Chapter 221 Mr. Vittorio's Naïveté
He was confident in his own abilities, or rather, in Little Tony's efficiency in handling matters.
Not to mention that Penny wouldn't be exposed, but even if she were, he had ways to deal with it.
Anna was taken aback, Why did he have to walk over while speaking? Such close proximity was making her feel uneasy!
No, the focus now should be on Penny. He had no idea what public opinion meant for ordinary people like them, nor did he understand the significance of a daughter to her mother.
She didn't want to put her daughter in any danger.
"You're very capable, but if the news leaks, the pressure from public opinion can be overwhelming.
Penny, be good, listen to Mommy and go back to the villa first, okay? Mommy will be discharged soon and come back to be with you."
Anna's voice was gentle yet tinged with seriousness.
Penny could sense that her mother's mood was off and pursed her lips.
"Okay, Mommy, Penny will be obedient. You take care of yourself."
"Mhm." Anna was relieved and stroked her little girl's head, then looked towards Giorgio.
"Could you please make the arrangements?"
Giorgio couldn't refuse her, and with an indulgent gaze at Penny, he comforted her, "After lunch, Uncle will have Charlie accompany you."
"Yay! I'm so happy to play with Charlie!"
Penny was dancing with joy, her mood instantly shifting from downcast to cheerful.
Anna watched them, feeling like she was being cast as the villain.
Well, as long as they got through the next couple of days safely.
After breakfast, the two children left under Little Tony's care.
The hospital room became quiet again.
Tom walked in, complaining from the get-go.
"Giorgio, I heard Miss Stefanelli's ailment was just menstrual cramps, and I'm not a gynecologist. Why did you have me transferred here? Don't you know, our hospital just got a pretty new nurse; I was planning to pursue her. Your call has completely ruined my love life!"
He still didn't have a girlfriend?
Anna was slightly surprised, more so that Giorgio had called Tom over for Penny's sake.
No wonder he was so confident earlier that nothing would happen...
"You can go back now," the man said with a calm and indifferent voice.
Tom was taken aback. "What? You call me here on a whim and then dismiss me just as easily?"
Giorgio glanced at him, "I called you over because there was a situation that needed assistance. Now that it's resolved, you can either stay or go back."
Tom felt like he was being teased.
Frustrated, Tom sat down. "I'm not leaving. I heard there's news about Giorgio buying supplies for Miss Stefanelli. I want to enjoy this a bit longer and see what everyone's saying."
What? Giorgio buying tampons was trending news?
Anna was astonished.
So was Giorgio, his brow furrowing.
He wore a mask and kept a low profile; he shouldn't have been recognized.
Yet, Tom's next words confirmed the reality.
"Vittorio Group CEO, Giorgio, spotted buying female products at a supermarket! Surprisingly, Mr. Vittorio even asked the sales clerk for advice, leaving the clerk in an awkward position.
And more astonishingly, Mr. Vittorio, despite recognizing the sales tactic, still purchased the products for his wife, including tampons, menstrual heat patches, and period pants. What do you think of Mr. Vittorio?"
"Wow, rich, handsome, and considerate!"
"What a perfect man!"
"Am I the only one who finds Mr. Vittorio's naïveté kind of adorable?"
"So silly, so cute."
Each word echoed the voices of the netizens, pretentious, exaggerated, and with a teasing mockery.
Giorgio's complexion darkened bit by bit, and with a lift of his eyes, a sharp gaze shot towards him.
Under Giorgio's intense stare, Tom immediately shut up and stood up. "No, no, no, I'm wrong. I just remembered I have a lunch date with the nurse. I'll be going back now."
With that, he left without a moment's delay.
The room once again returned to silence.
Anna sat on the hospital bed, having seen the news Tom mentioned, as well as videos taken by netizens on the scene. She couldn't help but want to laugh.
"What are you laughing at?" Suddenly, a cold, crisp voice rang out.
Anna looked up to see a distinguished man standing beside the bed, who, from a lower vantage point, seemed to exude an even more imposing aura.
"I... I'm not laughing at anything," she said with feigned earnestness, "I just saw a meme that was really funny, that's all." Her hand, clutching the phone, guiltily slid back under the covers.
Giorgio eyed her coldly as his lips curved slightly, "When you lie, your eyelashes flutter, your eyes dart about, and you can’t bear to meet my gaze."
His voice was deep, magnetic, and full of certainty. He was convinced she was lying.
Anna's face choked up, overwhelmed with embarrassment.
But that wasn't right, she thought. Shouldn't he be the one feeling embarrassed about this situation? Why was it her, the one who found humor in it?
Suddenly feeling emboldened, she retorted, "Alright, I was looking at your news, and I do find you funny, super funny! You knew to distrust the sales pitch, yet you still bought so much, silly."
The woman lifted her chin slightly, trying to regain her own presence.
Giorgio looked at her defiant face and the directness in her eyes. His gaze was deep and profound. After about five seconds, he said, "After seeing you in so much pain, I bought them to try them out, hoping it could help you. If you think that's stupid, then go ahead and laugh."
With that, he casually walked over to the sofa and continued reviewing his documents, his noble posture and elegant figure showing he didn't take the matter to heart.
Anna stood there, dumbfounded. What did he just say?
He bought them because she was in pain, meaning that even if they were a sham, he was willing to try them? Hoping to alleviate some of her discomfort...
Her heart suddenly began to race.
It beat fast and hard, and a warmth began to coil around her heart, spreading through her blood and making her body feel slightly feverish.
...
For the rest of the day, Anna dared not look at Giorgio. Strangely, whenever she thought about him buying sanitary pads for her, out of concern for her pain, she felt incredibly awkward.
In the afternoon, the specialist in charge of her case came for a check-up and asked gently, "Mrs. Vittorio, how is the pain?"
Anna replied truthfully, "It's still there a little, but not as bad as before."
The doctor glanced at Giorgio and said, "That's good to hear. If Mrs. Vittorio doesn't mind, could you share one of the sanitary tampons Mr. Vittorio bought with me? I'd like to take it back for research, to see if there's a correlation between your pain relief and the tampon, and whether the ingredients are as miraculous as the salesperson claimed."
There it was again, that topic!
Bringing it up at this time seemed a bit deliberate.
Sitting by the window working, Giorgio's hand paused, his expression cool and awkward.
Was this topic never going to be dropped?
