Chapter 229 A Visit with Hidden Intentions

'What did it mean to only cherish something after losing it?' Quentin and Sophia deeply understood this, but Lauren didn't agree. Quentin had caused her so much pain that she didn't even want to remember the past.

Today, Lauren didn't bring Matthew. She went to Robinson's Estate alone. Whether Quentin was there or not, she needed to make things clear.

This time, Lauren was very composed. She had thought through her purpose for this visit, so she wasn't hesitant or flustered. Ethan wanted to accompany her, but Lauren refused. This was a matter between her and the Robinson Family. There was no need to involve the innocent Ethan.

When she arrived at the Robinson Estate, Lauren didn't see the familiar black Ferrari, and felt a bit relieved. She didn't know why she felt this way, but after feeling relieved, she headed straight to Jessica's room.

Jessica's complexion had slightly improved over the past few days, but she was still very thin and pale.

Seeing Jessica seriously ill, Lauren felt a bit of pity. However, recalling Sophia's arrogant attitude, even that small amount of pity vanished.

"Grandma," Lauren called out to Jessica in a heavy tone.

Jessica opened her eyes and smiled. "Lauren, you're here."

Lauren didn't return the smile. She knelt with a thud. "Grandma, I beg you to give Matthew and me a way out."

Jessica was shocked and anxiously tried to help Lauren up, but she had been paralyzed for a long time and couldn't sit up.

Jessica said, "Lauren, if you have something to say, just say it. There's no need for this."

"No, Grandma. If you don't agree, I won't get up." Lauren wiped her tears, apologizing in her heart for pressuring the sick Jessica. However, she had no other effective way.

Jessica was anxious. She didn't understand what Lauren meant by asking for a way out, nor did she know what trouble Lauren was facing. She patted the bed and struggled, but her paralyzed body couldn't get up. Exhausted, she finally fell back onto the bed.

Lauren's heart ached. She immediately ran over to support Jessica. Jessica, gasping for breath, pleaded with Lauren, "Lauren, if you have something to say, just say it. Please don't do anything to hurt yourself."

Actually, Lauren didn't intend to do anything drastic. She just wanted to play a little trick to make Jessica feel sorry for her, setting the stage for what she needed to say next.

Forgive her for using Jessica this time, but she had no other choice.

"Grandma, you know Matthew is of school age. Recently, I asked Ethan to help me with Matthew's school enrollment, but some strangers obstructed us. Grandma, although I have no evidence, anyone with ill intentions investigating me would surely find out about Matthew's background. In City A, who would dare to trouble a child of the Robinson Family? I find it hard to believe the excuse that someone unrelated is deliberately making things difficult for me," Lauren spoke righteously, explaining everything clearly.

Jessica frowned deeply, unwilling to believe what Lauren said was true.

Jessica said, "Lauren, I understand what you're saying. But... Are you sure this has something to do with Quentin? I know Quentin well enough to say that he always acts with integrity."

"Grandma." Lauren choked up. Quentin was Jessica's biological grandson. Lauren looked at Jessica with disappointment, wondering if Jessica had already seen through her ulterior motives for coming today.

Lauren's sadness made Jessica very upset. "Lauren, don't worry. I will investigate this matter thoroughly. If it turns out that Quentin is responsible, I won't let him off. Although he is my grandson, I won't be soft."

"Grandma, do you know he has decided to take Matthew's custody from me?" Lauren looked at Jessica tearfully.

She knew Jessica always wanted Matthew to return to the Robinson Family. She wanted to see if Jessica would be ruthless enough to do this.

Jessica was shocked. "No way. Matthew has been with you for three years, and Quentin has never mentioned fighting for his custody."

Lauren sneered. "Grandma, people change. I firmly believe that. I used to think he was a man of integrity, but now I just want to ask you if he and I have a falling out, who would you choose to support?"

This question stumped Jessica. Her face turned pale. She sincerely didn't want things to escalate to that point. However, seeing Lauren's resolute expression, she felt heartbroken and almost fainted.

"Lauren, I can't choose. Is there really no way to resolve this?" Jessica asked, struggling to hold Lauren's hand.

Lauren knelt again. "Grandma, I can lose everything, but not Matthew. I beg you to help me. Just feel sorry for me. Quentin has a family. He has you and Sophia. He is a thousand times happier than me. Matthew isn't that important to him."

Jessica closed her eyes in sorrow and finally said weakly, "Alright, Lauren, stand up. I promise you that even though I don't want to believe Quentin would do this, I will stand by you because I believe Matthew will be happier with you. As long as he's happy, everything will be fine."

Lauren's tears flowed . "Thank you, Grandma."

'I'm sorry, Grandma,' Lauren apologized in her heart, asking for forgiveness for using Jessica this time. For Matthew, she was willing to do anything.

"Lauren, tell me how you want me to help you," Jessica said, forcing herself to stay strong and looking helplessly at Lauren.

Lauren sat by Jessica's bed, hesitated for a long time, and finally revealed her purpose.

Lauren replied, "Grandma, I need you to go to the notary office and make a notarized statement severing all ties with Matthew, including severing Matthew's father-son relationship with Quentin."

"Lauren, you..." Jessica was extremely agitated as she heard this this. She started coughing violently, struggling to breathe, looking very distressed.

Lauren felt terrible. She quickly patted Jessica's back, and after a long time, Jessica finally calmed down.

"Lauren, I can't do that. Although I could decide for Quentin, I can't sever my ties with Matthew. Lauren, I don't have many days left. I don't want to die without any descendants visiting my grave! I know you're in pain, but I also beg you to pity me. Your conflict with Quentin makes me very sad, too!" Jessica said, tears streaming down her face.

Before coming, Lauren had sworn she wouldn't soften her heart, but seeing Jessica's pain, she felt immense sorrow. Just as she was struggling with whether she was being too cruel, the door opened.

She turned to see Quentin walking in with a dark expression. He glanced at Lauren with contempt as if he wished to send her to hell. Quentin's cold demeanor made Lauren shiver uncontrollably.

He was blaming her for making things difficult for Jessica here.
