Chapter 118 The Sweet Kiss
Wendy's situation progressed smoothly. After Quentin submitted evidence of her kidnapping Lauren to the police, Wendy was about to face trial in court.
Although Lauren was kind-hearted, she had no sympathy left for Wendy after being hurt by her again.
Officer Petrov came one last time to inform them that Wendy was likely to be sentenced to fifteen years in prison. Both Lauren and Quentin remained indifferent.
Quentin sensed that Lauren had indeed grown. "Lauren, I like your indifference at this moment," he said.
Lauren rolled her eyes at Quentin. "Quentin, what do you mean by that? Are you feeling sorry for Wendy?"
Even though Quentin had always been emotionally clueless, he could hear the danger in Lauren's tone this time.
"Am I feeling sorry? Yes, I feel sorry for her, wanting to pull some strings to get her a few more years in prison," Quentin said calmly.
Lauren was unsettled. "Really? Are you really going to pull some strings to get her a longer sentence?"
"Yes," Quentin said.
"Quentin, how could you? After all, you two worked together before. What you're doing is abusing your power for personal revenge," Lauren chattered on.
Quentin thought Lauren was living too stressfully, worrying about everything.
Using his uninjured right hand, Quentin pulled Lauren close. Before she could react, his cool lips covered hers.
Lauren's eyes widened as she looked at the handsome face in front of her. When had Quentin moved?
"Close your eyes. Don't you even know how to kiss?" Quentin said in a low voice, releasing her lips.
"Who says I don't..." Before Lauren could finish, Quentin's agile tongue slipped into her mouth.
It was then that Lauren realized Quentin had said that just to entangle her tongue.
Lauren had never thought kissing could be so wonderful. Although she and Quentin had been married for two years, they had only had two instances of intimate contact and never such a sweet kiss.
Lauren was intoxicated, lost in Quentin's tenderness.
She didn't know how much time had passed when a knock on the door brought her back to reality. Her body immediately stiffened. She wanted to get up but was afraid of touching Quentin's wound, so she didn't know what to do.
Quentin sensed that Lauren in his arms wanted to escape. He didn't care who was knocking or what they wanted.
Even if it were something huge, it would have to wait until he finished kissing. He just wanted to be lost in this sweetness.
"Quentin, may I come in?" Noah's magnetic voice came from outside the hospital room.
As soon as Lauren heard it, she turned to say, "Mr. Martin is here. Let me go."
Lauren was flushed.
Quentin reluctantly let go of Lauren.
At that moment, Noah really did open the door, looking sneaky.
"I knew you'd be here, Lauren. It's been a long time since we've seen each other," Noah said with a cheeky grin.
Lauren responded with an awkward smile, "Hello, Mr. Martin."
Noah glanced back and forth between Lauren and Quentin, mischievously saying, "Am I interrupting something?"
Noah's curious look made Lauren embarrassed.
Lauren looked at Quentin wistfully, hoping he could stop the indiscreet Noah.
"Don't tease Lauren. She's thin-skinned," Quentin said nonchalantly, clearly enjoying the show.
Quentin's ambiguous words only fueled more speculation. Lauren knew she couldn't rely on Quentin in such matters.
"You must have something to discuss with Quentin. I'll go make some coffee for you," Lauren said, eager to escape the scene.
"Alright, thanks, Lauren," Noah said with a grin.
When he finished speaking, Noah felt a cold glare directed at him. He turned to see Quentin staring at him icily.
"You don't need to make coffee. I'll make it later," Quentin said.
Lauren smiled. "It's no trouble at all. I can handle it."
"No, you shouldn't be handling hot water. If you're bored, take a walk in the garden," Quentin said sternly. Although he had initially asked Lauren to stay to take care of him, the truth was he just wanted to spend more time alone with her. He couldn't bear to let her do anything dangerous.
Noah rubbed his nose, realizing he had caused the trouble.
"Lauren, you should go for a walk. I'll make the coffee later," Noah said.
With both of them insisting, Lauren had no choice but to comply and went for a walk in the garden.
As soon as Lauren left, Noah started talking.
"Quentin, are you in wife-pampering mode now? Wait. I mean ex-wife. You two are divorced," Noah said excitedly.
Noah had a knack for saying things that could instantly anger Quentin.
Quentin's gaze turned sharp as a knife, directed at Noah as if he wanted to tear him apart.
"Don't get mad. I'm just stating the facts. But Quentin, when do you plan to remarry Lauren?" Noah asked with genuine concern.
'I have considered remarrying several times. However, since Lauren and I have reconciled, I am hesitant to bring up the idea of remarriage now,' Quentin thought.
He feared Lauren might think he was rushing things, so he chose to remain silent until he was sure she would agree.
"It's not the right time yet. When the time comes, we'll naturally be together," Quentin said calmly.
"Alright, as long as you have a plan, I'm relieved. Now, let's get down to business. Quentin, you don't look like a patient. Why haven't you been discharged yet?" Noah asked.
Quentin smiled faintly. There was no way he would reveal his true intentions to Noah.
If he told Noah, Noah would definitely try to ruin his plans. Quentin wasn't that foolish.
His mind raced, quickly coming up with a response.
"Acid burns are tricky. It's not a major issue, but it's not minor either. I have to follow the doctor's orders and stay for observation. So, I'll have to trouble you with the company's matters," Quentin said.
Noah instantly looked dejected. He had thought Quentin would be discharged soon, but five days had passed, and Quentin still hadn't returned to the company.
It seemed Quentin had grown fond of staying in the hospital.
Noah had taken the time to visit Quentin, hoping to gauge the severity of his injuries. Seeing Quentin and Lauren being affectionate made him both jealous and relieved.
'Fine,' Noah thought, 'I will play the good guy and let Quentin slack off in the hospital for a few more days, helping him in his quest to remarry Lauren.'
