Chapter 450 She Lost Her Memory

Quentin's body trembled slightly. He frowned and took a few steps to the window where Odette had fallen into the water, peering down.

Lauren knew he was worried and wanted to save her.

A pang of jealousy crossed her heart, but she still came over to comfort him. "You need to get someone to rescue her right away. If we wait any longer, she might not make it."

Quentin turned to look at Lauren. "You're right. We can't let her die like this."

Felix, hearing this, immediately signaled his men and the police to start a rescue operation around the cruise ship.

Quentin refused to leave, and Lauren had no choice but to stay by his side, watching his tired eyes with a heart full of pain.

"Quentin, why don't you go rest for a while? I'll stay here and let you know as soon as we find Odette."

Quentin didn't speak, but looked back at Lauren with a pained expression. "No, I'll stay here too. If you're tired, you should take Matthew back to rest."

"I'm fine. Let's just have someone take Matthew back to sleep. He's been through a lot."

Matthew was sleeping soundly in Lauren's arms, clearly having not slept well for several nights.

Understandably, suddenly being separated from his parents would be hard on anyone, let alone a child.

Quentin's men took Matthew back to the villa first, leaving Lauren and Quentin to wait for news about Odette.

When the rescue team pulled Odette from the sea, her wedding dress was soaked and clung to her body.

Her face was pale, her lips devoid of color, and there was a large, bloody wound on her forehead, likely from hitting a rock when she fell.

Seeing the prominent wound on her forehead and her pitiful state, even knowing the bad things she had done, Lauren couldn't help but feel a bit of pity for her.

Felix quickly arranged for an ambulance to take her to the hospital.

In the ICU, Lauren looked at the unconscious Odette with a heavy heart.

The doctor had just told her that Odette had lost her baby.

"Even though her greed led to this, seeing her like this still makes me feel uneasy," Lauren said.

Quentin gently held Lauren in his arms and let out a bitter laugh. "By that logic, I'm even more to blame. I didn't make my feelings clear to her from the start, which gave her unrealistic hopes. In the end, it's my fault."

Lauren smiled and playfully raised an eyebrow. "If I hadn't come into your life, you wouldn't have fallen for me and rejected Odette repeatedly. So, maybe it's my fault."

Though she was smiling, her heart felt like it was being pricked by needles.

Quentin frowned, seeming to sense her inner turmoil. "Even if you hadn't come along, I would never have married her."

Lauren's smile faded, and her expression became serious.

Quentin pulled Lauren closer, not realizing that her presence had made him indifferent to everyone else.

Four hours later, something unexpected happened.

Odette finally woke up, immediately shrinking to the head of the bed and showing extreme resistance to anyone who approached her.

Her eyes were filled with fear, like a broken-minded person or an amnesiac, not even recognizing Lauren.

"Who are you? Who am I? Why did you bring me here? Go away, don't touch me!"

Seeing her unusual behavior, Quentin, worried she might harm Lauren, quickly pulled Lauren out of the room and called for the doctor.

After an examination, the doctor concluded, "The patient likely hit her head on a rock when she fell into the sea, causing a brain hemorrhage, which led to mental confusion and intermittent amnesia."

"Amnesia?" Lauren was shocked.

"Yes, this is common. The brain is complex, and even minor impacts can sometimes cause this."

The doctor patiently explained to Lauren, but Quentin, standing nearby, frowned deeply. "When will she regain her memory?"

"I can't say for sure," the doctor replied uneasily under Quentin's intense gaze. "It could be tomorrow, a week from now, or she might never recover."

"Is it that serious? Isn't there anything else we can try?"

Seeing Odette's amnesia, Lauren couldn't help but feel a bit guilty and became more eager to help her recover.

The doctor thought for a moment. "There are ways, but it requires cooperation from you. Once she's discharged, you can take her to familiar places to stimulate her brain and possibly help her regain her memory."

As they were talking, there was a knock on the office door. The doctor got up to open it, and two police officers walked in.

"Mr. Robinson, we heard that the suspect Odette is in this hospital. Can we ask her a few questions?"

If Gregory was the mastermind behind everything, Odette, as an accomplice, couldn't escape her charges.

Had she not been injured and hospitalized, the police would have taken her to the station for questioning by now.

Quentin's eyes darkened. "I'm sorry, but she can't answer any questions right now. She's lost her memory and doesn't remember anything."

The two officers exchanged glances, looking troubled. "What should we do? Odette is a key suspect."

"I'll handle this. Don't worry, no one will give you a hard time. As soon as she regains her memory, I'll bring her to the station for questioning."

Quentin's words showed no pity for Odette, which left Lauren with mixed feelings.

While she was glad Quentin had completely given up on Odette, she was also worried about Odette's current situation.

After the police left, Quentin and Lauren no longer felt like chatting with the doctor and left the office.

Walking down the hospital corridor, Lauren hesitated for a long time before speaking carefully. "Do we have to send Odette to the police?"

"Lauren, don't tell me you're feeling sorry for her now," Quentin said disapprovingly.

He was most worried about this, as Lauren could be too kind-hearted at times.

"I'm not feeling sorry for her. I just think she's pitiful. Her dream wedding was ruined, she lost her baby, and as soon as she regains her memory, she'll be sent to the police for trial. Maybe we can handle this differently?"

Lauren spoke, thinking her idea was good, and looked up at Quentin expectantly, only to be met with his firm rejection.

"No, Lauren. Don't forget, she conspired with Gregory to kidnap Matthew and your mother. How can you sympathize with her now? Do you think that's fair to them?"

Thinking of Matthew and Kimberly, Lauren didn't know what to say.

She opened her mouth but took a long time to speak. "You're right. Let's leave it to the police."

She looked a bit lost as she continued walking alone.

Quentin stopped, feeling a sudden unease.

Odette's amnesia had too much of an impact on Lauren. This ticking time bomb needed to be defused as soon as possible.
