Chapter 470 Trying to Please My Elders?

Anna had a vague feeling that Giorgio had risked his life to save Giuseppe for her, then returned from Corystania to Crownhaven to stay with her, even giving her a place to live.

As long as it didn't involve making him angry, he was incredibly doting.

No girl could resist such unrestrained affection.

Anna felt a ripple in her heart and nodded nervously. "Okay."

She agreed.

But Wendy's issue remained unresolved.

"Don't overthink it. Joe is kind and talkative, with no other intentions," Giorgio gently comforted Anna after dinner as he drove her home.

He casually explained why he brought her along.

"It's his birthday today. His only request was to see you, and I couldn't refuse."

She thought, 'So that's how it was!'

Hearing that, she became more curious about what he had said to Joe to make Joe so eager to see her.

Her face showed a bit of nervousness and surprise.

"His birthday? You didn't tell me." She hadn't prepared a gift or even a birthday greeting, which made her feel quite embarrassed.

Giorgio looked at her gently and smiled. "You're not even married into the family yet, and you're already trying to please my elders."

She felt a bit helpless, as if everything she said got twisted by him.

Anna felt awkward and frustrated.

At that moment, Giorgio's phone, placed in the car, rang.

It was Charlie calling. He answered on speakerphone.

As soon as the call connected, Charlie's clear voice came through. "Dad, Penny and I are staying at the old house tonight. You and Auntie can enjoy some alone time!"

Then, there was Penny's.

"We didn't hear anything last night from the next room. You must have been too embarrassed to do anything with Mom because we were there. Good luck tonight!"

Then, the call ended.

Anna hadn't expected they were eavesdropping last night.

Compared to her shyness, Giorgio's face was pensive.

"Letting the kids live independently is good. What do you think?"

Anna knew exactly what he meant, and her palms tightened nervously. Then, thinking about Wendy's situation, she really needed some quiet time alone.

"Mr. Vittorio, I'm not feeling too well tonight. Maybe you should return to the old mansion and spend some quality time with Viviana? Viviana's health is delicate, and she has little time left. During her lifetime, we, as her descendants, should show her the utmost respect and care. Otherwise, we'll regret it when we wish to honor and cherish our loved ones, but they're no longer with us; it's the greatest regret in the world."

Her tone was earnest yet somber.

She felt remorseful because there were many things she hadn't done for Wendy.

She never bought Wendy a nice outfit, never treated her to a seafood feast, and never showed her the grandeur of the city.

Now, even though she had the money, Wendy couldn't enjoy these things.

A tear slipped from the corner of her eye.

Giorgio narrowed his eyes, parking the car. "Anna, what's wrong? You're not usually so sad."

Anna realized she was showing her emotions, quickly wiping away her tears. She didn't want him to worry, so she said:

"It's nothing. I was just watching a family drama at home today, and it reminded me of my grandmother. Four years ago, at this time, my grandmother fell down the mountain and became a semi-vegetable. Since then, I haven't been able to see her, and it's been weighing on my heart."

This excuse was a reasonable explanation.

However, Giorgio wouldn't believe it.

He didn't expose her, gently wiping away her tears, comforting her. "Don't overthink; everything will be fine. Rest well tonight, I'll send you back."

Then, after ensuring Anna was safely back home, he returned to the old mansion, immediately sending a message to Tony on his phone: [Investigate what happened to Anna today and report back quickly.]

Receiving the call, Tony felt troubled, thinking, 'Can't I just unwind for a night?'

Though he dared not defy the order, he quickly conducted the investigation.

Soon, he had the results. "Mr. Vittorio, Mrs. Stefanelli visited the hospital today to see her grandmother, who has been bedridden for some time. The doctor proposed a treatment plan, likely involving a kidney or bone marrow transplant. Afterward, Mrs. Stefanelli contacted Mr. Dalio, who flew in from Vista Heights specifically to discuss saving Wendy. Mrs. Stefanelli then returned home. Additionally, Mrs. Stefanelli was at the hospital earlier."

Giorgio furrowed his brows.

He thought, 'With such a serious matter at hand, she didn't think to tell me but went to Simon instead?'

Suppressing his anger, he asked, "What was Katherine doing there? Could she have had a hand in this?"

Tony respectfully reported, "Mr. Vittorio, Mrs. Stefanelli..."

"Change how you address her," Giorgio cut him off coldly.

Tony realized his mistake, thinking, 'Giorgio has never liked being addressed this way, and with Mrs. Stefanelli in the picture, he is even more averse.'

Quickly correcting himself, Tony said, "Sorry, Mr. Vittorio, I'll be more mindful in the future! Miss Katherine didn't do anything at the hospital. For years, she's been the one covering Wendy's medical expenses. She's also the one who used her connections with the First Lady to get Wendy into that hospital. The latest test results showed that both Katherine and Mrs. Stefanelli have the right match, but Mrs. Stefanelli's health has deteriorated to the point where she can no longer donate. So right now, Katherine is the only match. If the surgery isn't performed within seven days, Wendy will die. Mrs. Stefanelli is undoubtedly worried sick about this."

Tony's long explanation finally provided a plausible reason for Anna's strange behavior.

Giorgio's eyes were dark as he rubbed his forehead. "Take care of the child."

After ending the call, he dialed Katherine's number. "Where are you? We need to meet."

At Giorgio's private villa, Katherine arrived dressed in a silk nightgown, her hair loosely cascading over her shoulders. Her pale skin seemed to glow under the lights.

Giorgio's gaze, cold and unwavering, remained fixed on her as he elegantly settled into the sofa. He got straight to the point:

"What will it take for you to save Anna's grandmother?"

He was blunt and harsh. Summoning her in the middle of the night was clearly about getting her to donate an organ.

Katherine smiled as she sat down next to him. "Giorgio, you're so concerned about Anna's grandmother. Can't you show a bit of concern for me as well? After all, I am the mother of your son and your rightful wife."

"Remove your hand," Giorgio snapped, turning his gaze to her with evident disgust. "I've overlooked what you've done before because of these connections. Otherwise, you wouldn't be sitting here so comfortably. Now, just tell me what you want."

His tone was brisk and to the point.

He clearly had no interest in small talk. Often, he could barely stand to see her wearing Anna's face while doing things he detested. He would have preferred to see it destroyed.

Katherine felt the chill in the air, her face turning pale. She quickly composed herself, sitting up straight.

"Alright, let's discuss the terms. The only condition for me to save Wendy is that you do not divorce me after Anna's grandmother passes away. Furthermore, you must continue to live with me as a normal husband, though you can still stay with Anna."
