Chapter 419 Anna was Sick
Then he saw the large bed. Anna was lying on it, still unconscious. Her beautiful eyebrows were furrowed, fine beads of sweat covered her forehead, and her cheeks were slightly flushed.
She didn't look normal.
"Anna?" Giuseppe furrowed his brow, walked over, and touched her forehead, realizing it was burning hot!
"She's got a fever. Call the doctor immediately."
"What? Yes!"
Elena quickly ran out.
Soon, the doctor arrived to examine Anna and took her temperature:
"A high fever of 102.2 degrees, we need to start physical cooling and treatment immediately."
Saying this, he quickly opened his medical kit.
Giuseppe stood by, his gentle eyes narrowing.
102.2°F?
A normal human body temperature was between 96.8 to 98.96°F, such a high temperature was considered a severe fever.
But she was fine last night. How did she catch a cold and get sick overnight?
Worried, he asked Elena to bring a basin of water and carefully applied a cold compress to her forehead, trying to reduce the fever physically.
However, after three hours of everyone working tirelessly, Anna's high fever showed no signs of abating.
"What's going on? If this continues, it could cause serious problems."
Giuseppe stared at the doctor.
The doctor nervously explained, "Mr. Vittorio, I've already used the best medication and given Ms. Stefanelli antipyretics. Normally, the fever should subside in three hours, but Ms. Stefanelli's condition is due to her weak constitution and emotional stress, which has weakened her immune system, causing the persistent fever."
‘What does that mean? A weak constitution and emotional stress. Could it be because of me last night?’ Giuseppe thought.
Giuseppe's gaze fell on Anna's flushed neck, his eyes darkening with guilt.
He took off his glasses and rubbed his temples, asking, "What do we do now? Just let her keep burning up?"
"No, no. I'll think of something else right away." The doctor quickly walked to the bedside and conducted a more thorough examination of Anna.
Anna indeed had a very weak constitution.
Moreover, she was the type who either didn't get sick or got seriously ill when she did.
At this moment, her consciousness was completely blurred, and she felt like she was sinking into a quagmire, feeling uncomfortable, suffocated, and nauseated.
Sweat poured from her body, soaking the blanket.
"I feel awful," she groaned.
Giuseppe walked over, sat down, and held her hand, speaking softly, "Anna, I'm here, and the doctor is too. You'll be okay."
He then looked at Elena. "Get some water and a straw, and find a maid to change her clothes."
Elena immediately complied, "Yes."
Giuseppe continued to care for Anna. He didn't leave for work even at night. Unfortunately, Anna showed no signs of improvement!
"Are you sure you're a doctor? If she doesn't get better, you'll never practice medicine again!"
At this point, Giuseppe had lost his patience and was furious.
The doctor dropped to his knees with a thud. "Mr. Vittorio, I'm sorry, I've really done my best. Ms. Stefanelli needs to pull through on her own."
"If she has to pull through on her own, we don't need doctors. Get out." Giuseppe was so angry he almost threw a cup at the doctor's head.
Henna had just come upstairs when she heard the outburst. She quickly walked into the room. "Giuseppe, why are you losing your temper?"
As a mother, she was more strict and didn't allow him to lose control.
Therefore, Giuseppe never let her know about his condition or showed his emotions in front of her.
He took a deep breath and steadied his voice. "Anna is sick with a fever. We've been treating her all day with no improvement, and I'm questioning the doctor's competence."
Hearing that Anna was sick, Henna's face turned even more serious. "Giuseppe, you can't distinguish between what's important and what's not. You are now the head of the Greenwood project. You should focus on this big project and take the opportunity to advance, not stay home worrying about a woman being sick. You're being foolish.Send Anna away immediately!"
Her words were angry and accusatory, filled with intense frustration.
For her, work always came first. Especially such a significant project like Greenwood, it couldn't be delayed.
Giuseppe used to put work first too. But now, looking at the suffering Anna on the bed, his heart felt like it was being gripped by an invisible hand.
"Mom, I got the Greenwood project because of Anna. Now that she's sick, I should take care of her. I know what I'm doing. Once Anna wakes up, I'll get back to work."
"Wait for her to wake up? You're not a doctor. She doesn't need you to wait." Henna was furious.
Her voice echoed in the room, noisy and irritable.
Anna vaguely heard it, painfully opened her eyes, saw a few blurry figures, and struggled to speak, "Water."
Giuseppe heard her and immediately walked over. "Anna? You're awake? Here's some water."
He brought the water and placed the straw at her lips.
Henna watched from the side, both angry and exasperated. Her son had never taken care of anyone like this before.
"Anna, if you're fine, don't pretend to be sick and delay Giuseppe's work."
"Mom!" Giuseppe interrupted her, his eyes serious.
"Anna needs rest. You should go back."
For the first time, he spoke to his mother so firmly. Henna never expected her son to speak to her like this because of Anna! For a moment, her heart filled with more resentment towards Anna. She glared at her and said to Giuseppe, "You must go to the office tomorrow."
Then, she left angrily.
The room fell silent.
Giuseppe looked at Anna gently. "Don't mind her. How do you feel?"
Anna drank the sweet water, her lips gradually moistening. The water flowed down her throat into her lungs, slightly alleviating her discomfort.
She weakly nodded and fell asleep again. ‘Why is it still like this?’ he thought.
Giuseppe looked at the doctor.
The doctor quickly explained, "Ms. Stefanelli waking up indicates her body is improving, but her constitution is too weak, and she doesn't have the energy yet. Don't worry, Mr. Vittorio. Based on her condition, Ms. Stefanelli should recover by tomorrow morning."
Only then did Giuseppe feel relieved.
So, for the rest of the night, Giuseppe stayed by Anna's bedside, taking care of her without sleeping.
That night, Penny didn't sleep well.
Perhaps it was a psychic connection; she dreamed of Anna falling off a cliff and woke up crying at five in the morning.
Giorgio, who hadn't slept, got up and turned on the light.
Seeing the girl crying her heart out, he softened and held her in his arms. "Penny? Did you have a nightmare? It's okay, don't be afraid, Uncle is here."
His voice was gentle, and his embrace was comforting.
Penny curled up in his arms. "I dreamed that Mommy fell off a cliff and died. Uncle, I miss Mommy. I want to see Mommy."
Penny cried inconsolably.
Hearing about Anna, Giorgio's gentle eyes darkened.
Thinking of her actions and her resolute departure, his handsome face was filled with coldness and detachment.
"It's very late now. If we go, we'll wake her up. I'll have Charlie take you there in the morning, okay? Trust Uncle, it was just a dream."
After all, that woman was scheming, and with Giuseppe around, she wouldn't be in any danger.
Penny nodded tearfully. "Then, Uncle, take me to see Mommy first thing in the morning."
"Okay. Go to sleep."
Giorgio gently coaxed Penny to sleep, but he remained wide awake.
The things he hated the most: betrayal, scheming, and being late. However, Anna had done the first two. No one had ever treated him like this.
