in such a short period of time, Giorgio had become so infatuated with Katherine?
She forcefully suppressed her emotions and stepped forward, hugging Giorgio's other arm.

"Giorgio, you look so handsome today."

In the eyes of others, the two were childhood friends, with a relationship like brother and sister, and nothing more to it.

However, Carla's expression darkened as she discreetly pulled Anna aside, adopting a motherly tone, and whispered softly, "Edith has had her sights on Giorgio for a long time. Their relationship is complicated. Now that you have taken Katherine’s place, you have to be on guard against her and not give her any opportunities."

Even Carla could see that their connection was far from ordinary. Unfortunately, it was too late for caution, given the numerous instances of intimacy they had shared in bed.

Anna replied, "Don't worry, Mrs. Vittorio's position will always belong to Katherine. No one can shake that, just as you’ve wanted." Her tone carried a hint of mockery, yet it was undeniably sincere.

The whole world now knows that Giorgio and Katherine are married, and that they are happy and in love. Even if Giorgio has his flaws, he won't consider divorce, as it would affect the Vittorio Group.

As for Carla, who appears to treat Katherine well, it’s not so much about their daughter’s happiness but rather the value Katherine brings to their family particularly her role as Mrs. Vittorio.

Carla didn't expect Anna to see through it and her face tightened. "I don't know what you're talking about. Just focus on completing the task. I'll go greet the guests," she said before turning and walking away.

Seeing Giorgio and Edith standing together, exchanging a few greetings, Davide also went to greet some familiar friends and busied himself.

Only Edith, Giorgio, and Tom, who had just come over, remained here. Tom suggested, "Giorgio, let's find a quiet spot, enjoy some wine, and chat."

Edith nodded with a smile, "Sure, Giorgio hasn't spent much time with us since his return. He must spend the evening with us."

With that, she guided Giorgio to a corner sofa, leaving Anna behind. It seems that Edith held the role as host and Anna was just a guest.

Enrico glanced coldly at her, ignoring her, and walked past. In his eyes, Anna was Simon's girlfriend, causing trouble for Giorgio, and not a good woman.

Tom, on the other hand, was friendly, "Don't mind Enrico's cold temperament. Edith and Giorgio have always had a good relationship, and she even saved Giorgio's life."

Anna smiled faintly, her gaze drifting towards the elegant and distinguished Giorgio on the luxurious sofa, and his smiling companion, Edith, and said, "It's quite alright."

As Anna walked by, Edith deliberately took a seat next to Giorgio and said, "Giorgio, I was attacked and injured last night."

Giorgio narrowed his eyes and fixed his deep gaze on her, asking, "What happened?"

Edith lifted up her dress, revealing her slender legs and the bandaged wound on her knee. She said pitifully , "Last night, I took my grandmother to the hospital for a check-up. After I dropped her off, it was already eleven o'clock. When I entered the apartment elevator, a drunken neighbor grabbed me and became aggressive. I almost got pushed down the stairs, Giorgio. Thankfully I'm fine and able to see you."

With her vulnerable and aggrieved words, important information was conveyed. First, Edith's grandmother had a late check-up. Second, luckily, she's fine, and the happiest thing is being able to see Giorgio.

Which man can resist such a woman? Unfortunately, Giorgio didn't pull Edith into his embrace but instead said, "Don't wear high heels when you're injured. You should use the secretary your father assigned to you."

Edith wiped away the tears forming at the corners of her eyes and said, "Giorgio, you are well aware that he's not just a secretary, but a boyfriend arranged by my father. I don't like him and I don't want him following me. Giorgio, please help me convince my father to call of the arrangement. You don't want me to marry that man, do you?"

Giorgio understood that the situation was more complex than it appeared. He lightly murmured, "I’ll discuss it with my uncle at another day."

"Yes, yes! Giorgio, you're the best!" Edith exclaimed excitedly, her face beaming with joy. Throughout their entire conversation, Anna's presence was entirely ignored. Anna could see it all.

Of course, he didn't want Edith to get married, because she was one of his women. Strange, even though he had known their relationship was unconventional and had nothing to do with him, why did he feel a pang of discomfort in his heart at this moment?

Suddenly, a cold sensation swept through his chest, making Anna shiver. Back to her senses, she lowered her gaze, only to find a glass of red wine spilled on herself! The chilling crimson liquid ran down her dress, staining it red and leaving her skin feeling extremely uncomfortable.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I stood up to get the wine and unexpectedly felt a sharp pain in my knee. I couldn't steady myself and... I'm truly sorry. Let me help clean it up for you," Edith apologized anxiously, her slender hands grabbing a wet tissue as she repeatedly wiped Anna's chest.

Perhaps, to someone else, this would simply be an accident. However, how could a woman not understand another? From the moment they met, Edith clung to Giorgio's arm, and even now, they were engaged in an intimate conversation. It was an unspoken demonstration.

And now, spilling red wine was clearly am intentional provocation.

Anna stood up and firmly pulled Edith's hand away. "No need, I'll go to the restroom to clean up."

Her tone was direct, revealing her disdain for manipulative bitches.

As a result, seeing her reaction, Edith's amber eyes immediately filled with mist.

"Katherine, are you angry? I really didn't mean it, I... I'm sorry. You can scold me sister; it's my mistake, and I am willing to face the consequences."

Anna found this reaction rather perplexing. What had she said or done to warrant such an apology? And why did Edith call her “sister”? She was only a few years older!

Just as Anna was about to say something, Giorgio who was seated on the couch, stood up, opened his suit jacket, and swiftly draped it over her.

"Let's go upstairs. I'll have my secretary bring a new dress."

Anna couldn’t help but wonder if he was trying to help Edith defuse the situation. Her heart sank feeling colder than the red wine that had stained her dress.

She looked at the handsome man who had given her his suit jacket, still carrying his faint warmth and smelling pleasant. However, she felt no warmth in his gesture.

She replied quietly, "Alright."

Taking a step away, she left.

Edith watched her figure and anxiously held onto Giorgio. "Giorgio, she seems upset. I really didn't mean it. Should I go explain to her?"

"No need, she's fine," Giorgio calmly replied, instructing his secretary behind him, "Go bring a new dress for my wife."

"Yes, Mr. Vittorio."

Upstairs, Anna entered the dressing room and looked at the red-stained dress in the mirror, feeling annoyed and frustrated. She had initially tried to maintain politeness at their first meeting to avoid creating enemies, but it seemed she couldn’t escape drama.

Honestly though, the scent of this red wine is strangely inviting.

She lifted the dress to take a sniff, intending to clean it with a tissue, but then...

Suddenly, her head spun, and her body went limp.

She collapsed to the ground.
