Chapter 112 The Battle Between Two Men
"Grandma, look, this is the baby's 4D ultrasound. I just had it done a few days ago. Isn't it adorable?" Lauren found the report and handed it to Grandma Robinson.
Grandma Robinson couldn't help but smile as she looked at the baby's little face.
"The baby is so adorable, truly wonderful. Look at those chubby cheeks, it looks just like Quentin when he was a baby," Grandma Robinson said.
"The child isn't born yet, and the features might not be clear. But the doctor said it's a healthy baby," Lauren said with relief. She didn't wish for the child to be rich and powerful in the future, only for him to be safe and healthy.
Grandma Robinson naturally understood Lauren's thoughts. "Don't worry. The child will grow up healthy and safe."
The two women exchanged smiles and continued discussing the baby.
As Lauren and Grandma Robinson chatted and laughed, Ethan couldn't get a word in edgewise in the hospital room. He could only go out to fetch some hot water.
Suddenly, Ethan received a call from an unknown number.
"Ethan," the voice was cold, and Ethan knew who it was without guessing.
"Quentin, what do you want?" Ethan asked impatiently.
"Let's talk," Quentin said bluntly. He had long wanted to have a proper conversation with Ethan.
"Alright, see you at the tearooms in thirty minutes." Ethan hung up the phone and fell into deep thought. There were things he had long wanted to say to Quentin but never had the chance.
Ethan returned to the hospital room with a smile on his face. "Lauren, there's something at the company I need to handle. I'll come back tonight."
Lauren didn't notice anything odd. "Alright, go ahead."
Grandma Robinson glanced at Ethan but said nothing, watching him leave the room.
The tearooms welcomed two peculiar guests; one was a man with a cold expression, and the other wore a smile on his face.
"Come on, state your purpose," Ethan said with a genial smile. He was curious to hear why Quentin had asked to meet him.
Quentin's sharp eyes stared directly at Ethan. "Are you serious about Lauren?"
Ethan's smile widened even further. "Of course, I've loved her longer and more deeply than you. I'll admit, I was surprised when you saved her last time, but both you and she are in the past now. Can you find it in yourself to let her go?" Ethan dropped his playful smile and spoke in a serious tone.
"Let her go? I could perhaps do it before, but not now. Ethan, you know very well that she still loves me. You can't get into her heart at all," Quentin said, refusing to back down. He never bowed to anyone.
Ethan was unwilling to accept Quentin's words. "Quentin, have you forgotten that you witness my successful proposal? You two are divorced now. What leverage do you have to demand she continue loving you?"
Quentin admitted that Ethan made sense, but he didn't want to be reasonable at this moment.
"You may be by Lauren's side now, but you can't get to her heart. Are you really willing to spend your life with her? Ethan, I overestimated you." Quentin sneered as if he had seen through the issues between Lauren and Ethan.
Ethan laughed in anger. "Quentin, I must say you are indeed good at business. Your calculations and plannings are impressive. You sent a persuader to Lauren's side, and now you're trying to convince me. Do you really think I would give up on Lauren just because of a few words from you? You don't understand the depth of my feelings for her, but let me remind you, you are now just a stranger in Lauren's life. So, please, stop disturbing her."
Quentin retorted, "Did you just ask me not to disturb her? Who are you to her? Why should I listen to you? Is it because you say so? Let me tell you, Lauren will never escape from me in this lifetime. I won't let her go."
Faced with Quentin's shameless words, Ethan found himself at a loss.
"Don't you find your actions despicable?" Ethan squinted his eyes, looking at Quentin with disdain.
Quentin, however, appeared relaxed. "All I know is that the winner takes all. Ethan, let's have a competition to see who the love of Lauren's life really is in her heart."
"Fine, I will make you regret it. Losing Lauren will be the biggest regret of your life!" Ethan said earnestly.
Back in the hospital, Lauren was sitting reading a book on the bed.
"Ethan, you're back. Is everything at the company sorted out?" Seeing Ethan's exhausted look, Lauren assumed that it was due to his work.
Ethan gave a weary smile. "It's alright."
"Ethan, if you're tired, you should go home and take some rest. I can manage on my own here," Lauren said with a smile.
But Ethan didn't respond. He walked over slowly, looking lost, and sat on the bed next to Lauren.
He spoke seriously, "Lauren, would you ever reconcile with Quentin?"
The sudden question caught Lauren off guard. "Ethan, why are you asking this all of a sudden?"
Ethan's expression remained serious. "I just want to know if you still have feelings for Quentin. Do you divorce him in a fit of rage? Do you regret it now? Would you go back to him?"
Lauren lowered her head, and after a moment, she looked up again, her pale face showing a determined expression.
"No, Ethan, you misunderstand. My divorce from him isn't just because of Wendy. The issues between us are too complex to explain in a few words. I can only say that I loved him, but he doesn't retort the same feeling to me. I'm tired of living such a tiring life anymore."
Ethan's heart skipped a beat; Lauren's words indicated that she still had feelings for Quentin.
If I say Quentin still loves her, would she fly into his arms regardless of everything?' Ethan thought to himself, and it made Ethan's heart race with anxiety.
No, I can't give up without even trying. Lauren, forgive my selfishness. I really want to try again. I hope you can see that I am the one who loves you the most and is most suitable for you.' Ethan silently vowed.
Ethan smiled warmly. "That's good to hear. I thought Quentin might have enlisted Grandma Robinson to sway you today, but I see I was mistaken. I should have known you're always true to your word. It's my own doubts that cloud my judgment."
Lauren returned a hesitant smile. It wasn't entirely true that she hadn't been affected. Learning from Grandma Robinson that Quentin had waited outside all night to convince her tugged at her heart.
The path ahead seemed unclear to Lauren.
