Chapter 403 Anna, I want to see you
It was Giuseppe.
Why was he calling her now? Anna wondered.
She felt grateful to Giuseppe. After getting to know him, she saw him as a friend, a good person at first. But his lack of trust shattered her feelings. Now, all she felt was gratitude.
After collecting her thoughts, she answered the call, "Mr. Vittorio, hey, what's up?"
"Anna, I'm sorry."
His first words were an apology. Anna raised an eyebrow, surprised and curious. "What's wrong?"
Giuseppe said, "About the design draft, I misunderstood you. I didn't expect Katherine to be so bold, and I didn't expect you to come up with such a great design. I'm sorry."
Anna was stunned. She didn't care about his apology. Some hurts can't be mended with an apology. She cared about how he realized he misunderstood her.
Giuseppe pursed his lips and said honestly, "Earlier, Uncle Giorgio was in the room scolding Katherine, and I happened to be outside the door."
So that's how it was. Giorgio actually had scolded Katherine for her sake? She felt a strange sensation in her heart, like a stone dropped into a lake, creating ripples.
"Anna, I heard from Uncle Giorgio that you encountered danger on your way down the mountain. It's my fault for not protecting you well. Are you home now?"
Anna snapped back to reality. "I'm home, having Mexican food with Penny, so don't worry." She remembered her two kids inside and said, "Mr. Vittorio, if there's nothing else, I'll hang up now."
"Anna," Giuseppe stopped her and asked, "Are you mad at me? I'll make it up to you when I get back."
Anna had already moved on. She felt wronged when she was misunderstood, but after the apology, everything felt insignificant.
"I'm not mad. In that situation, it was natural to misunderstand. If I were you, I might not have believed myself either. Alright, I'm going to eat my food. Take care, bye," she responded.
She hung up and walked back inside. Just as she sat down, her phone rang again. This time, it was Giorgio. 'Are they teaming up to call me?' she thought.
"Mommy, it's Uncle Giorgio calling, answer it."
"I want to hear daddy's voice! Auntie, put it on speaker."
Penny and Charlie urged her cutely. Anna had no choice but to answer. But thinking about everything that had happened last night and what he had said before sending her to the airport, she felt nervous and her voice was as soft as a mosquito. "Hello?"
To Giorgio, her voice sounded sweet, extremely enchanting. His voice also became gentle. "Are you home? No problems on the way?"
Anna wanted to say, not only did he put her on the plane, but he also had someone waiting at the airport to pick her up. What could go wrong?
"Yes, no problems. How's your wound? Are you okay? Remember not to get it wet, and if it's serious, see a doctor. Don't be stubborn."
After all, it was her fault, and she was really concerned about him.
Giorgio, rarely hearing her show concern, smiled slightly. "With your concern, I'm already halfway healed."
Giorgio's words were too mushy. Anna realized that although he was a mature man in his thirties with the stability, restraint, and sense of security that he should have, he was also very good at saying flirtatious things, not losing to young men at all.
"I have good news for you. Do you want to hear it?" he asked.
Anna knew what it was and said, "You mean the thing about Katherine's design draft? Mr. Vittorio just told me."
Upon hearing this, Giorgio's expression turned cold, and even his voice lost its gentleness. "You contacted him as soon as you got off the plane?" he asked sarcastically.
Anna instinctively explained, "No, he overheard your conversation with Katherine and called to apologize."
Only then did Giorgio's mood slightly improve, and he asked, "So, you forgave him?"
"Yes," Anna answered matter-of-factly.
Just as Giorgio was about to hang up in anger, she added, "My relationship with him isn’t that deep, so it’s not about whether I’m mad or should forgive him."
She meant that whether he misunderstood her or not wasn’t that important.
Giorgio felt helpless. Couldn't she have said all that at once? He was just getting angry, and his chest hurt.
Calming down, he said, "That is indeed good news. What I wanted to tell you is that the design competition will be held again, and submissions will be anonymous this time. You can create a new proposal."
"Really? How are you so nice?"
Giorgio smiled elegantly. "I have many good qualities. If you agree to what I said before, you’ll experience many of them."
Anna was speechless, her face flushed.
Next to her, Penny and Charlie chimed in, "Wow! Uncle is indirectly proposing to mommy!" "Auntie, daddy! Your relationship is suspicious!"
Their voices were full of teasing and mischief. Anna just remeberedthey were there too and blushed even more.
"I’m not talking to you anymore, bye." Then she hung up and placed some meatballs on their plates. "Eat your food, kids."
Penny remarked, "Mommy, you’re blushing."
Charlie added, "Auntie, actually, my daddy is so excellent. It’s not embarrassing to fall in love with him."
Anna was speechless.
After dinner, Penny insisted on sleeping next to Charlie, so Anna had to stay in Giorgio’s room.
On the large bed, there was a lingering fresh scent, like sunlight filtering through a forest after rain, very pleasant. Just like him, elegant, mature, and handsome.
'What’s wrong with me? Why am I still thinking of Giorgio, even under the covers?' she thought.
Anna quickly patted her face and started thinking about the design. Creating a chain of Mexican restaurants with ancient tree features was a good design, but since it was scrapped, it couldn’t be used. What other good ideas could there be?
An notification sounded. Afraid of waking the kids, Anna turned off the sound, unlocked her screen, and saw a message from Giorgio.
Giorgio: [Do you have any ideas for the design?]
Giorgio: [Say something nice, and I’ll give you a hint.]
'Nice words? What does he want to hear?' she thought.
Anna refused to say anything, pulled up the covers over her head, and replied.
Anna: [No, I’ll think of it myself.]
Giorgio: [Are you sure you don't want some help? Heard when women say no, they're actually playing hard to get.]
His playfulness had Anna blushing, feeling a mix of fluster and irritation.
[Why do you have to be so cheeky?] she retorted.
In a seamless maneuver, he pretended innocence, [What's wrong with asking? Just tryna assist.]
The banter left Anna at a loss; their flirtatious exchange revealed contrasting shame levels, leaving her flustered. With a shy smile, she shot another message, feeling like a schoolgirl with a secret crush.
Putting her phone aside, she savored a gulp of fresh air with her head out of the covers, only to feel a subtle buzz signaling Giorgio's response.
His message was short but impactful: [Anna, I want to see you.]
Anna’s heart jumped to her throat, and she felt her breath getting hotter. For some reason, seeing his words, she had a strange thought—She really wanted to see him too.
