Chapter 484 Grandma Passed Away
Not sure how long it took, but when the car slammed into the ground with a nasty jolt, Elodie's bloodied face popped up in front of her.
"Grandma! Grandma!" Anna screamed, scared out of her mind. But she couldn't make a sound!
On the edge of death, Elodie barely moved her lips and whispered, "Katherine pushed me, this... this car crash."
Before she could finish, blood gushed from her mouth, and her eyes went dark.
"Grandma!" Anna screamed, heart shattered.
The next second, she too fell into endless darkness.
The big car crash in Vista Heights got everyone talking. Local papers and TV stations were all over it. Everyone had something to say.
Someone said, "That crash was brutal!"
Others added, "A big truck smashed into a small car, and three people died right there."
Someone chimed in, "I heard there was a 3-year-old kid inside, so sad."
Others worried, "Hope the rest make it."
The huge crash pulled in a bunch of departments, and many officials got involved. Naturally, The Moretti Group, being the biggest player in the medical field, took charge of the rescue. But when Richard rushed downstairs to see the patients and saw that familiar face, he was floored.
Anna? Simon's ex? The crash victim was her!
Richard was totally shocked.
"Director?" a doctor called out.
Richard snapped back to reality and said, "It's nothing, quick, get ready for surgery."
A life-and-death battle officially kicked off.
No one knew how long the darkness lasted before Anna finally opened her eyes. She suddenly remembered something, her face going pale, shouting in panic, "Grandma! Where's my grandma? And Penny! Sara!"
"Miss, don't move!" The nurse and doctor rushed to hold her down, saying, "You've got multiple injuries. You can't move around. Please lie down."
But Anna didn't care, her heart was full of worry for her family. She insisted, "I need to see my grandma, my daughter, and my friend. Let me go!"
"Miss, if you keep this up, we'll have to sedate you." The doctor threatened, pushing Anna back onto the bed.
Anna couldn't fight against so many people alone. Plus, she was hurt, and every move was agony. In less than a minute, she lost her strength, looking at the doctor anxiously, pleading, "Doc, I won't move. Just tell me how they are, okay? As a family member, I have the right to know."
The doctor had no choice but to tell her, "Miss, the crash was severe. Your grandma and the driver showed no signs of life before getting to the hospital. They're in the morgue now."
The doctor added, "Your daughter is seriously hurt and still under observation in the ICU. Your friend is fine, just a minor fracture."
Anna couldn't hear the rest!
Her grandma was gone! She had just seen Elodie get better! She didn't even get to hear Elodie call her Anna!
And Penny. Penny was so young, but now she was in the ICU.
"No, you must be lying to me," Anna broke down, holding her head, trying to calm herself.
No one knew where she got the strength, but she pushed away all the doctors and nurses and ran outside, shouting, "Grandma, Penny, you'll be fine! You'll be fine!"
"Hey! Miss!" The doctors chased after her but couldn't stop her.
At that moment, a tall, slender figure appeared. "You all go back. I'll handle her."
"Yes, Mr. Dalio." The doctors reluctantly backed off.
Simon stepped forward, walking towards Anna, saying, "Anna, slow down."
Hearing the voice, Anna turned and saw the suave and elegant Simon. Her eyes lit up like stars, and she ran over, grabbing his arm, pleading, "Mr. Dalio, they said my grandma's dead, and Penny's in the ICU. They're lying, right? Mr. Dalio, please, take me to see my grandma and Penny."
In Simon's eyes, she looked so fragile. He saw her helpless look, knowing he couldn't stop her with her personality. He pressed his lips together and agreed, "Okay, I'll take you, but you gotta promise to sit in a wheelchair and not strain your wounds."
"Okay." Anna gave in.
Simon immediately got someone to bring a wheelchair, personally helping Anna onto it, and pushed her to the basement morgue.
The morgue was cold, silent, and dimly lit. Inside, Anna finally saw Elodie. But it wasn't how she wanted to see her!
Elodie lay in an ice coffin, her face pale and stiff, like a lifeless statue. Even her lips were frozen shut, covered in ice.
"You've been out for seven days and nights. Your grandma should've been buried long ago. I kept her here so you could see her one last time." Simon explained, his broad hand gripping Anna's shoulder, comforting, "Anna, my condolences."
His voice was deep and steady.
Anna, sitting in the wheelchair, was stunned, not reacting at all.
Elodie was dead. Really dead.
She seemed frozen, unable to make any sound, not even able to cry, with only tears streaming down continuously.
Simon was super worried about her, so he walked around the wheelchair, squatted in front of her, and gently looked at her, softly comforting, "Anna, I know your grandma's death is a huge blow to you, but you gotta pull yourself together. You being healthy and alive is what would make your grandma happiest."
He added, "If she knew, she wouldn't want you to be despondent. Listen to me, let's bury your grandma first."
Despite his words, Anna still didn't move. She just sat there, her eyes vacant, tears streaming down. It took a full half hour before she finally spoke, "Grandma was killed by Katherine. I'll avenge her!"
Hearing that, Simon's brows furrowed, looking at her curiously and asking, "What? Why do you say that?"
Anna remembered the scene before she lost consciousness, her palms clenched, her eyes red. "Grandma said Katherine pushed her! This car accident was also set up by her. My grandma didn't finish the sentence, but she must've meant that this car accident was also arranged by Katherine!"
She added, "I will definitely investigate and find out the truth for my grandma!"
Actually, this car accident was caused by the truck driver driving under the influence, and the driver died on the spot. But for Simon, as long as Anna had the will to live, it was the best thing.
"Okay, whatever you need, I'll help you." Even if he didn't believe it, he chose to help her.
Anna had already collected her thoughts by now, or maybe the desire for revenge had calmed her down. She moved the wheelchair to her grandma's side, reached out to hold her grandma's cold hand, and stayed with her for another half hour before agreeing to let Simon bury her grandma.
There was no funeral, no one invited to mourn, just a simple cremation and burial behind the old house. It was a grave next to her grandpa's, facing the countryside, backed by the serene and pleasant mountains.
Anna remembered Elodie had said when she was young that she wanted to be buried here, to accompany her grandpa and watch the beautiful scenes.
"Grandma, rest in peace with grandpa, live happily in heaven without illness or pain. Leave the rest to me, grandma, don't worry. I will avenge you, be happy, and not let you worry."
