Chapter 181 The Posture of Bowing
Noise buzzed from Quentin's side, hinting he wasn't alone.
Lauren swallowed hard. "Am I disturbing you?"
"No, go ahead. What's up?" Quentin replied.
He exhaled deeply. Talking to Lauren always calmed him, even if now wasn't the best time for it.
Without hesitation, Lauren asked, "You told the reporters at my place there'd be a press conference this afternoon. Should I be there too?"
After a pause, Quentin said, "No need."
Lauren felt uneasy. "Quentin, I'm part of this too. If you need me, I'll be there."
"No, I got this. Stay home and look after Matthew," Quentin insisted.
"Okay." Lauren hung up, still confused. She trusted him but couldn't shake the feeling something was off.
As Quentin ended the call, Noah approached. "Was that Lauren?"
Quentin shook his head. "No. Let's keep going."
Noah looked serious. "Listen, we can't have the press conference today. Public opinion's all over the place, and we can't control it. What can you even say?"
Quentin frowned. "I can't hide."
"Don't be stubborn. A press conference now is pointless and might backfire," Noah said, frustrated.
Quentin's face was unreadable. "I can't back out. I need to face this, even if it's tough. I'll apologize to those who trusted me."
Noah sighed. Apologies wouldn't be enough for some people. He couldn't understand Quentin's determination.
At 4 PM, the press conference kicked off. As expected, some hostile reporters were there. Noah wanted to stop Quentin but saw he was set on going through with it.
Before it started, Noah quickly called Lauren. He feared things might spiral out of control and hoped she could pull Quentin out of the mess.
Lauren, already worried, rushed to Robinson Conglomerate. Her phone rang, and seeing it was Noah, she answered quickly, "Hello, Mr. Martin."
Noah sounded urgent. "Lauren, sorry, I got your number from Quentin. You need to get to the press conference now. Only you can talk sense into him."
Lauren's heart raced. "What's happening? Is he okay?"
"This press conference is a disaster waiting to happen. Some reporters are out to get him. It's too chaotic. He can't handle this alone," Noah explained, detailing Quentin's plan to apologize.
After listening carefully, Lauren calmly said, "Mr. Martin, I support Quentin."
"What? Are you both crazy?" Noah was stunned.
Lauren smiled slightly. "We should trust his choice. Besides, we deserve criticism and punishment for our mistakes. No matter how serious things get, I'll face it with him."
Lauren ended the call. Quentin had told her everything was fine, wanting to face all the difficulties alone.
"Quentin, what do you take me for? Why can't we face the difficulties together? You underestimate me," Lauren chuckled to herself.
Noah was furious, believing that Lauren's stubbornness prevented her from understanding his good intentions. But while he was angry, he was more worried about whether Quentin could safely get through this storm. He prayed in his heart.
The press conference began. As expected, the malicious reporters started asking difficult questions right away.
"Mr. Robinson, it's said online that your divorce certificate with Lauren is real. Do you have any explanation for this?" a reporter asked.
Quentin's cold eyes looked towards the reporter. "Lauren and I are indeed divorced. I'm sorry for deceiving everyone."
Quentin's words were like a bomb exploding. People were surprised that Quentin admitted it so straightforwardly and that the usually proud and cold Quentin would admit his mistake.
"Mr. Robinson, you deceived everyone for your own benefit. Is this the behavior of a qualified entrepreneur?"
The room fell silent, everyone waiting for Quentin's response. Unexpectedly, Quentin stood up, walked to the center of the stage, and bowed deeply to the reporters.
"I'm sorry. Even if I say I didn't do anything for profit, no one will believe me. There are more reasons for my divorce from Lauren that I can't share. I'm very sorry!" Quentin said and bowed deeply again.
Some neutral reporters seemed to believe Quentin, but the malicious ones wouldn't let it go.
"Mr. Robinson, do you think a few apologies can erase the fact that you played us? If we don't get rid of heartless entrepreneurs like you, the world won't be at peace."
After that, several reporters started shouting to remove Quentin from his position as president of Robinson Conglomerate.
People tend to follow the crowd, especially under such public opinion. The influence of those with ulterior motives grew, leading all the reporters to start cursing together.
Lauren arrived at the scene. Seeing Quentin, who always stood tall and cold, bowing and facing the questions and insults, she felt heartbroken.
Without thinking, Lauren rushed up. No matter what, she had only one thought, 'I'll face everything with him, even if it means being attacked by everyone.'
