Chapter 300 The Real Man Quentin

Lauren didn't mean to come off as pitiful, but somehow, she ended up showing a vulnerable side in front of Quentin, her ex-husband.

Right after she finished talking, she realized her tone was all wrong. It sounded like she was being flirty or something, which was totally not cool for a chat with Quentin.

But it was too late to take it back. Lauren saw this weird look in Quentin's eyes, and she felt super embarrassed. There was no undoing what she said, and even if she wanted to fix it, it was too late.

Lauren's attitude did get to Quentin, though. He forced himself to look away and asked coldly, "Well, Ms.Walker, it's not every day you ask for my help. So, what do you need?"

Lauren's palms were sweating from nerves. Clenching her fists, she took a deep breath and said in a rush, "My dad's in danger. He accidentally pissed off a mafia boss. They found out my dad knows you and said you need to step in to save him. Mr. Robinson, I'd be really grateful. I hope you..."

"I don't need your gratitude, and I'm not a good person," Quentin cut her off coldly.

Lauren's face fell when she heard that, making her look even more pitiful.

Matthew overheard their conversation. He didn't get all of it, but he could tell Lauren was upset.

He gave Quentin a big, sloppy kiss on the cheek, leaving a trail of drool. Proud of himself and seeing Quentin's flushed face, he asked, "Daddy, don't make Mommy sad, okay? Mommy's unhappy every day, and Uncle Ethan is always arguing with her."

"Matthew!" Lauren shouted, stopping him from saying more.

Quentin's eyes darkened after hearing Matthew. Lauren, who always pretended to be strong, was clearly unhappy but still faked being okay. The only guy who could make her happy was him. Thinking of this, he felt a bit smug.

"Mr. Robinson, you're the only one who can fix this!" Lauren continued, trying to smooth over the awkwardness from Matthew's words.

Quentin's attitude shifted. He teased, "I didn't know I had that kind of power."

He did have some connections with the mafia in City A. Since they said he needed to handle it, it meant it wasn't that serious. That was why he had the time to play this cat-and-mouse game with Lauren.

Lauren was anxious but didn't want to directly ask Quentin what he meant. "Mr. Robinson, please save my dad for Matthew's sake," she said cautiously.

She was sweating bullets. If Quentin didn't agree, she had no idea what to do. The mafia stories online were terrifying, and reasoning with them was impossible. Right now, only Quentin could convince those scary people to spare Ulysses.

Quentin dropped his playful look and got serious. "I can help, but what's in it for me?"

Quentin never did anything for free; he admitted he wasn't a helpful guy.

Lauren was floored. Benefits? What could she possibly offer him? Money? Power? The president of the biggest conglomerate in City A definitely didn't need those. Even if Quentin wanted them, she probably couldn't deliver.

But to save Ulysses, Lauren took a deep breath and asked, "What benefits do you want? I'll do my best to meet them."

She tried to sound confident, but inside, she was a mess. What if Quentin asked for something she couldn't give? Her face showed her inner turmoil.

Quentin noticed every bit of her anxiety. Lauren was usually so composed, so seeing her this rattled was a rare sight.

"I want you," Quentin started, pausing just long enough to see Lauren's face turn red with embarrassment. He was clearly enjoying this. Then he continued, "I want you to design the renovation plans for my villa."

Lauren felt like she'd been on a roller coaster. She realized Quentin was just messing with her. But whatever, the main thing was to solve the problem. She didn't have the energy to dwell on their past issues.

"Okay," Lauren agreed, surprised that his condition was so simple. She even felt a bit grateful.

Quentin's eyes darkened. "Don't agree so quickly. You have to design until I'm satisfied. And if I don't solve the problem, our deal is off."

"I believe you," Lauren said, not sure why she trusted Quentin so much. She just liked the feeling of having someone to rely on.

Quentin's eyes lit up as he smiled and aksed, "Which gang did your dad piss off?"

Lauren had asked Ulysses before coming here. "Obsidian Gang," she replied.

Hearing that, Quentin's expression turned serious. He didn't expect Ulysses to run into his long-time enemy in such a big city.

In City A, Quentin had connections with all the other gangs, so they usually respected him. But the leader of the Obsidian Gang, Brent Reynolds, was different. He was a former business rival who had failed and ended up in the mafia.

Quentin thought about what Lauren had said. It seemed like Brent's threat to Ulysses had something to do with him. Brent had seen him as an enemy for years and wanted to take him down. It was time to settle the score with Brent.

Noticing Quentin's strange expression, Lauren asked, "Is this Obsidian Gang really tricky?"

Quentin responded coldly, "You don't need to worry about that. Just remember our deal."

Lauren shut her mouth. She knew Quentin was a powerful man. She had never doubted his influence and ability, and this time was no different—she firmly believed in him.

Matthew looked back and forth between Quentin and Lauren, shaking his head. He was in a great mood. He liked seeing them talk calmly. He liked it even more when they were together like this. Even if they did nothing, he felt at ease.

But happy times always flew by. After Quentin agreed to help with Ulysses' situation, they left Robinson Conglomerate.
