Chapter 480 His Last Patience
"Stop right there!" A voice cut through the air, dripping with authority.
Everyone froze, eyes wide, and turned to see a dude standing in the bright hallway.
"Mr. Vittorio," someone muttered.
Another chimed in, "Mr. Vittorio, she was messing with a cat, and we couldn't just let her get away."
Others nodded, "Yeah, that's right."
"Get out!" Giorgio shot a glance at the frazzled Anna, his vibe icy and terrifying.
The nurses shivered, faces pale as ghosts. In a heartbeat, they let go of Anna and bolted, not daring to say another word.
Anna, now free, looked at the god-like Giorgio who had swooped in outta nowhere, her heart doing somersaults. But she wasn't his girl anymore, so no way she could just dive into his comforting arms.
She quickly squashed her feelings, lowered her head, and said in a distant, polite tone, "Thanks, Mr. Vittorio."
Her tone had flipped so fast, it was like a slap in the face.
Giorgio's eyes went cold as he stared at her. "Come with me to get treated," he ordered, ice in his voice.
"I don't want to," she shot back, all indifferent.
"Refuse, and I'll punish you right here, believe it or not?" His voice was cold and aggressive.
Anna froze. She knew what he meant by punishment. Reluctantly, she followed him.
The on-duty doc saw Anna and almost blurted out, "You deserved that beating!"
But with Giorgio there, she bit her tongue and silently treated Anna's wounds, her face anything but friendly. Anna's already painful wounds hurt even more under the doc's rough treatment.
"Get out," Giorgio's angry voice cut through the air. His gaze on the doc was sharp as a knife.
"Yes," the doc stammered and quickly ran off.
Giorgio walked over, put on some gloves, and picked up the meds.
Anna realized he was gonna treat her wounds and quickly tried to refuse. "Mr. Vittorio, it's cool. I'm fine. I'll just leave now."
She turned to go.
"Try leaving," Giorgio's voice rang out, dangerous and domineering. Anna froze, not daring to move.
Giorgio pulled her over and pressed her into a seat, treating her wounds. His presence was cold and oppressive, but his hands were gentle and meticulous, making her heart flutter.
Anna felt anxious and uneasy. She had made things clear, so why was he still like this? If Katherine saw this, it wouldn't be easy to explain.
For a full ten minutes, they didn't speak. The air was thick with tension.
Once the wounds were treated, Anna stood up and said, "Thanks, ah!"
At that moment, Giorgio suddenly stepped forward, pinning her against the doctor's desk, his cold eyes locked on hers. "Katherine told you to leave, not me. I'll give you one more chance to take back what you said last night."
In other words, as long as she took it back, all would be forgiven.
Hearing that, Anna's heart trembled. She realized she had underestimated his patience. He was quite the man! But he didn't know that what stood between them was no longer Katherine, but Elodie. It was impossible for them to be together.
"Giorgio, forget about me," her voice was calm and firm.
Every time she called him by his name, it meant she was serious. Upon hearing that, Giorgio's eyes darkened. He had given her more than one chance, and she was pushing his limits.
"Anna," he called her name too. "No one has ever received such tolerance from me. Are you sure you've thought it through? If you refuse today, there will be no chance in the future."
"Mr. Vittorio! I've thought it through. Let's just be strangers from now on." Anna cut him off, shoved him away, and bolted.
Giorgio's face turned to stone. He slammed his fist on the table, knuckles reddening, veins popping.
Anna had no idea how she managed to get out of the office. She'd only recently realized how much Giorgio could spoil someone, but today, his patience and indulgence blew her mind. Like drowning in a sea of cotton candy—suffocatingly sweet. If she wasn't careful, she'd get lost in it forever.
But deep down, she felt she wasn't good enough for him.
"Anna, you okay?" Sara came up, asking, "What did Mr. Vittorio say to you? I thought he'd never show up again."
'He really won't show up again,' Anna thought. Because she had just drained his last bit of patience and tolerance.
Anna felt like her heart was being squeezed by an invisible hand, painfully tight. She took a deep breath and said, "It's nothing, Sara. Don't bring him up again."
Sara had just seen Giorgio rush to save her, showing his love. She thought there was still hope for them, but now it seemed even worse.
A few hours later, the operating room door swung open.
"Miss, congrats, your grandma's surgery was a success. We'll keep a close eye on her."
It was a success!
Elodie's surgery was a success!
This was the best news Anna had heard in days!
She excitedly said, "Thank you, doctor."
"You're welcome. Your grandma might wake up tonight, and if she recovers well, she can talk. Miss, you should go home and rest so you have the energy to be with her tomorrow."
From yesterday to today, Anna hadn't eaten or slept much, and the doctor was concerned about her health.
"Okay, thank you, doctor." Anna thanked him again.
After the doctor left, Sara grabbed her and said, "Anna, the doc's right. Let's go back, eat, and rest, so your grandma can see a healthy you tomorrow. Besides, you have a little baby in your belly."
Anna's face darkened at the mention of the child, nodding reluctantly.
In the distance, Giorgio watched them leave, his eyes deepening. As the doctor passed by him, he asked, "How did the surgery go?"
"Mr. Vittorio." The doctor suddenly saw him and immediately stopped, thinking he was concerned about Katherine, and respectfully reported, "The surgery went very smoothly. Ms. Stefanelli and the patient are both doing well."
Hearing this, Giorgio's expression softened a bit, and he turned to leave.
"Anna Stefanelli?"
Anna had just reached the old house's entrance when two police officers called out to her. She looked confused and responded, "Yes? What is it?"
The officers, all business, said, "Regarding your cat abuse case, the cat's owner has filed a report, and we're here to arrest you."
With that, a pair of cold handcuffs clicked onto Anna's wrists.
"No! Please give me one day. I'll go to the station tomorrow to accept the punishment, okay?" Anna pleaded, wanting to see Elodie. She planned that after tonight, Katherine would recover a bit, and she could go herself!
But things didn't go as planned.
"Miss, the law shows no mercy. When you abused the cat, you showed no mercy, either." The officer was stern and cold. With that, Anna was forcibly taken away.
Sara, panicked and scared, chased after them, shouting, "Anna, don't be afraid. I'll find Mr. Vittorio right away!"
Anna was indeed scared. No one knew better than her how terrifying and oppressive prison was.
She didn't want to go in!
But ask Giorgio for help? No, Giorgio had nothing to do with her anymore!
