Chapter 416 Acting Unleashed

"No," Quentin snapped.

He had a million things he wanted to say to Lauren, but when it came time to speak, he was tongue-tied.

He was never the romantic type; sweet talk just wasn't his thing.

"Okay," Lauren replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

Silence settled between them again as they stared at each other.

"You,"

"You,"

They both started at the same time, and as the silence threatened to return, Lauren quickly said, "I'm fine. You go ahead."

"Alright." Quentin nodded and pulled a USB drive from his pocket, handing it to Lauren.

"Evidence."

"What?" Lauren looked puzzled.

"Evidence that Gregory's been lying to you."

Quentin explained that he had installed a hidden camera in Gregory's private villa during his last visit.

The camera was well-hidden but had a surprisingly good view.

Lauren finally remembered Quentin's promise.

He had said he would make her understand.

And now, he had brought the evidence!

After watching the video, Lauren's lips trembled as she asked the question she most wanted answered:

"Matthew isn't sick?"

"No," Quentin confirmed, giving Lauren the answer she had hoped for. "It was all a lie Gregory made up to lure you out."

"Thank goodness." Lauren lowered her gaze and sighed in relief. She felt a bit foolish; if it weren't for Quentin, she might have been completely deceived by Gregory's schemes.

Seeing Lauren's relief, Quentin's mood lifted a bit.

Right now, the only people who could make him feel better were Lauren and Matthew.

"But you resorting to spying is surprising," Lauren said, pretending to be skeptical.

Her trust was already leaning towards Quentin.

Thank God for showing her some mercy and not letting Quentin use her.

"Is that so?" Quentin sighed, a hint of self-mockery in his voice. "I don't know what else I wouldn't do for you."

Lauren's face flushed. Could she take Quentin's words as a confession?

Lauren was conflicted. The servants' sneers over the past few days had almost convinced her that Quentin truly liked Odette. But Quentin's words just now seemed to suggest otherwise.

Could she trust Quentin? Could she give her heart to him again?

Lauren's rational side urged her to stay calm.

In a relationship, the one who gives their heart first always loses.

She had to find out Quentin's relationship with Odette!

If she acted rashly like before, she would end up regretting it.

"Quentin, I need to know, what's your relationship with Odette?" Lauren asked, hoping to hear nothing.

But she knew that was unlikely.

Things never went as she imagined, especially when Quentin was involved.

Quentin frowned, surprised by Lauren's sudden question.

How should he answer? What should he say?

After some hesitation, Quentin decided to hide the fact that he had agreed to marry Odette. He would explain it later.

He believed Lauren would understand.

Lauren noticed Quentin's hesitation. He didn't answer immediately.

'Is he trying to hide something?' Lauren wondered.

Both Lauren and Quentin fell silent, each with their doubts and plans.

Their hearts were slowly drawing closer until an unwelcome voice interrupted.

"Quentin!"

Odette burst through the door.

To the servants, she was now Quentin's fiancée.

"Ms. Foster."

The servants greeted her in unison, catching Lauren off guard. She remembered the servants' earlier comments.

Could it be that Odette and Quentin were already together?

Lauren braced herself for the worst. She glanced at Odette, who seemed just as surprised, then at Quentin, who frowned, clearly annoyed by the servants' behavior.

Quentin was indeed irritated. He couldn't understand why the servants were acting this way.

He recalled the freckled maid mentioning the other servants' recent attitude towards Lauren.

Seeing their behavior towards Odette today, he got it.

They must have mistaken Odette for Mrs. Robinson.

Quentin wanted to clear up his relationship with Odette, but decided there was nothing to explain.

Odette was indeed his fiancée.

Though he didn't want it, he could endure the discomfort for Matthew and Lauren.

While Odette was momentarily flustered by the servants' enthusiasm, Quentin leaned down and gently kissed Lauren's lips.

He was whispering, "Play along later, don't take it seriously."

Lauren looked at him, puzzled.

Play along later? Did he need her cooperation?

"Quentin! I've been waiting for you at the bar forever!" Odette pouted, her playful demeanor endearing to the servants.

"If you don't want to wait, you don't have to," Quentin replied.

He didn't like Odette's coquettish behavior, knowing she could act that way with anyone.

"I was wrong! Quentin, don't be mad." Odette's voice was soft and sweet.

"Okay," Quentin responded curtly.

"By the way, why is Lauren here?" Odette asked, glaring at Lauren with disdain and hatred, as if they had a deep-seated grudge.

"Quentin locked me in here," Lauren answered honestly.

But to Odette, it sounded different.

What did Lauren mean? Quentin locked her up? Was she challenging Odette?

'Lauren, how dare you ruin Odette's good mood!' Odette thought.

"Oh? The door wasn't locked, yet you chose not to leave. Seems like she enjoys being imprisoned by men. Is that some special preference?" Odette sneered, her eyes filled with mockery.

"No, unlike you, I don't have such preferences." Lauren retorted.

She might not be as eloquent, but she wasn't a pushover.

Odette wanted to curse, but remembered she was Quentin's fiancée. Why should she argue?

"Quentin, look at her!"

Odette put on a pitiful expression, as if she were the most unfortunate person in the world.

Quentin frowned, feeling nauseated again.

He knew Odette was the cause, but couldn't show any sign of disgust.

"What's wrong? Is relying on men all you can do?" Lauren rolled her eyes, her good mood ruined by Odette.

Odette acted pitiful and even tried to charm Quentin.

"So what if I rely on men? If you had someone to rely on, you would, too!" Odette said, glancing at Quentin, hoping he would support her.

Lauren also looked at Quentin, feeling relieved.

She knew Quentin well enough to see he wouldn't help if he didn't want to. If he wanted to help, he would have already.

"Lauren, shut up."
