Chapter 371 First Encounter

Noticing the prepared meal on the table, Quentin sneered, "You actually cooked?"

Since he and Lauren got married, they hadn't had a proper meal together; there was just too much to handle at the company.

"After all, Gregory has helped me a lot, and he's a guest in our home," Lauren quickly explained, fearing Quentin might misunderstand her relationship with Gregory. "I only met him yesterday."

Ignoring Lauren's words, Quentin walked straight to the dining table and sat down. "Odette and I haven't eaten either."

Hearing that Quentin was hungry, Lauren didn't say much more.

"Luckily, I made plenty," Lauren sighed with relief.

"Why are you back?" Quentin asked Lauren.

Lauren then brought up the main issue. "The contract you signed with the Cloud Group is in my room. I'll get it for you later. Why did you schedule the contract signing and the team-building event on the same day?"

Facing Lauren's question, Quentin didn't answer. Instead, he looked at Gregory and said, "So Gregory came to find me, and you just followed him?"

"Yes." Lauren nodded, not noticing Quentin's unusual tone.

Gregory didn't avoid Quentin's gaze; instead, he met it head-on.

Even though it was their first meeting, Quentin felt a strange familiarity with Gregory, as if they had met before.

"This gentleman even looks a bit like Quentin," Odette said seriously after looking at Gregory for a few moments.

"Really?" Quentin said expressionlessly. "I don't think at all."

Knowing Quentin was angry, Odette didn't dare to say more about Gregory.

"You said you used to work for the Cloud Group. Why aren't you there anymore?" Quentin asked Gregory.

Hearing Quentin bring this up, Lauren decided to explain proactively.

"Actually, I poached him to work for me," Lauren said. "Gregory is very capable in many aspects, and I thought he was a talent, so I brought him to our company."

"I see." After Quentin spoke, the room fell into silence.

'Quentin wouldn't reject me, would he?' Lauren thought, starting to worry. "After all, I was the one who poached Gregory. This might not be good."

"Don't you ask me first?" Quentin looked at Lauren coldly.

Lauren took a deep breath and pretended to be calm. "Hiring someone is a small matter. Why bother you with it?"

"So, we will be colleagues from now on?" Odette was delighted. "I also work under Lauren. We'll be looking out for each other."

Gregory nodded. "We must support each other."

Gregory looked at Quentin. "I hope Mr. Robinson won't let personal feelings interfere with business."

Quentin poured himself a drink. "I think you're overthinking it."

"Then I'll be counting on you, Mr. Robinson." Gregory raised his glass to Quentin.

"You're welcome." Quentin said.

Seeing them clink glasses, Lauren finally felt relieved.

After dinner, Lauren and Odette went to clean the kitchen, leaving Quentin and Gregory in the living room.

"I don't think I said the contract signing was yesterday," Quentin directly exposed Gregory's lie.

Gregory laughed openly. "Oops, caught."

"So you approached Lauren on purpose. What's your goal?" Quentin's tone was forceful, demanding Gregory to explain himself.

"You know the answer very well, don't you?" Gregory continued. "I've liked Lauren since college, and that hasn't changed over the years. I've heard your relationship isn't good, and today confirmed it. Mr. Robinson, you really are quite the charmer."

Hearing Gregory's mockery, Quentin was slightly angered.

"It's not your business." Quentin stood up. "If you dare to make a move on Lauren, I won't let you off. I let you work at the company because I don't see you as a rival. After all, our abilities are worlds apart. You'll never be my match."

Usually calm, Gregory finally lost his temper after hearing Quentin's words.

Gregory tried to control himself and forced a smile. "Then let's see, Mr. Robinson. But I do feel sorry for Lauren. You bring other women home but don't allow her to have new male friends."

After speaking, Gregory looked towards the kitchen, where Lauren and Odette were cleaning without a word.

"Enough, I'm leaving. Take care, Mr. Robinson." Gregory waved at Quentin and prepared to leave.

"Are you leaving?" Lauren quickly wiped her hands. "I'll see you out."

"Can't he walk out on his own?" Quentin questioned Lauren harshly, seeing her concern for Gregory.

Lauren was stunned and softly said to Gregory, "Safe travels. See you at the company tomorrow."

Seeing Gregory about to leave, Odette quickly called out to him. "Wait, let's go together."

"I thought you were staying here tonight?" Gregory said, looking at Quentin with interest.

"Are you kidding?" Odette laughed. "Let's go."

With that, Gregory and Odette left Quentin's house.

Just after stepping out, Odette suddenly stopped.

"What's wrong?" Gregory turned back to ask.

"Do you really like Lauren?" Odette asked.

Hearing Odette's question, Gregory retorted, "Do you really like Quentin?"

"Yes," Odette answered without hesitation. "I fell in love with him the first time I saw him."

Odette said to Gregory, "Since that's the case, why don't we each get what we want?"

"What do you mean?" Gregory actually understood but pretended not to.

"Maybe we can..." Odette said.

Before Odette could finish, Gregory interrupted her. "I don't stoop to scheming. I want Lauren to genuinely, wholeheartedly fall in love with me."

With that, Gregory got into his car without waiting for Odette's response.
