Chapter 94 Another Scheme
Wendy cast a venomous glance at Quentin, but soon her eyes turned innocent and aggrieved. "Fine, Quentin, I'll agree to whatever you say. So, can you give me back the endorsement project for the Robinson Conglomerate's new product?" Wendy finally conceded, no longer arrogantly believing she was the center of the world.
Wendy now wanted to reclaim what was originally hers.
Quentin's eyes were sharp, and he looked at Wendy with disdain. "Haven't you been following the latest entertainment news? I've already found someone more suitable to replace you. Also, you promised to explain to Lauren last time. I think it's time you fulfilled your promise. Otherwise, I will take away not just the project but much more."
Wendy bit her lower lip upon hearing Quentin's words. "Lauren is just an ordinary person. How can she replace me as the product's spokesperson?"
"An ordinary person? Do you think my wife would be an ordinary person?" Quentin interrupted Wendy with a laugh.
Wendy felt an unprecedented sense of insult. "Quentin, are you planning to announce her identity to everyone officially?"
She was incredulous, but Quentin had indeed seemed like a changed man recently. He no longer indulged in nightlife, no longer flirted with other women, and behaved as if he truly loved his wife.
"That shouldn't concern you. I hope you explain everything clearly. I don't want Lauren to feel uncomfortable in any way," Quentin was colder than ever.
When Quentin was ruthless, no one could match him. He had completely moved on from the shadow of his first love because he now had more important people and things to protect.
"Fine, very well. Then I wish you both happiness," Wendy said with an exaggerated laugh.
But as she turned away, her face twisted into a terrifying expression. "Lauren! It's always Lauren! If I can't have it, I'll destroy it rather than let you have it! Do you want happiness? Then I'll ruin your happiness!"
Wendy left the Robinson Conglomerate and drove straight to the neighborhood where Lauren rented an apartment. She had been having Lauren watched, so she knew where Lauren lived.
Lauren was at home learning to cook when a loud knock on the door startled her. She walked over to open it, only to see someone she didn't want to see.
"Hello, Lauren. Can I come in? I have something to say to you." Wendy's attitude was still decent. Lauren stepped aside and let Wendy in.
Seeing Wendy's disheveled state and smudged makeup, Lauren poured a cup of hot water and placed it in front of Wendy.
"Thank you." Wendy was brewing her emotions. Once Lauren sat down, Wendy knelt before her. "Lauren, I beg you, please spare my child."
Wendy was indeed a master actress. Her tears flowed instantly, making her look like someone on the verge of collapse.
Lauren, unprepared for Wendy's outburst, was at a loss. "What's wrong with you? If you have something to say, get up and say it. Don't do this!"
With her hair in disarray, Wendy continued to sob. "I promise to step out of your relationship with Quentin, but I just want to keep this child. I can lose everything, but I can't lose my child."
Lauren was utterly confused. Who wanted to harm her child? Was Wendy even pregnant?
"Speak clearly. I can't understand you when you talk like this. No one will harm you, and no one will harm your child. Can you be more rational?" Lauren said.
Hearing Lauren's words, Wendy stood up, following her lead.
"Lauren, I apologize for my previous rude behavior. But I truly love Quentin. I didn't know you were also pregnant, which is why I was so overbearing. But now, Quentin, to avoid upsetting his grandmother and to preserve the marriage she arranged, wants to abandon me and force me to abort the child!" Wendy began to cry again, wiping her tears haphazardly with her hands while secretly observing Lauren's reaction.
Wendy was too cunning. She used this tactic to make Lauren believe in her pregnancy scheme, thereby creating a rift between Lauren and Quentin.
Lauren understood Wendy's words and felt as if her world was collapsing. Wendy was indeed pregnant, which meant Quentin had been lying to her. He had said Wendy's pregnancy was fake and asked her to give him time to handle it. It turned out that giving him time meant he was forcing Wendy to abort the child.
Did a child's place in Quentin's heart mean so little? Could he discard it so easily? What did he take life for? What did he take women for?
Lauren felt deeply disappointed. She realized how foolish she had been to harbor any illusions about such a cold and ruthless man as Quentin. If she hadn't married him, would she have been the one forced to abort the child?
Seeing Lauren's heartbroken expression, Wendy knew her scheme had succeeded. But she wanted to push further. This time, she would show no mercy.
"Lauren, you are about to become a mother too. You should understand how I feel right now. I'm really at my wit's end. You should know that I have always been the spokesperson for the Robinson Conglomerate's products, but Quentin canceled all my projects to force me to have an abortion. Now, I have no job and no love," Wendy said.
Hearing Wendy's words, Lauren felt some sympathy for her, and of course, she felt even more disappointed in Quentin. So, was this the reason for her product endorsement? She couldn't accept it.
Lauren's tears began to flow uncontrollably. Quentin's recent tenderness and care had been built on Wendy's suffering, and she would rather not have such warmth.
The room held two heartbroken women—Lauren was genuinely heartbroken, while Wendy was merely acting.
"Lauren, I can promise that if you help me keep my child, I will leave your world forever. I won't have any more illusions about Quentin. This child can be considered as someone else's. Please, I beg you to help me. I will definitely give up on Quentin!" Wendy cried out hoarsely, her performance flawless, though the only audience was Lauren.
Lauren wiped away her tears and smiled weakly, a smile devoid of strength. "Forget it. I don't want Quentin anymore. But whether your child can be kept is not up to me. Perhaps if I leave, Quentin won't force you anymore."
Wendy was delighted. She knew Lauren was easy to deceive, but she hadn't expected her to fall for it so easily.
"But if Quentin knows you left because of me, he won't let me off," Wendy said.
"Quentin and I are never meant to be together. I'll help you this once, Wendy. For the sake of your child, you must take care of yourself in the future." Lauren said, standing up from her seat.
Wendy's face showed a triumphant smile. She knew it was time to end her performance and leave.
"Lauren, this was all your choice. Don't blame me," Wendy said.
