Chapter 491 His Protection Was Given to Katherine
Giorgio's voice cut through the air like a knife.
Tony was floored. Anna? Didn't she bail on Crownhaven and ghost Giorgio? And his boss was actully zoning out over her? It had been almost two weeks, and Tony just now realized Giorgio was still hung up on Anna!
Despite his thoughts, Tony nodded. "I'm on it."
In under ten minutes, he was back. "Mr. Vittorio, Ms. Stefanelli went MIA after hitting up Vista Heights. She might've gone back to her hometown with no signal, or she's straight-up hiding."
Hiding on purpose? Giorgio found Anna's moves more and more unpredictable and said coldly, "Keep digging. Focus on Crownhaven."
Ms. Stefanelli's in Crownhaven? Tony wondered. He was definitely surprised, but seeing Giorgio's icy stare, he didn't dare ask and went back to snooping.
This time, the scoop was totally different!
He found that Anna hit Crownhaven ten days ago. She swung by the hospital's OB-GYN, checked into The Tranquil Haven Hotel, hit up city hall, a charity banquet, and a socialite club. And now she was currently laying low at The Tranquil Haven Hotel.]
"Mr. Vittorio, Ms. Stefanelli's really in Crownhaven, and she's been flying under the radar. What's the deal?" Tony was shook.
Giorgio stared at the report, his eyes narrowing.
City hall, charity banquet, socialite club—all tied to Katherine. 'What's she scheming?' Giorgio couldn't help but wonder.
He ordered, "Keep tabs on her and hit me up the second there's news."
"Got it, Mr. Vittorio." Tony took off, still scratching his head. 'If Mr. Vittorio's done with her, why's he still watching? And why's Ms. Stefanelli back?' Tony was baffled.
Just then, a voice chimed in, "Tony, Mr. Vittorio's plans still the same for tonight, right?"
Tony snapped back and saw the lovely Katherine.
He used to have a weird dislike for her, but after Anna, he realized Katherine was chill and wouldn't mess with his boss or make him sad. He'd rather see his boss with a respectful, gentle woman than watch him drink himself sick.
Tony remembered Giorgio's nightly drinking binges for the past two weeks and felt real pain. So he got more polite with Katherine.
He said, "Mrs. Vittorio, Mr. Vittorio's plans are set. He'll go home with you tonight to visit your family."
Actually, Davide had a business deal to discuss with Giorgio and was using the family hangout as a cover to network. Katherine, naturally helping her parents, smiled slightly. "Okay, thanks, Tony. See you tonight."
"Sure thing." Tony respectfully saw her off.
The next second, his phone buzzed with a report from his guy. [Tony, Ms. Stefanelli's outside the Stefanelli family estate, looks like she's hiding.]
'The Stefanelli family estate? Tonight, Mrs. Vittorio and Mr. Vittorio are heading there, and Anna's there too?' he thought.
Tony had a bad feeling and reported to Giorgio.
Hearing that, Giorgio paused, put down his work, his gaze unreadable. After a moment, he said, "Draw her out. Don't let the guards stop her tonight and see what she's really up to."
"Got it."
Outside the Stefanelli family estate, in the thick greenery, even though Anna had sprayed bug repellent, mosquitoes were still feasting on her. She came today for Katherine, not to pull the same old tricks, but to freak Katherine out!
Just an hour ago, she had dozed off and dreamed of her grandma's tragic death. When she woke up, she got a call from the hospital saying Penny's condition was really bad.
Her grandma was gone, Penny was in agony, and Katherine, the one behind it all, was still free! Tonight, she was gonna make Katherine pay!
By 8 PM, the sky was getting dark. A car's headlights cut through the gloom, and Anna sprang into action.
Suddenly, a bucket of blood splashed down from above, drenching the car's windshield. It was a total shocker!
Katherine, who was stressing about how to explain the morning's mess to Giorgio, freaked out. She screamed and instinctively clung to Giorgio.
Giorgio's eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint in them. He said coldly, "Stop the car."
Elena hit the brakes. Next thing they knew, a swarm of bats slammed into the car, making a racket. Elena shrieked, "Ah! Katherine, look!"
Katherine, scared out of her mind, peeked through the bat swarm and saw a frail, blood-soaked old woman limping toward them. She looked like a freaking zombie!
For a second, Katherine thought it was Anna's grandma!
'No way!' Katherine thought, her face going pale.
Elena was losing it too. "Katherine, it's her."
"Shut up! What are you saying?" Katherine snapped. No matter how scared she was, she couldn't show weakness in front of Giorgio.
Trying to stay cool, she said, "Get out, see who's messing with us, and chase them off! Then call the cops!"
Elena didn't want to, but under Katherine's fierce glare, she nodded reluctantly. She grabbed a stun baton from the car and got ready to step out.
Giorgio cut in, "I'll handle it."
Before they could argue, he opened the door and stepped out.
Under the car lights, he looked tall and commanding, like a dark knight, oozing power.
'Giorgio! He's with Katherine again!' Seeing Giorgio coming her way, Anna's heart clenched. She came tonight thinking Giorgio wouldn't be at the Stefanelli estate; she thought only Katherine would be there. But here he was, still caring about Katherine!
Heartache, regret, and a mess of other feelings hit her, and Anna bolted!
Giorgio saw her disappear into the greenery, his eyes narrowing as he moved to follow.
"Giorgio? What's going on? Who's messing with us?" Katherine's voice broke the moment.
Giorgio pulled back.
Damn it! She left without a word, and even though he had announced their marriage, she didn't come to find him when she got back to Crownhaven.
Giorgio couldn't figure out why he still cared about such a heartless woman!
"Giorgio?" Katherine, worried, got out of the car.
Giorgio turned back. "It's nothing. I'll have Tony look into it. Let's head inside."
'So, he didn't see anything? No suspicions?' Katherine thought. She relaxed and said, "Okay, let's go. My parents are waiting."
They walked into the Stefanelli estate side by side.
In the greenery, Anna watched them through the gaps, a cold, mocking smile on her lips.
Once, when Giorgio was good to her, she didn't think it was anything special. But now, seeing Katherine so happy under his protection, she realized that some people, once lost, could never be regained.
She even doubted how much he had really liked her. If he didn't love her enough, why did he marry Katherine for her, help her, and care for her so much? If he did love her, his love shifted too quickly, as if she never existed in his world.
She wondered if he had ever thought of her for even a second these days.
