Chapter 275 Sorry, I'm Not Katherine
The car door swung open, and a figure emerged, clad in costly attire with an exquisite watch on his wrist, the irritation on his face suggested he was on the brink of losing his temper.
To her shock, it was Colombo...
Why did she keep running into members of the Vittorio family?
Colombo himself appeared taken aback.
What was Katherine doing here? And why did her appearance seem off today?
Something didn't sit right with him.
"Katherine? What brings you here?" called out the affable voice of Viviana from inside the car.
The matriarch was here too?
Caught in a bind, Anna wavered between revealing her true identity or continuing the masquerade as Katherine.
She decided quickly, it was time to come clean and avoid further danger.
"I'm sorry, I'm not Katherine," she confessed, bowing her head, her voice barely above a whisper.
Not Katherine?
Viviana's eyebrows knitted together in surprise, then she remembered what Katherine had said about having a star-crossed twin sister.
So, this was her.
Viviana scrutinized Anna more closely. Anna wore a pair of flats and washed-out jeans that hugged her long, straight legs. A simple white sweatshirt completed the look, fresh and clean. Upward, she shared the same delicate and attractive face as Katherine.
Hmph.
Dressed in those shabby clothes, she indeed had no chance of comparing to Katherine.
With a scoff, Viviana spoke, "Did I bump into you? If you're after money, say it now. I don't want any hidden claims of 'complications' popping up later."
Her voice dripped with disdain.
Anna remained silent.
Were all rich people this arrogantly dismissive?
She responded, "Viviana since your person said I wasn't watching where I was walking, I'll accept the blame. Why don't you just tell me how much the scare cost you? I'll compensate so you can rush off to the hospital for a check-up. Let's avoid any claims of illnesses supposedly caused by this encounter. I couldn't bear the responsibility."
Her tone was a mix of humility and sarcasm, mocking Viviana's diva-like airs.
"How dare you!" Viviana's face collapsed into anger as she glared at Anna.
"I've heard you were born under a bad sign, a jinx. Seeing you now, with your doom and gloom talk, you are no good. When you get a chance, try to be more like your sister, knowledgeable, graceful, and a vision of auspiciousness.
Let's go, Colombo. Let's not let this misfortune rub off on us."
"Understood."
Colombo shot Anna an incisive glance, then hopped into the car and instructed the driver to head off.
Anna was dusted with a blast of wind and dirt before she could step back.
That old bat has been through so much, yet she's still so impolite!
Lucky for her, she was tangled up in none of the Vittorio family's business. Otherwise, dealing with Viviana's attitude would be the death of her.
This unexpected encounter only solidified Anna's determination, she needed to get away to avoid any future entanglement with the Vittorio family or its members.
She returned to her office and quickly packed up her stuff.
"Sara, we're leaving tonight, on the down low. Don't let the manager find out. I doubt the CEO will bother tracking me to my place."
"What if they sue you? What will you do?"
"That won't happen. A big company like that won't squabble with a newcomer. Go pick up Penny, I'll pack and book the tickets."
"Okay, if you say so..."
By that afternoon, Anna had booked a flight back to Vista Heights for 3 a.m.
She didn’t inform Penny to avoid any fuss, nor did she tell Charlie, fearing he might be heartbroken. She would reach out once she got back.
What she didn't realize was her itinerary had already been sent to Charlie's mobile device.
Seeing her ticket, Charlie’s brow furrowed tightly in concern as he bolted downstairs without a second word.
"Daddy! Anna's going back to Vista Heights."
His voice carried far more weight than his small frame suggested.
In the living room, Giorgio lounged on the couch, flipping through a pile of unfinished work as the evening sun draped him in a serene, golden glow through the expansive windows.
His hands paused mid-flip, his expression unreadable.
In the kitchen, Katherine was busy preparing dinner, caught the news, and walked out with a fixated look in her eyes.
"Charlie, did Anna message you about leaving?" That sly woman, mentioned her departure just to draw attention!
Charlie shook his head, "No, I had a notification set for any updates on Anna's info. It showed her flight booking for tonight at three."
Not a word from her directly?
Katherine's face stiffened momentarily before she softened her tone.
"Honey, Anna grew up in Vista Heights. She has family, friends, and a job there. It's only natural she'd want to return. Here in Crownhaven, she's a stranger, it's understandably uncomfortable for her."
"That's not it! Anna was planning on staying for work. I don't know why she'd leave now. Daddy, can you call her?"
The little guy looked up at Giorgio with pleading eyes.
Anna's grip tightened in her palm.
This damn kid, why was he so fond of Anna?
What concerned her more was whether Giorgio would call to stop Anna, and what was his stance on her leaving.
Under both gazes, Giorgio remained cool and detached, his emotions as obscured as if shrouded in a mist, leaving his true feelings hidden.
No one could guess what he was thinking or predict his next move.
He seemed unapproachable, distant as if Anna's departure meant nothing to him.
Katherine's anxiety bubbled within her, hoping the two would never reconnect. She pursed her lips.
"I overheard that her first love is in Vista Heights, that might be why she's headed back."
Just a random excuse.
As the words hung in the air, Little Tony walked in, "Mr. Vittorio, got a call from the head honcho just now..."
The head honcho, of course, referred to DuoNyx Entertainment.
Before he could continue, knowing it wasn't appropriate to discuss this further in front of Katherine, Giorgio got up with indifferently "To the study."
"Right away, Mr. Vittorio." Little Tony followed Giorgio upstairs.
Katherine watched their retreating figures, oblivious to the hidden complexities in their midst, thinking a simple work call had shifted Giorgio's attention away from Anna.
Her lips curled in a slight, relieved smile as she glanced at Charlie.
"Come on, sweetie, you can call your aunt on the phone whenever you like, and we'll visit her in Vista Heights when we have some time. Don't be so gloomy and go and do your homework, okay?"
Her tone was gentle.
Charlie cast her a glance, silent, turned around, and with a proud little strut, made a beeline for the stairs.
A stark contrast to the excitement that had him barreling down the stairs earlier when faced with Anna's departure.
Katherine, seething, clenched her fists.
No matter. Once Anna was gone, what trouble could one child stir up?
Upstairs, in the study.
The decor was a minimalist black, understated yet luxurious, and the air suffused with the scent of books.
The man stood by the window, tall and formidable, a born leader's aura radiating from his presence.
He asked, "What's the phone call about?"
Little Tony, with due respect, closed the door and reported.
"Our contact found out why Miss Stefanelli is leaving. They said it's because of a first love."
First love?
The same as what Katherine said?
The man's handsome brow arched.
