Chapter 299 Seeking Help from Quentin

Ulysses looked at Lauren with those pleading eyes. "Lauren, you gotta help me. You're my only daughter!"

Lauren hesitated; she wasn't sure if she could convince Quentin to help out again.

Thinking Lauren was saying no, Ulysses played his last card. "If you don't help, I'm dead! Better than getting caught and chopped up by the mafia!"

He made a dramatic move towards the wall. Lauren knew he was bluffing, but she still stopped him. "Dad, I'll ask him for help. Just give me some time."

"No, I can't wait that long. They said if I don't bring Quentin by tomorrow, they'll cut off one of my fingers!" Ulysses said, panic in his voice.

Lauren sighed. Everything was happening so fast, and she hadn't even figured out how to approach Quentin, let alone meet him.

Just then, Matthew looked up at Lauren and asked, "Mommy, are you going to see Daddy? Can I come too? I haven't seen him in forever."

Before Lauren could answer, Ulysses jumped in, "Yes, of course! Lauren, take the kid to see Quentin. Even if he doesn't care about you, he'll care about his son."

Ulysses's words were calculated. Kimberly shot him a look of disdain but said nothing.

Lauren kept her face blank, hiding her thoughts.

Kimberly suggested, "Maybe we should talk to Ethan before making any decisions?"

Ulysses shot that down immediately, "He can't help! Lauren, you need to go now. The sooner this is sorted, the safer I am!"

Lauren and Kimberly knew Ulysses was a coward, but his selfishness was a real letdown. To him, family was just a survival tool.

Lauren stayed silent for a long time, making Ulysses even more anxious. He urged, "Lauren, go find Quentin now!"

Lauren finally looked up and said, "I can't promise he'll help, but I'll do my best."

Only then did Ulysses relax a bit. He pushed Lauren and Matthew out of the lounge and hid inside, scared someone would come for him.

Feeling troubled, Lauren took Matthew into a taxi, told the driver where to go, and sat back. She was bringing Matthew to see Quentin, not just to increase her chances but because she knew Quentin missed him.

Lauren couldn't understand why she kept thinking about Quentin's feelings. She knew she shouldn't, but she couldn't help it. She mocked herself inwardly, 'I must be losing it.'

Seeing Lauren upset, Matthew asked cautiously, "Mommy, are you sad? Did that man today hurt you?"

Lauren shook her head. "Matthew, he's not a stranger. You should call him Grandpa."

"Grandpa? He's your dad, but why is he so mean to you and Grandma?" Matthew was confused.

Lauren didn't know how to answer. She held his hand tightly, feeling even more anxious. She knew she shouldn't drag Matthew into adult problems, but she couldn't help it.

The car pulled up to Robinson Conglomerate, and Lauren felt a mix of emotions. She had sworn to stay away from this place, but life had other plans.

Since there was no avoiding it, Lauren decided to face it head-on. She took a deep breath and walked in with Matthew.

Lauren's name was practically a curse word at Robinson Conglomerate. When the receptionist heard it, she was stunned and quickly called Felix.

Felix, not wanting to make any decisions on his own, reported it to Quentin.

Quentin's face darkened when he heard the news, but he couldn't hide a flicker of excitement. He was puzzled by Lauren's visit but also secretly thrilled.

He frowned and told Felix to bring Lauren to his office. Quentin kept a cold exterior, but inside, he was buzzing.

The office door opened, and Matthew darted in like a little bird, hugging Quentin's leg.

"Daddy, I missed you so much. Did you miss me?" Matthew nuzzled Quentin like a kitten.

Quentin's stern expression softened, and he gave a gentle nod. Matthew, happy with the simple response, hugged Quentin even tighter.

Lauren watched with a smile as Matthew and Quentin interacted. Once they were done, she walked over and stood in front of the desk.

Quentin's frown returned, and he stayed silent, acting like Lauren wasn't even there.

Matthew, sitting on Quentin's lap, looked up at Lauren. "Mommy, didn't you have something important to tell Daddy?"

Important? Quentin's interest was piqued, and he felt a flicker of hope. He pinched his palm to keep himself grounded.

Lauren cleared her throat and started, "Sorry to drop in like this."

Quentin sneered, "If you're here just to be polite, don't waste my time."

His harsh words stung, but Lauren forced a smile. "I know you're busy, but I need a favor." It was tough to say, but she had no other options.

"What is it?" Quentin raised an eyebrow, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Did I do something in the past that made you think I'm a helpful guy?"

Lauren's face went pale. She knew asking for help out of the blue was a long shot.

But Ulysses's problem could only be solved by Quentin; otherwise, his life was at risk. Lauren didn't know what kind of connection the mafia had with Quentin, but she had to save her dad. "Quentin, please help me, okay?"

Lauren's voice was filled with desperation Quentin had never heard before. His heart skipped a beat, and his mind raced. What kind of trouble was Lauren in that she couldn't handle on her own?
