Chapter 453 Who's Your Girlfriend?
To Giorgio's surprise, it wasn't Anna at the door, but Katherine, holding a cake and smiling gently.
"Giorgio, you left last night without having your birthday cake. Grandma found out and insisted I bring another one. She said you must make a wish, and her wish is for us to have another child."
Giorgio's face turned grim.
"Don't use Grandma as an excuse. I haven't even dealt with the aftermath of what you did yesterday. Get out."
Even when he disliked her, he was usually at least polite to her. This time, he decided to stop playing nice.
Katherine clenched her fist.
"I know buying that medicine made you angry, and I know we can't divorce right away, which frustrates you. But Giorgio, I just wanted to see if you really despise me that much. Divorce isn't just up to us."
Giorgio could have discussed the divorce with Katherine the next morning, but Viviana found out and ordered him back, saying they could only divorce after she died.
Looking at Katherine's innocent face, Giorgio sneered.
"Don't think I don't know your tricks. You're the one who reports everything to Grandma. You should be grateful for Charlie. Without him, you'd be forgotten."
He was truly furious.
Katherine felt as though she was dead to him. She forced herself to speak. "I'm doing this for your own good. Can you be sure that Anna truly loves you? Rushing into a divorce for her might not be worth it."
Giorgio replied, "That's none of your business. Get out! Don't make me say it again."
Katherine's face froze. After a moment, she said, "If you don't believe me, ask Anna where she is right now. She left to see Giuseppe. Giorgio, while Grandma is still alive, I'll prove to you that I'm the one who truly loves you."
She put the cake down and left.
Giorgio's face remained impassive. Though he wouldn't let Katherine's words affect his thoughts about Anna, he was still concerned about her whereabouts.
He called her but couldn't get through. He then used the house phone and the call finally connected.
"Anna, where are you?" he asked, trying to suppress his emotions.
Anna nervously explained, "I thought you needed rest, so I left for a bit. Then I got a call from Mr. Vittorio saying he wasn't feeling well, so I had to come over."
She didn't mention Giuseppe's condition. So, she did go to Giuseppe's place.
Giorgio felt irritated and angry, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I asked you to stay with me, even told you my real birthday, and at a single word from him, you rushed over. Anna, have you forgotten who your boyfriend is now?"
He was furious. After saying that, he hung up.
Anna, just arriving at the project department's entrance, was baffled. She had left because she felt awkward and went to Giuseppe's place because he was ill. She couldn't ignore that.
He was so irrationally angry.
Anna thought for a moment and decided to call him back.
No one answered.
"Ms. Stefanelli, you're finally here! Mr. Vittorio's condition is really bad, please hurry!" Elena rushed over, grabbing her.
Anna saw the wounds on his hands and, momentarily forgetting about Giorgio, asked in surprise, "What happened? He was fine when I left. His condition was stable."
Elena looked troubled. "Twenty minutes ago, Katherine called Mr. Vittorio and sent photos of you leaving Giorgio's villa. She said you went to Corystania to meet him and that you two were already dating."
Such news had clearly dealt a huge blow to Giuseppe! Even with no reciprocated feelings, being cheated on was devastating. To make matters worse, Giuseppe always saw Giorgio as a competitor.
Anna's face turned pale. She understood how Giuseppe must be feeling. He must be furious. Although she hated him, she wanted to resolve everything smoothly. This situation was something she didn't want to see.
'Katherine, what are you planning?' she thought.
"Where is Mr. Vittorio? Take me to him. And the doctor? Have you called the doctor?"
"Yes, but it'll take a while for himto arrive."
They hurried to the temporary housing area. As soon as she entered, Anna saw the mess on the floor, broken bottles, and the angry man sitting by the bed. His eyes were bloodshot and his were fists clenched. As soon as he saw Anna, he rushed over and grabbed her neck.
"Just came back from Giorgio's place, eh? No wonder you've been so obedient lately. You've been trying to make me lower my guard so you could see Giorgio behind my back! Anna, is deceiving me over and over again fun for you?"
He was livid. His large hands squeezed Anna's neck, causing intense pain and making it hard for her to breathe. Anna struggled to get fresh air. Giuseppe was on the verge of collapse, with no rationality left. She couldn't break free. If Elena hadn't intervened, she might have been strangled to death!
"Ms. Stefanelli, quickly explain things to Mr. Vittorio, tell him it's not true," Elena was anxious and worried. She feared Giuseppe's condition would worsen, that someone might hear the commotion, and even worse, that it might result in a fatality. In his current state, Giuseppe might really kill Anna.
Anna gasped for air, rubbing her injured neck, and looked at Giuseppe. Surprisingly, she didn't comply with Elena's request. She said, boldly, "Yes, I am dating Mr. Vittorio. I like him, and you knew that from the beginning. Keeping me by your side was just part of your fantasy."
Hearing this, Giuseppe's anger peaked. With a loud crash, he overturned the table and walked towards Anna, grabbing her neck again.
"You like him? My fantasy? Do you think I'm inferior to him? Is staying with me that unbearable? Anna, I don't ask for much. All I want is for you to stay with me through this last period and not make me angry. Can't you even endure that? Are you so impatient? In the end, you think I deserve to be schemed against by you repeatedly, right? You never genuinely wanted to help me!"
His words were full of anger. His hand on her neck kept tightening. Anna felt like she was about to die.
