Chapter 517 A Man's Heart, Even Harder to Guess
She couldn't figure it out even after a whole day.
From the moment he appeared last night until now, she hadn't rejected his kiss and even kissed him back.
She even showed concern for him before he left. Anna believed she didn't do anything wrong at all!
It was said that a woman's heart was hard to guess, but to Anna, a man's heart was even harder to guess!
That day, Anna received a call from Giovanni, asking her to come over and make some stomach-soothing soup for Simon.
Thinking about how Simon had helped her recently, she naturally didn't refuse.
Upon arriving at the villa, she found that there were no women's items inside, and the villa was unusually quiet.
She felt a bit surprised as she was expecting Mirlinda would show up to cause trouble for her.
After making the soup, she was about to leave a note and go when Simon happened to come back.
Seeing Anna there, he raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Anna?"
Behind him, Giovanni quickly reported, "Mr. Dalio, I noticed you haven't been eating lately and your stomach isn't well, so I asked Ms. Stefanelli to come over and make some soup for you. It was my decision."
Simon then understood and said gently, "It's fine, you can go back."
"Yes, Mr. Dalio."
After Giovanni left, Anna asked with concern, "Is your stomach not well? Have you seen a doctor? Come inside and have some soup."
"Thank you." Simon took off his suit jacket, wearing only a clean white shirt, washed his hands, and sat at the dining table.
After just one taste, he praised, "Not bad, only your cooking can be this comforting."
These words were not only overly complimentary but also too intimate.
If a man said he only liked a particular woman's cooking, it meant he liked her.
Anna felt a bit uneasy and smiled, "If so, I'll write down the detailed method for making the soup and send it to Mrs. Dalio. I'm sure after making it a few times, she can make it just as well."
Hearing this, Simon's gentle expression darkened considerably. After a long while, he uttered, "We divorced half a month ago."
"Why?" Anna's eyes widened in disbelief.
Then she thought of something and looked anxious, asking, "Was it because that time I called you and you went to Crownhaven?"
Simon took a sip of the soup, saying, "It's not your fault. There were already serious issues between us."
Their beginning was not pleasant at first, and he only felt a sense of responsibility towards her, not affection. After marriage, her constant arguments made him tired.
The freedom of the past thirty years contrasted sharply with the chaos of the few months after marriage.
Moreover, he never denied his feelings for Anna and couldn't stand by idly. Since she couldn't accept it, it was best to part ways amicably.
To get this divorce, Simon had to go through a lot and gave Mirlinda enough material compensation. While in Anna's view, Simon's non-denial meant it was indeed because of that incident.
For a moment, she felt guilty and remorseful.
She apologized, "I'm sorry, I really didn't expect it to turn out that way. I'll go explain and apologize to Miss Whitaker."
"No need." Simon stood up, grabbed her arm, and looked at her intently. "Anna, I don't like her. Could you understand?"
Anna was stunned.
She could understand their broken marriage if there was indeed no affection between then, but she still felt sympathy and guilt towards Mirlinda.
The current situation made her feel even more guilty. She really didn't know how to make amends.
Suddenly, Simon coughed and the next second, a trace of blood appeared in his palm!
"Simon, what's wrong?" Anna anxiously blurted out, helping him to the sofa and handing him a glass of warm water, asking, "Have you been to the hospital for a check-up? I'll call 911 right away."
Simon said, "Anna, did you forget my parents are doctors?"
Anna was stunned.
Simon took a breath and said, "It's just that my stomach feels weak, nothing serious. Don't worry, I'll be fine after some rest."
Anna was still a bit worried. To her, Simon was an important person in her life. She hoped he would be well.
"I'll be in Vista Heights for the next few days, preparing three meals a day for you. No refusal. Otherwise, I won't ask for your help with any difficulties in the future."
Anna, when serious, was quite authoritative.
Simon smiled helplessly. "As long as it's not a bother for you."
After all, he might not fully recover, and time might be limited. Being able to see her more was already a blessing.
Anna was unaware of that.
In the afternoon, she went to the supermarket to buy stomach-soothing ingredients and made nourishing soup for Simon in the evening.
When she was a child, her grandmother loved food therapy, saying it tasted better than medicine. Now it was coming in handy, which was great.
She suddenly remembered Giorgio also had stomach issues before, even vomiting blood. 'Do these big shots all get so busy that they can't take care of their own bodies?' she thought.
Thinking about it, Anna took out her phone and sent a message to Giorgio.
[Giorgio, remember to eat even if you're busy with work.]
[I want to see a picture of you eating. Can you send me one?]
The message went unanswered.
Still angry?
Anna felt a bit frustrated and directly sent another message.
[Next time we meet, I'll cheer you up the way you liked before. How about that?]
After sending it, the soup in the pot started boiling, and Anna quickly put down her phone to tend to the pot.
On the other end, Giorgio, who had just finished a meeting and returned to his office, saw the messages from Anna, and his lips gradually softened and curved upwards.
He was upset because she always seemed indifferent, showing no reliance on him. It was as if he, as her boyfriend, was dispensable and insignificant.
Now, with three consecutive messages, it showed she still cared.
He said to Tony, "Tony, Anna sent three messages in a row, which means she misses me. Arrange the helicopter for tonight as usual."
Toney wanted to say that a round trip of five hours overnight was too much for the body! And three messages really weren't much!
Once again, he thought Giorgio was misunderstanding something.
He didn't dare to say it, so he obediently went to make the arrangements.
At 8 PM, Giorgio boarded the helicopter again to Vista Heights.
His mind still lingered on her messages and he remembered the ways she had explained to please a boyfriend. Thinking of that, his eyes lit up with a warm glow, like fireworks.
It seemed that after the marriage status was lifted, some restraints were also lifted.
She was his woman, no need to hold back anymore.
Tonight, he would teach her well how to be a responsible girlfriend.
At 11 PM, Giorgio arrived at the hospital.
He pushed the door open and locked it behind him.
However, as he walked closer, he found the bed neatly made with no one on it.
The lights were on, and the quilt was folded neatly.
Giorgio thought Anna was still with Penny and went to the ICU.
"Penny's father? You have time to come over again tonight?" the nurse asked.
Giorgio responded faintly and asked, "Is the child's mother not here?"
The nurse nodded, "Yes, she went out in the afternoon and hasn't come back. She also sent a message saying she wouldn't be back tonight and asked us to help take care of the child."
Hearing that, Giorgio frowned.
Went out in the afternoon and hasn't come back? Won't be back tonight?
'She's in Vista Heights. What could be keeping her so busy?' he wondered.
