Chapter 159 Plans for the Celebration Day
Lauren found that she and Ethan were becoming more compatible, though Ethan always appeared silly.
"I haven't figured out what to do for the celebration day yet. Maybe we won't celebrate. After all, Matthew is still young. He doesn't understand anything," Lauren said bitterly, not knowing how to celebrate without Quentin.
Ethan was not happy to hear this. "No way, the celebration day marks the baby's first month of life. We can't just brush it off. How about inviting your parents and some of my friends to Matthew's one-month celebration? We'll have a lively celebration for Matthew, okay?" he suggested.
Lauren felt a bit troubled by Ethan's suggestion. She said hesitantly, "Ethan, thank you for caring so much about Matthew. But I haven't told my parents about my situation yet, and I don't want them to know."
Ethan was stunned. He sincerely advised, "But Lauren, Matthew is a month old. Although you don't want them to know, they will find out eventually. You must be honest or live a difficult life."
Lauren bitterly explained, "You know how my dad is. If I tell them about Quentin and me, he'll definitely get angry and oppose me. Matthew is still young, and I don't want to have any conflicts with my family right now. So don't worry, I'll find an excuse to keep them from coming that day, hoping to keep it hidden a bit longer."
Lauren sighed, feeling overwhelmed by her chaotic situation.
Since Lauren said so, Ethan naturally supported her.
"Alright, if you don't have any other plans, I'll just invite my friends over on Matthew's celebration day. We'll celebrate without disturbing you and Matthew," Ethan said considerately.
Lauren could only look at him gratefully. He must be an angel sent by God to save her. Otherwise, how could she be so lucky to have such a good friend like Ethan?
Before Matthew's one-month celebration, Lauren took the baby to visit the Walker family. She wanted to warn them against attending Matthew's celebration at the Robinson family.
Kimberly was very happy to see Lauren and Matthew. She excitedly greeted, "Lauren, why are you here? You haven't fully recovered. Why aren't you resting at home?"
Lauren smiled bitterly. The period after giving birth, she had been anything but peaceful. After making all the mistakes she shouldn't have, recovering her health didn't mean much to her.
"Mom, I'm here about Matthew's celebration day," Lauren said, pacing the room with Matthew in her arms to lull him to sleep.
"Yes, it will be Matthew's one-month celebration in three days. Don't worry, I've already discussed it with your dad, and we've prepared the gifts. We will not allow you to be humiliated in the presence of the Robinson family." Kimberly said happily. It was rare for Ulysses to be so cooperative and not oppose her suggestion.
Lauren's demeanor slightly altered as she felt hesitant to disrupt Kimberly's happiness.
"Mom, I'm really sorry, but we plan to go back to the Robinson family's ancestral home that day. It's their family tradition so that we won't be having the celebration," Lauren lied.
"What? No celebration? How could the Robinson family have such a strange rule? I've never heard of it," Kimberly said, puzzled but still trusting Lauren.
"Yes, I only found out recently. So please tell Dad that you won't come that day," Lauren said.
"Alright, you're part of the Robinson family now, so you have to respect their rules. Don't worry about us, and I'll explain it to your dad. He won't have a problem with it," Kimberly said understandingly, which made Lauren feel even more guilty.
Although Lauren knew the truth would come out eventually, she genuinely lacked the courage to provide Kimberly with a comprehensive explanation at this time.
"By the way, how are things with you and Quentin? You didn't fight after he came back, did you?" Kimberly asked.
Kimberly had always been worried about it, but since Lauren was weak, she didn't want to disturb her while she was recovering with the Robinson family, so she held back.
Lauren smiled lightly. She carefully denied, "No, we're still the same as before. Mom, don't worry, and I'll live well."
Looking at Matthew in her arms, Lauren felt a pang of bitterness. Her life was truly pathetic. She even had to hide the truth from her mother. She was really tired of living like this.
Kimberly didn't notice anything unusual, immersed in the joy of Matthew's birth, so she naturally didn't think that Lauren and Quentin had already divorced.
Lauren stayed at the Walker family until late, feeling guilty, while Kimberly didn't notice Quentin not coming to pick her up. After all, Quentin was the president of a big company and must be very busy.
Lauren returned to Ethan's villa, feeling very heavy-hearted. She deeply regretted hiding her divorce from Kimberly in the first place.
One lie led to more lies to cover it up. As Ethan had said, her life was a mess.
Just when Lauren thought Matthew's celebration day would pass quietly, George suddenly showed up.
George looked at Lauren, hesitant to speak, but still maintained a businesslike attitude as he stated his purpose.
"Mrs. Robinson, Grandma Robinson asked me to invite you to the ancestral home," George said expressionlessly.
Lauren had always been concerned about Jessica's health, so George's visit was a chance to ask about her condition.
"George, how is Grandma doing lately?" Lauren asked.
George seemed to hold a grudge against Lauren. He coldly replied, "You'll know how Grandma Robinson is when you see her at the ancestral home."
Lauren lowered her head. She awkwardly inquired, "Is Grandma the only one at the ancestral home?"
She was worried that Quentin might be there too. To avoid awkwardness, she didn't want to run into him.
George's attitude turned even colder. He said aloofly, " Mr. Robinson visits Grandma Robinson every day."
Lauren hesitantly replied, "George, I think I'll go back after a while."
George understood the implication in Lauren's words and couldn't hold back anymore.
"Mrs. Robinson, Grandma Robinson has always been so good to you. She's now sick because of you and Mr. Robinson, and she's still bedridden. She yearns for you and Matthew, yet you are declining to accompany her. I shouldn't say this, but I really can't understand how you can be so heartless," George said.
"Is Grandma sick?" she inquired, shocked. Lauren's head felt like it was exploding.
Lauren should have known that Jessica would have a hard time accepting her leaving with Matthew.
The incident happened so suddenly that she didn't have time to explain it to Jessica before leaving the Robinson family Villa in a fit of anger.
Now, thinking back, Jessica must have been worried, but she didn't expect the consequences to be so serious.
