Chapter 219 Matthew is Angry
Lauren was so angry that she laughed. After all, she had nothing to say to Quentin and didn't need to leave a good impression towards him.
She admired herself for having honed her skills so well that she could easily infuriate Quentin without much effort.
"If I'm so unreasonable, why don't you find someone who is reasonable?" Lauren said with a full smile while Quentin's face turned pale with anger.
Matthew sensed the tense atmosphere but didn't dare to speak. He could only stand quietly on the side, watching Lauren and Quentin argue.
The more Quentin thought about it, the angrier he got. He retorted, "Fine."
He didn't look at Lauren and Matthew, turned around, and left.
Lauren also took Matthew's hand, stubbornly lifted her head, and left the Robinson Estate.
"Mommy, don't be angry," Matthew urged as he gently patted Lauren's leg with his small hand, looking scared.
Seeing Matthew like this, Lauren felt a deep ache in her heart and hugged him tightly. She comforted him, "Matthew, it's okay. I'm fine."
"Mommy, why do you always argue with Quentin whenever you see him? Aren't you friends?" Matthew asked Lauren in an innocent tone, not understanding why his beloved mommy didn't seem to like Quentin as much as he did.
Lauren looked at Matthew with a complicated expression. She remarked, "Matthew, the adult world is very complicated. You won't understand for now, but you'll get it when you grow up."
Matthew comforted, "Oh, then, Mommy, don't be angry."
Lauren nodded and forced a smile to comfort Matthew.
Seeing Lauren's smile, Matthew felt relieved and quickly returned to his playful self, completely forgetting the earlier unpleasantness.
Watching the carefree Matthew, Lauren couldn't help but feel nostalgic. Six years ago, she was as unrestrained as Matthew. She brought this upon herself and could never return to her former innocence.
You reap what you sow, and she had brought this upon herself. Three years of wandering abroad had made Lauren much more mature and emotionally stable. However, she still didn't understand why she always got so easily agitated whenever she saw Quentin, completely forgetting the poise and coolness she wanted to maintain.
Lauren patted Matthew's little head and sighed, thinking, 'Fortunately, I still have Matthew by my side; otherwise, I wouldn't know what the meaning of my life is.'
"Matthew, shall we go find your Uncle Ethan? I want to ask him how your school enrollment is going, and we can visit the company, too," Lauren said gently.
"Okay," Matthew agreed without hesitation.
On the way, Matthew felt a bit uneasy. He looked at Lauren and said, "Mommy, if I go to school, does that mean I can't do whatever I want anymore?"
Lauren looked at Matthew with amusement and said, "Matthew, why would you say that? Going to school is the most meaningful thing. Don't you want to go to kindergarten?"
Matthew shook his head. He confessed, "I'm a little scared."
For Matthew, suddenly leaving her warm embrace to go to a strange kindergarten was indeed a big challenge for both the both of them.
However, growing up and going to school were inevitable. Although Lauren couldn't bear to part with Matthew, she knew she couldn't hinder his growth because of her own reluctance.
Matthew needed a process to grow and temper, and she should maintain a positive attitude toward his growth.
Although Lauren felt a heartache, she didn't show it and instead lovingly persuaded Matthew.
Lauren comforted, "Matthew, don't be afraid. You are a brave boy. There's nothing to fear about going to school. You will not only learn interesting things but also make many friends. None of us can be alone. If you stay at home all the time, you'll become disconnected from the world, and that's a scary outcome. Look at me; after I started working, I met many interesting friends, and I'm happy every day. So, Matthew, be brave and take that step, okay?"
Hearing Lauren's words, Matthew felt a bit relieved. In his mind, Lauren was omnipotent and knew everything. He aspired to be like her, so her words deeply moved him.
"Mommy, I'll listen to you. I'll be brave," Matthew said with a mischievous smile.
Lauren affectionately kissed Matthew's cheek, continuing their happy conversation.
Lauren held Matthew's hand as they arrived at the company's design department, where everyone was busy. Lauren, who hadn't been to the company for several days, attracted everyone's attention, especially Matthew, who became the center of focus.
"Lauren, is this your son? He's so cute and handsome!" Austin Fisher said with a smile.
Richard looked up and saw the proud Matthew. He walked over and said, "This kid really has a lot of his father's features."
Richard's words drew everyone's attention. It had been three years since Lauren divorced from Quentin of the Robinson Conglomerate, and she had been out of touch since then, so few people knew of her past with Quentin.
So, the young college graduates present didn't associate the child in front of them with Quentin.
Ethan's close relationship with Lauren led them to believe Matthew was Ethan's child mistakenly. In this era, having a child out of wedlock wasn't as disgraceful as it once was.
"Really? This little guy is much cuter than Mr. White, though Mr. White is also very handsome!" Another female colleague with girlish fantasies said, clearly thinking Matthew was Ethan's child.
Lauren looked embarrassed, and Richard, realizing his mistake, gave Lauren an apologetic smile before quickly running off.
Matthew was not happy to hear this. He was not Ethan's child, and he had to make that clear.
"My name is Mattana. Ethan is just my uncle," Matthew said stubbornly, his tone sharp, much like Quentin's.
Lauren shook her head. How could she have such thoughts? Maybe she was just upset by Quentin today, which confused her.
Lauren had never seen any resemblance to Quentin in Matthew in the past three years. Kimberly and Ethan might have comforted her when they said Matthew looked just like her when she was a child.
Indeed, Matthew was mischievous, lively, and smart, unlike the scheming Quentin.
Lauren smiled and pulled Matthew closer, saying to everyone, "I spoil Matthew. Don't mind him. Matthew is my child with my ex-husband, so don't overthink it. Get back to work!"
Matthew, held by Lauren, sulked alone. He thought, 'Why does everyone always mistake me for Ethan and my mommy's child? I'm extremely unhappy!'
