Chapter 255 Jessica's Death

Quentin pretended not to care about Lauren outside the door, but he heard every word of her conversation with Sophia.

He was furious about the unspoken understanding between Lauren and Ethan. He thought, 'Lauren didn't seem to mind, which meant she and Ethan were intimate.'

Quentin couldn't help but clench his fists. 'Damn it! I shouldn't be thinking about these things, but I couldn't control my thoughts! This feeling of losing control drove me crazy!'

That night, Lauren had Ethan take Matthew back to the villa to sleep while she stayed there alone, refusing to leave.

Ethan didn't try to persuade Lauren. Once she did certain things, both she and he would feel at ease.

Sophia left the hospital arrogantly, relieved that Quentin wouldn't be soft on Lauren anymore.

Early the next morning, Lauren had Kimberly take care of Matthew's breakfast and then had Ethan bring Matthew to the hospital.

Ethan, knowing Lauren hadn't eaten, brought her a lunchbox. Seeing Ethan care so much for Lauren, Matthew gradually became less opposed to them being together.

Lauren had no appetite and continued to look towards the door of the hospital room. Quentin hadn't left all night, and she didn't want to humiliate herself again.

Quentin heard the commotion outside and couldn't help but frown. He had the nurse bring water and personally wiped Jessica's face and hands.

Quentin wiped carefully. It had been a long time since he had accompanied Jessica like this, and he felt very ashamed. Jessica had raised him alone, but he couldn't always be by her side. He wasn't a respectful child!

Quentin furrowed tightly. He longed for Jessica to get better again. Although it meant losing his position in the company, he would stay by her side and accompany her well.

At that moment, Jessica's hand suddenly moved. Quentin was overjoyed and couldn't wait to call out softly, "Grandma, are you awake?"

Jessica slowly opened her tired eyes and looked at Quentin in front of her. She smiled slightly.

Jessica inquired, "How long have I been asleep?"

Quentin was overjoyed and relieved, "Not long. It's good that you're awake. Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? I've already sent it to the doctor. This is great!"

Quentin held Jessica's hand tightly, knowing deep down how afraid he was that Jessica wouldn't wake up.

Jessica knew his thoughts. She affectionately squeezed Quentin's hand and said, "Silly Quentin."

Doctors and nurses rushed in from outside, and the attending physician quickly examined Jessica. He looked serious, nodded at Quentin after the examination, and then left.

Quentin followed the attending physician out of the room, and Lauren quietly followed them, overhearing their conversation.

The attending physician said, "Mrs. Jessica Robinson's body hasn't recovered. As I said before, she won't hold on for much longer."

"No, you have to save my grandma! She's already woken up. I don't want to hear you say these words of giving up!" Quentin looked at the attending physician with fiery eyes.

The attending physician was also helpless and comforted, "Mr. Robinson, please don't be angry. Everyone has to face birth, old age, illness, and death. Mrs. Jessica Robinson is already old, and her organs are failing. It's not that I don't want to save her; it's that she really has no hope of recovery." The doctor was sweating. He wasn't a god; he couldn't save Jessica, who was on the brink of death.

Hearing this, Lauren couldn't control her tears. Jessica was such a good person; how could she leave this world like this? She didn't believe it!

Quentin sighed helplessly. He knew it was pointless to make things difficult for the doctor. He could spend more time with Jessica. So, he forced himself to walk back to the room.

Lauren seized the moment and softly called into the room, "Jessica, it's Lauren. I beg you to see me and Matthew."

Quentin's eyes narrowed as he shouted, "Get out!"

Lauren pleaded, "Quentin, please!"

Lauren couldn't stop crying. She knew Jessica didn't have much time left, and she couldn't wait aimlessly any longer.

"Quentin, let Lauren and Matthew in," Jessica said weakly, her voice drowned out by the sound of the ventilator.

Quentin hurried over and comforted, "Grandma, you need to rest. You can't talk too much!"

Jessica face contorted in pain. She said, "Quentin, let them in. I'm afraid if I don't see them now, I won't..."

Quentin called, "Grandma!"

"Quentin, are you not going to listen to me now? Matthew is your child, after all. No matter how angry you are with Lauren, that fact won't change," Jessica said, tears falling.

She knew her life was coming to an end, but she hoped to see Quentin's life have a good ending.

Upon hearing the news of Jessica waking up, Sophia rushed to the hospital, fearing her lies would be exposed.

At this moment, Lauren was still standing at the door, pleading bitterly. Sophia was overjoyed, thinking it wasn't too late.

Sophia entered the room and heard Jessica talking about Lauren, while Quentin gritted his teeth and refused to let Lauren in.

Quentin remarked, "Grandma, Lauren is too vicious. Have you forgotten how she forced you..."

Seeing the situation was bad, Sophia quickly interjected, "Grandma, Quentin is doing this for your sake!"

Jessica looked deeply at Sophia and moved her lips but said nothing.

Sophia turned to Quentin and said, "Quentin, why not let Miss Walker in for five minutes? After all, Grandma has loved her like a granddaughter for so many years. I don't think Miss Walker will upset Jessica again. Fulfill Grandma's wish. We'll be by her side; it should be fine."

Seeing the longing in Jessica's eyes, Quentin finally softened.

He strode to the door, looked coldly at Lauren, and said, "You have five minutes. Say what you need to, and then get out!"

Lauren was grateful and said, "Thank you! Thank you!"

After thanking him, Lauren quickly found Matthew and brought him to Jessica's room.

Seeing Jessica lying on the bed, emaciated and with tubes attached, Lauren's heart broke.

She walked to the bedside and knelt with a thud.

"Grandma, I'm sorry!" Lauren repented.

However, no matter how much she regretted it, it was useless. What had happened in the past had happened, and the lost time was gone. Nothing would change because of her regret.

Jessica's eyes filled with tears again. She said, "Lauren, get up. Don't be sad. I've told you I've come to terms with life and death. Don't be too sad; it's meaningless."

Jessica said, panting heavily, looking lovingly at Lauren. Seeing Jessica struggling like this, Lauren felt even more ashamed.
