Chapter 456 Penny's Background Raises Doubts
As soon as she touched Charlie's arm, he pushed her away!
Anna hit the ground.
"Anna!"
Giorgio frowned, his eyes on Charlie. He pulled out his phone and called Tom.
By the time Tom arrived, Charlie had locked himself in his room, dealing with another meltdown.
"What happened? How did Charlie end up like this again? Not even Ms. Stefanelli could calm him down?" Tom asked.
Anna had previously been a miracle worker with Charlie. Now, she realized seeing that her with Giorgio made Charlie feel betrayed and hurt again.
She reluctantly explained everything to Tom.
Tom was shocked. Giorgio and Anna were dating? And he divorced Katherine just like that?
"Giorgio, you didn't tell us about this."
Giorgio looked at him. "Is that really the main issue right now?"
'No, it's Charlie's condition!' Tom thought.
Tom quickly composed himself. "Kids are sensitive, especially about their parents' relationships. Charlie was probably happy and hopeful when he found out you two were dating. But then Giorgio, you did that, and Charlie saw it. It disappointed him and created a rift between you. This then festered and turned into obsessive hatred. It's normal. And then, Ms. Stefanelli, you didn't understand him either. Charlie probably thinks all adults are bad, so he won't listen to you. We need to address the root of the problem and resolve Charlie's inner conflict."
Anna frowned. "But Charlie won't give us a chance to explain and doesn't want to listen. Even if he does, he thinks we're lying. What should we do?"
Tom was stumped. He knew how terrifying Charlie could be when he shut everyone out.
He felt troubled and was starting to get a headache.
"I'll go stay with Charlie!" Penny stood up, innocently holding a teddy bear, her eyes bright with hope.
"No," Giorgio immediately rejected the idea, "Charlie's thoughts are messed up right now; he might hurt Penny."
Tom had seen Charlie go crazy. "Yeah, when Charlie has an episode, he'd even bite his own father. It's not safe for you to go in, Penny."
"But I don't want Charlie to stay like this. Charlie used to take care of me, now I want to stay with him." Penny said firmly, then pushed open the door and walked in.
"Penny." Giorgio wanted to pull her back.
For some reason, he couldn't bear to let the little girl be in danger.
But Anna said, "Let Penny try. She's the only one who can get close to Charlie right now."
Tom, on the other hand, frowned.
As Penny turned around, her determined stance exuded fearlessness and pride, reminding him strongly of Giorgio.
On top of that, he had always thought Penny and Charlie looked alike.
"Giorgio, come here." Tom quietly pulled Giorgio to a corner and whispered, "Don't you think Penny and Charlie look very similar?"
Giorgio frowned.
The first time he saw Penny, he felt she looked familiar. Now that Tom mentioned it, she did look a bit like Charlie.
"Do you think they were fated to be together?" Giorgio asked.
Tom almost choked in surprise..
"Don't you think they're a little young to have us talking about if they're fated to be together? Besides, couples only start looking alike when they've spent a long time together. Little kids don't have that. What I mean is, do you think they could be twins?"
'Fraternal twins?' Giorgio thought, frowning.
'They do look alike. But why would Katherine give birth to twins and abandon the daughter? Besides, Charlie already checked Penny's background and found nothing,' he pondered.
Out loud, hesaid, "There are 331 million people in the U.S., and we only have five facial features. Statistically, it's not surprising to find similarities."
'Is that so?' Tom thought, feeling that it was still too much of a stretch to call it a coincidence.
"Dr. Shaw, are you discussing Charlie's condition?" Anna asked, stepping forward.
Tom pushed his speculations to the back of his mind and looked at Anna.
"Ms. Stefanelli, is Penny really your brother and sister-in-law's child?"
Anna's felt anxious. She had overheard their conversation and was worried, so she interrupted. But she didn't expect Tom to ask her about it so boldly!
She clenched her hands and pretended not to understand.
"Yes, she is. Dr. Shaw, why are you asking such a question? Do you think Penny looks like Charlie? Actually, all cute little kids look alike. In a kindergarten, you might even say everyone looks alike."
Thinking about it, it seemed true.
Seeing him waver, Anna seized the opportunity to change the subject.
"Dr. Shaw, can we secretly check the room? I'm very worried about Penny."
Tom remembered what he had been summoned for. "Yes."
The group headed to the study to watch the security monitors.
Anna finally breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't know that Giorgio noticed her initial tension, guilt, and eventual relaxation.
What was she anxious about?
In the room, Penny scooted closer to Charlie, tugging at his shirt.
"Charlie, they all say you're sick. I'm so worried. What illness do you have? Can it be cured?"
Charlie got angry. "They're the ones who are sick! The whole family is sick!"
Penny frowned adorably. "You're insulting Uncle Giorgio's family, but you're part of it too."
Charlie choked and then denied it. "Who said I'm part of his family? I don't want to be related with that irresponsible, woman-betraying, child-abandoning scumbag."
Penny pouted. "I won't let you insult Uncle Giorgio like that. In my heart, I know that Uncle Giorgio is great and honorable. Uncle Giorgio did that to get a divorce so he could marry my mommy. If you don't believe me, look at this."
She handed her phone to Charlie.
Charlie looked down.
On it was a message edited by Anna and sent to Penny's phone a few minutes ago. It explained everything clearly from beginning to end.
After reading it, Charlie frowned.
"Impossible, it must be a lie! Auntie Anna is now smitten by my dad's looks and is helping him to lie."
Penny said, "Charlie, you can get mad at me, but you can't say mean things about my mommy. My mommy never lies. If you don't believe this, you should at least believe the injuries on your dad, right? Go see for yourself if you dare. You're mean, and I don't want to talk to you anymore."
After saying that, Penny jumped off the bed and walked away.
Charlie panicked.
Penny was his favorite person and the only girl he liked. He usually couldn't do enough to make her happy and protect her, and now he had made her really angry!
His face became serious, and he anxiously chased after her.
"Penny, Penny, I didn't insult your mommy, listen to me explain."
However, before he could finish, he suddenly saw something unbelievable!
