Chapter 25 Sleeping with Him
Anna had initially planned to take care of Charlie as early as possible and retreat to her own room to avoid any interactions with him, but now she found herself in an awkward situation, her face full of discomfort.
If she remembered correctly, she had been way too rude and had crossed the line with him last night.
She awkwardly lowered her head and apologized in a quiet, mosquito-like voice, "I'm sorry, I was drunk last night."
Giorgio hadn't expected her to be in his room. He looked at her awkward and embarrassed state and casually said, "Indeed, it's quite inappropriate. This is the first time I've been taken advantage of by a woman."
His voice seemed nonchalant, but it was hard to tell if he was joking or reprimanding, and it made the listener blush and feel hot-faced.
Anna felt even more embarrassed, thinking that she shouldn't have apologized if he was going to respond like this!
Apologizing had only made things more awkward!
She lowered her head even more, her face red with embarrassment, and apologized again, "I'm sorry, it was my mistake. If you're really angry, you can punish me. It wasn't intentional."
Giorgio chuckled and raised an eyebrow, asking, "Punish? Violate you too?"
Cough, cough!
Anna couldn't even imagine that scene, shaking her head desperately and saying, "No! Physical punishment, fines, anything you want."
She declined firmly and resolutely.
Giorgio raised the corners of his mouth, teasingly asking, "I was just joking, why are you taking it so seriously? Did you really think I was interested? "
His voice carried a hint of mockery and teasing.
She had been scared!
Damn this man!
“Cat got your tongue?”
Anna shivered. “No, no. It's just...”
“I don’t bite, Anna. Unless you ask me very nicely.”
W-what?
When Anna did not reply, Giorgio said further, “I've heard whispers that you have a taste for danger. Something tells me you're not as innocent as you seem.”
“I have no idea what you're talking about, Giorgio. I'm just a simple woman.”
“I highly doubt that, Anna.”
Giorgio didn't mention the incident further. His gaze swept around the room, falling on the clothes in her hand, he asked, "Is Charlie taking a bath?"
Only now did Anna recall the child and nodded, "Yes."
She hurriedly ran into the bathroom and saw that Charlie had actually fallen asleep in the bathtub! His small body was sliding downwards, about to submerge in the water. She was alarmed and quickly approached, "Charlie, wake up. Dry yourself off and go back to bed."
Giorgio heard the sound and walked into the bathroom. Seeing Anna, whose hand was in a cast, about to pick up Charlie, his face darkened and he walked over, saying, "I'll do it."
Anna uttered an acknowledgment and stepped back, watching as he picked up Charlie from the bathtub. She quickly grabbed a towel and followed them out.
After he placed Charlie next to the bed, she reached out with her hand and carefully dried Charlie's body.
The child slept soundly and peacefully.
With the close proximity, the woman's gentle and delicate movements, and the faint, pleasant fragrance emanating from her, Giorgio couldn't help but soften his gaze.
Anna was giving the child a dry-off when she suddenly felt a pain in her head.
"Ah!" Caught off guard, she fell back onto the bed, and when she looked up, she saw Charlie gripping her hair tightly with one hand and clutching Giorgio's shirt with the other, murmuring something:
"Mummy, don't leave... Daddy and Mummy sleep close to me."
His voice was small, but it carried a deep longing and hope.
A six-year-old child was in desperate need of a warm family at this time. How lacking warmth must he be?
Anna felt a pang of heartache and self-blame.
Giorgio didn't expect Charlie, who seemed indifferent and unneedy, to have such needs in his heart.
His gaze narrowed, watching Charlie's small, determined hands, and he couldn't bear to pry them open. He said, "You sleep inside, and I'll leave once he's sound asleep."
"Ah?" Sleep inside, his bed?
Anna felt uneasy and wanted to say something, but before she could, Giorgio had already elegantly lay down next to the child. His relaxed and casual posture showed no signs of discomfort or awkwardness.
After all, he was doing it for Charlie, and if she made a big deal out of it, it would only make her look too eager.
Helpless, she kicked off her shoes and lay down on the inside.
The quilt covered them, the main light switched off, leaving only a soft bedside lamp, and everything became warm and quiet.
The only sound was their breathing.
Anna tried to convince herself to remain calm, but with the small Charlie between them, there was the dignified and handsome man in such close proximity. She instinctively recalled the night from seven years ago when they slept together, her heart filled with a sense of constraint and uneasiness that made it impossible to remain calm.
This was simply torture!
She never expected it to become even more torturous.
After dozing off for a while, Anna woke up and picked up her phone from the cabinet by the bed, seeing it was a call from Sara. She yawned and answered, "Hello? Sara, good morning."
Sara didn't greet her back, but spoke urgently, "Anna, something's wrong with Penny!"
What!
Something was wrong with Penny!
Anna's heart jumped to her throat, shocked and worried, she asked, "What happened to Penny?"
