Chapter 498 Anna Collapsed
"Who's there?" Katherine wondered. She got up, using her phone's flashlight like a makeshift lamp, and headed to the bay window to peek outside. But it was pitch black, and she couldn't see squat or hear a thing.
She figured she must've imagined it, or maybe it was just a tree branch or something. She shrugged it off and went upstairs to crash.
Meanwhile, out in the garden, Anna was out cold in a pile of flowers. The heavy rain was drenching her, making her look like a drowned rat, her skin ghostly pale.
Inside, Giorgio was lying on the bed, his face colder and scarier than the storm outside. He sat up, his hand reaching for the blanket, wanting to yank it off. But then he froze, frustrated, and flopped back down.
The room was filled with the sounds of restless sleep. At the crack of dawn, around 5 AM, Giorgio got up. He went downstairs to the garden, expecting to find Anna hiding under the eaves, but instead, he found her passed out in the bushes!
She looked like a mess, her face pale, covered in rainwater, mud, leaves, and petals. In Giorgio's eyes, she looked more fragile and beat up than the flowers battered by the storm!
"Anna?" Giorgio's throat tightened. Without a second thought, he bent down, scooped her up, and carried her back inside.
Anna, soaked from a night in the rain, was as cold as a popsicle. Giorgio filled a bathtub with warm water, stripped off her wet clothes, and placed her in the tub, hoping to warm her up. Then he cranked up the heat on the air conditioner.
Slowly, Anna's body started to warm up, but her lips were still scary pale, and she wasn't reacting at all. He had planned to punish her, but seeing her like this, he suddenly felt a pang of regret!
"Tom, get to my villa on the hillside, now." Giorgio made the call in a hurry, then lifted Anna from the water, dried her off, and laid her on the bed. He found some emergency cold medicine from the first aid kit and tried to get her to take it. But Anna's lips were clamped shut, making it impossible to feed her.
Giorgio couldn't help but remember how she had fed him medicine with her lips that night. His eyes darkened, and he fed her the medicine the same way.
Soon, Tom showed up, asking, "What happened? How did Katherine get so sick?"
Seeing Katherine's car parked outside, he assumed it was her.
Giorgio didn't have time to explain and said, "Give her a full-body checkup; she was in the rain all night."
His voice wasn't cold, even showing clear concern.
Tom was taken aback. 'Giorgio had announced their marriage certificate and brought Katherine to events. Now, he's so worried. Looks like his attitude towards Katherine has really changed,' he thought.
Tom quickly nodded, eagerly examining and treating 'Katherine.'
After half an hour of hustling, he frowned and said, "Her body is really weak, and her consciousness is faint. It seems pretty serious. I can't pinpoint the exact issue right now. I've given her some medicine, and we'll need to wait for her immune system to kick in before running more tests."
Giorgio hated waiting.
And just then, Anna coughed, her face deathly pale. Giorgio's expression grew colder as he snapped, "If the patient could recover on their own, why would we need doctors? Treat her immediately."
His attitude had turned downright harsh.
Tom suggested, "Let's take her to the hospital. I think it's acute pneumonia."
Hearing that, Giorgio's eyes widened. He glanced at Tom, then walked over, picked up Anna, and headed outside.
In his arms, Anna painfully opened her eyes. In her blurry, confused vision, Anna vaguely saw Giorgio's anxious face and furrowed brows. She thought she must be dreaming. No way he'd be this nice to her in real life.
After they left, the villa went dead silent. Katherine popped out of a room, looking puzzled. She'd heard a bunch of noise earlier but had no clue what went down.
"Giorgio?" she called out cautiously, but got nothing back. She wandered around but found no one.
A smug look flashed in her eyes.
Seeing Giorgio wasn't around, she decided to stick around and wait for him. She also planned to snap some pics.
This estate was the most mysterious and luxurious hillside villa in Crownhaven. Owning such vast land was a major status symbol. Katherine posted the photos, subtly showing off the estate, causing a wave of envy and buzz.
Giorgio had no time to care what she did online, as he was totally focused on Anna's condition.
The doc diagnosed Anna with acute pneumonia and acute appendicitis. The combo left Anna in unbearable pain, suffering big time. After surgery, she still hadn't woken up, sweat pouring off her, her brows furrowed, her condition severe.
"What happened?" Giorgio asked the doc, frowning.
The doc replied respectfully, "Mr. Vittorio, Ms. Stefanelli's willpower is extremely poor, weakening her immune system, which makes her pain worse. We need to wake Ms. Stefanelli."
'Poor willpower? Wake her up?' he thought. In Giorgio's eyes, Anna liked Simon. Last night, he even thought she might not care about what he did with Katherine, that nothing he did would affect her. But now it seemed that wasn't the case.
"Leave us." Giorgio dismissed the doc, then sat by the bedside, his deep gaze on her pained face, wanting to say something. In the end, he held back.
He sat there for a long time.
By evening, Anna still hadn't woken up. The doc sensed something was off and did another check, finally discovering something shocking.
The doc reported, "Mr. Vittorio! We just found a special virus in Ms. Stefanelli's blood. We can't tell if it's contagious yet, but Ms. Stefanelli needs to be isolated immediately!"
A virus? Isolation?
Both words were serious.
Giorgio's face turned cold, and he snapped, "This morning it was acute pneumonia. Now you're saying it's a virus. I seriously doubt your medical skills."
"Mr. Vittorio, I'm sorry," the doc bowed respectfully and continued, "Ms. Stefanelli's body was normal this morning. We thought her unconsciousness was due to her willpower, but now it's been over twelve hours. A normal person wouldn't stay unconscious this long, so I re-examined her."
The doc added, "The virus is still minimal and undetermined. It could've been hidden before or emerged due to post-surgery complications. For safety, we recommend transferring her to Imperial Glory Hospital, which has a medical research center. Mr. Vittorio, the virus is a serious matter and needs to be reported and handled immediately."
Giorgio cursed under his breath, glaring coldly at the doc before walking over to Anna.
"Mr. Vittorio!" Suddenly, the doc spoke up again, timidly suggesting, "Mr. Vittorio, before we determine if it's contagious, given your esteemed status, we sincerely suggest you avoid contact with the patient."
Everyone knew that if the virus were contagious, it would have severe consequences. And Giorgio was a man holding the economic lifeline of Crownhaven, a person of high status! If he were to fall ill, the consequences would be unimaginable.
