Chapter 410 The Child Has Already Been Aborted

The voice asking the question was shaky and shocked.

He really wanted to abort the baby?

Watching the light dim in Anna's eyes, Giorgio hesitated to disclose her inability to conceive.

Cradling her hand, he offered reassurance in a soft tone. "Anna, holding onto this pregnancy isn't the right move. It's risky for your well-being, your image, and our circumstances. So, let's be practical about this, okay? Don't dwell on it."

As she gazed at his composed facade, treating the situation like a business deal, evaluating the costs and benefits, a cold realization settled in Anna's chest.

Her voice quivered as she pressed on, "Not now? Then when, Giorgio?"

A faint twitch played on Giorgio's lips. She bore a condition that rendered bearing children impossible. Despite his desire for a family with her, he couldn't jeopardize her life.

"Anna, you have Penny, and I have Charlie. We don't need to have another child."

"Stop!" Anna's heart clenched at his words.

The realization hit her hard— their future would never include their own children, with Giorgio unwilling to have her carry his offspring. It dawned on her that his feelings were surface-level, mere affection rather than the profound love she yearned for. Her heart throbbed with pain.

"Giorgio, I need some time alone." Her voice, seemingly steady, teetered on the brink of collapse.

Giorgio empathized with her turmoil. The prospect of losing their child left him just as unsettled. He believed in her resilience and composure.

"Take your time, think it through. I'll be home by five to stand by you."

With those words, he turned and departed.

The echo of his fading footsteps reverberated like a crushing blow to Anna's heart, shattering it into irreparable fragments.

Despite the fabricated news about the child, his callousness cut deep, catching her off guard. The fact that he could resume work and leave her stranded was a blow she hadn't anticipated.

She had known his love was a facade, his intentions insincere. Yet, the sting of his indifference lingered, a sharp ache in her chest.

Anna wandered out of Emerald Manor, her footsteps meandering towards Maple Valley Estates. Elena, ever perceptive, approached her.

"How did it go? Did you hear back from Mr. Vittorio?"

She had received her answer, and with it, a numbness settled in her heart.

It was her own doing; she shouldn't have held onto any hopes to begin with.

No expectations meant no disappointment.

No affection meant no heartache.

Feelings only led to anguish.

It was a bitter realization, but a necessary one. She had seen through the charade before diving in further, still able to retreat before it was too late.

Taking a steadying breath, Anna spoke, "I've lost. I'll accept it. Forge a fake surgical record."

Elena's eyes deepened. "Okay."

Giorgio's mood at the company was palpably grim that day.

"Cancel all my meetings and keep everyone out," he ordered, his tone heavy and serious, leaving Tony taken aback.

Today's agenda held significant importance, indicating trouble ahead.

Yet, sensing the gravity of the situation, Tony swiftly acknowledged, "Yes," before exiting the room, leaving behind a stunned silence.

Rubbing his temples wearily, Giorgio settled at his desk, delving into research on bleeding disorders. The reality struck him as he read about the potential fatal outcomes of such conditions, realizing that neither power nor wealth could shield his loved ones from harm.

For the first time in thirty years, a sense of helplessness enveloped him, driving him to chain-smoke through a pack of twenty cigarettes within hours, his throat raw from the relentless habit.

By four in the afternoon, Giorgio, seeking solace in routine, freshened up and changed into a new suit before heading home, expecting to find Anna at Emerald Manor resting, as he had instructed.

To his surprise, she was nowhere to be found. Panicked at the thought of her possibly leaving with the baby, he quickly dialed her number, his husky voice tinged with urgency and concern.

"Anna? Where are you?"

Anna's heart ached even more as his words sunk in, a bitter realization settling deep within her. Despite the gestures that seemed to imply care, it was all just a facade, an illusion that played tricks on her mind, convincing her she could venture into something more with him. But, like a cruel joke, it only brought her more pain, more heartbreak.

Stifling her emotions, she remained silent, adding weight to Giorgio's growing concerns. His voice, though gentle, carried the weight of truths too harsh for the moment. "Anna, trust me. Don't dwell too much. Life's unpredictable. It can slip away at any moment, and all we can do is embrace it, opening our hearts despite the uncertainties," he softly urged.

Just like the death of that girl in the past.

He continued, "Be good, tell me where you are. Stay put, and I'll come to find you right away."

Giorgio's voice was soft and gentle.

But to Anna, it sounded cold and heartbreaking.

Could he really say those deep truths at a time like this? It felt like he was an outsider, not the father of her child. Men could be stone cold, Anna realized. Once they decided they were done with something, they could be ruthless.

Thinking about how he had treated his secretary, discarding her like yesterday's trash and even passing her off to Giuseppe, made Anna see the reality of the man she once loved. She shook her head at her own foolishness.

Gathering her strength, Anna replied, "I'm okay. Had the procedure done. Taking it easy now."

Giorgio was taken aback. Aborted? It was what he wanted, yes, but so soon? This unexpected turn left him feeling oddly unsettled.

Her decisiveness in ending their child's life made him wonder if she truly couldn't stand him. However, he pushed these thoughts away. All that mattered was her well-being.

"Which hospital? What's your room number?" he inquired, concerned.

Anna, tired and wanting some peace, revealed, "I'm back at Maple Valley Estates. Doctor said I need rest. Take care of Viviana. We'll talk later."

With a heavy heart, he hung up. This wasn't like her. Why go through this alone? Something felt off.

For the first time, he couldn't grasp her actions.

Hadn't she been open about the pregnancy? Why had she explained things to him this morning and told him she was pregnant?

If she liked him, why was her attitude now so difficult to understand now?

But no matter what, he couldn't deny that she got pregnant and had surgery because of him.

Calling Tony, Giorgio requested, "Get some nutrient-rich grub for women, quietly drop it off at Emerald Manor."

Perplexed, Tony wondered what was going on. But before he could ask, the call ended abruptly. He grabbed recipes and headed to the store, only to be met with another surprise when he reached Emerald Manor.
