Chapter 153 Parting Ways

As soon as Quentin let go of his hand, Lauren disdainfully patted her hands. She looked at Quentin with contempt and then stood up proudly.

"I will take the child away. If he stays with you, you won't love him properly. Of course, I can't bear to let him have a stepmother in the future," Lauren said coldly.

Quentin returned to his usual indifference. Although he was hurting inside, he pretended to be calm.

"Can I see him?" Quentin asked.

Lauren sneered, "Of course, you can say goodbye to Matthew properly. Oh, I forgot to tell you, his name is Matthew. He is the greatest gift from heaven to me. I hope you remember that you once had a child named Matthew."

Quentin walked dejectedly to the nursery next door, a room he and Lauren had decorated together. They debated continuously about whether to paint the walls pink or blue because Quentin thought it would be a girl who liked pink, and Lauren thought blue was more relaxing.

Quentin watched Matthew sleep. His chubby little hands were placed on either side of his head in a surrendering pose, looking very cute.

Matthew's chubby little mouth was pouting as if he had suffered a great grievance. This adorable child instantly captured Quentin's heart, making it hard for him to let go. This might be the nature of fatherly love.

Quentin reached out and held Matthew's little hand. It was soft, warm, and so small, like soft jelly, very cute.

At this moment, Matthew suddenly opened his big, adorable eyes. He stared at Quentin without crying or moving, just smiling at him as if he knew Quentin was his dad.

Quentin felt a pang of sadness in his heart. Unknowingly, his eyes turned red, and a tear fell, stinging his eyes and making Matthew cry.

Matthew started crying loudly, immediately waking up the nanny. The nanny was a bit surprised to see Quentin but quickly returned to normal.

"Mr. Robinson, you're finally back." The nanny familiarly picked up Matthew and gently rocked him. She gently coaxed, "Matthew, your daddy is back. Be good and go back to sleep."

Matthew was still crying while Quentin's heart softened. He didn't expect such a small child to have such a loud voice, and it was also his first time being so close to a baby.

In the room, Lauren sat alone. After thinking for a while, she finally called Ethan.

"Ethan, pick me up," Lauren said.

Ethan hadn't slept all night, either. He knew Lauren must have had a tough night. Ethan felt both heartache and frustration. After thinking all night, he decided he wouldn't let go of Lauren's hand this time.

Without speaking more, Ethan gently said, "Okay, wait for me."

Lauren felt warm. At this moment, Ethan was the only person she could turn to.

Soon, Lauren packed her luggage and went to the nursery to pack Matthew's things. She completely ignored Quentin, treating him like air.

The nanny was a bit puzzled but didn't ask much. She continued to soothe Matthew to sleep.

Seeing Lauren packing, Quentin felt depressed. He signaled the nanny to take Matthew to another room. The nanny realized Quentin's intention and took Matthew downstairs.

"What are your plans?" Quentin asked Lauren sadly.

He knew how stubborn Lauren was. He thought it might be good for them to cool off for a while. Once Lauren calmed down, he would explain everything clearly.

Logic told him not to say much now. But seeing Lauren's strong demeanor, he only felt heartache.

Lauren didn't stop packing and politely replied, "I've contacted Ethan. Don't worry, and I'll take good care of Matthew. Please comfort Grandma and tell her I'm sorry."

Quentin's heart was bleeding, but he still nodded.

Soon, Ethan arrived at the Robinson family Villa. He strode in and stopped when he saw Quentin.

"Bastard!" Ethan cursed and punched Quentin in the face. Quentin fell to the ground, blood trickling from his mouth, looking very messy.

Ethan wanted to scold him more, but Lauren's appearance stopped him. Lauren glanced coldly at Quentin and then quickly turned away.

"Ethan, don't do this. It's not worth it," Lauren said.

The words 'not worth' felt like a knife stabbing Quentin's heart. Lauren had indeed given up on him completely.

Lauren pulled Ethan's sleeve and walked into the room, asking him to move the luggage to the car quickly.

After Ethan finished moving all the luggage, Lauren took Matthew, who was still crying, from the nanny.

Not knowing what had happened, the nanny said to Lauren in confusion, " Mrs. Robinson, I don't know what's wrong with Matthew. I can't seem to soothe him."

Lauren smiled faintly and said, "It's okay. Thank you for your hard work during this time."

"Mrs. Robinson, where are you going? You're still weak. It's best not to go out. Take good care of yourself and rest well," the nanny advised.

Lauren nodded in acknowledgment. She calmly replied, "Thank you. I'll be careful."

After speaking, Lauren left the villa with Matthew in her arms, not looking back as she got into Ethan's car.

"Lauren, where are you planning to go? To the small apartment, you used to rent, or..." Ethan didn't finish his sentence, afraid Lauren would refuse.

Lauren looked at the gradually calming Matthew in her arms and softly said, "Ethan, I have a request. I want to stay in your villa. That small apartment was bought by Quentin long ago. I don't want any more entanglements with him, so I can only trouble you. I owe you more and more, and I'm afraid I won't be able to repay it in this lifetime."

Ethan quickly said, "Don't say that. There's no need to talk about debts between us. Besides, I'm very happy that you and Matthew will stay in my villa. Don't say polite words, or I'll get angry."

Lauren seriously said to Ethan, "Ethan, thank you for always being there when I'm at my lowest!"

Ethan's body stiffened. He wished Lauren would rely on him in the future, too. But it wasn't the time to talk about these things. He needed to help Lauren be strong again and live a good life.

"Alright, take a rest. We'll be home soon," Ethan said.

Lauren looked at the scenery passing by outside the window, her mood gradually calming down. This winter was really cold, so cold that she felt her heart was about to be frozen.

Seeing the still-sleeping Matthew in her arms, she couldn't control her tears.

"Matthew, will you blame me for insisting on taking you away, making you live a hard life with me?" Lauren murmured.

Unaware of anything, Matthew continued to sleep soundly. Being a child with no awareness was great—no need to worry about tomorrow or life's smoothness. Just eat well, dress warmly, and sleep soundly.
