Chapter 117 Resolving Misunderstandings
Quentin knew he had gone too far with his words and regretted making such a joke.
"I am hungry and would like an apple," Quentin said, looking at the table and addressing Lauren.
Lauren quickly wiped away her tears, picked up an apple, and began to wash it, then carefully peeled it, striving to serve Quentin.
Since Ethan had entered the hospital room, Lauren had been solely focused on Quentin, with no room for anyone else. Ethan knew it was time for him to leave.
Ethan cast a complex glance at Quentin, even wishing for a moment that he was the one lying there.
On second thought, Ethan smiled weakly. 'Even if I were the one lying there, Lauren could never treat me the way she treats Quentin. Lauren's love for Quentin is unconscious, uncontrollable, like the natural act of breathing.'
"Lauren, if you ever encounter any difficulties, don't forget you still have me," Ethan said with a sunny, relieved smile.
Before Lauren could respond, Quentin interjected, "I don't think she will need to. I can solve all her problems. But, thank you, Mr. White."
Quentin's attitude was so consistently unfriendly that Ethan was not surprised.
Lauren gave Ethan an awkward smile. "Ethan, don't mind him. Rest assured. If I need help, I will definitely trouble you."
Ethan nodded and turned to leave. "Then I will leave."
Lauren followed Ethan to the door and said apologetically, "I'm sorry, Ethan. I can only see you off here. I don't feel comfortable leaving him alone."
"It's alright. Seeing you safe puts my mind at ease," Ethan said, looking deeply at Lauren. Perhaps he would never need to appear by her side again.
Lauren felt Ethan's gaze was filled with sorrow, but she could not find the words to say, only standing there and watching him walk out of sight step by step.
Returning to the hospital room, Quentin, lying in bed, kept eyeing the apple.
"Has he left?" Quentin asked.
"Yes," Lauren replied, a bit annoyed because Quentin wasn't very respectful of Ethan.
After all, Ethan was her friend. Quentin's behavior was highly disrespectful.
"I want to eat the apple," Quentin said, glancing at the apple and then at his bandaged left arm, making his meaning clear.
"Your left hand is injured, but your right hand is fine. Pick it up and eat it!" Lauren glared at Quentin. He wasn't disabled. Did he really need someone to feed him an apple?
"I'm used to using my left hand. My right hand is useless," Quentin said.
Lauren felt utterly helpless hearing Quentin's words. Yes, although Mr. Robinson was indeed left-handed, he could manage to eat an apple with his right hand.
Seeing Quentin's determined look, Lauren gave in.
"Fine, I'll cut the apple and put it on a plate for you. Is it okay?" With that, Lauren got up to cut the apple. Quentin looked at Lauren with love. She didn't know that he felt very happy at that moment.
The next day, the police came to the hospital to inquire about Wendy's incident with Quentin and Lauren.
Since Quentin was the victim in this case and was seriously injured, and Lauren was pregnant, the police did not require them to go to the police station.
"Hello, Mr. Robinson and Miss Walker. We're just here to ask a few questions, so please don't be nervous," Officer Petrov said, noticing Lauren's anxious look and trying to reassure her.
Lauren hadn't expected her first conversation with the police to be under such circumstances. Although she wasn't the one who committed the crime, she couldn't help but stand at attention when she saw the officer.
Quentin squeezed Lauren's hand. His warm palm enveloped her cold, small hand, and the warmth spread through her body, giving her a sense of confidence.
"Please go ahead with your questions," Quentin said.
"Yesterday, the forensic expert confirmed that Mr. Robinson's injuries were indeed caused by Wendy throwing acid. The wounds are quite severe. So, we're here to ask about Wendy's motive to help us proceed with the prosecution."
Hearing the officer's question, Lauren, though embarrassed, recounted the entire sequence of events to the police.
Officer Petrov took detailed notes of everything Lauren said. Suddenly, Quentin spoke up.
"Officer Petrov, Wendy not only intentionally harmed Lauren but also kidnapped her once. I have collected complete evidence of her kidnapping of Lauren. I will have my secretary send it to you," Quentin added.
Lauren was utterly shocked. She vividly remembered the kidnapping incident. Although knowing Wendy was behind it, Lauren hadn't told anyone. How did Quentin know?
Officer Petrov was also taken aback. "I didn't expect Wendy to have done so many bad things. Please send me those documents as soon as possible."
Quentin nodded. His eyes revealed a coldness that made Lauren feel he was still the same brooding Quentin from before.
After the police left, Lauren voiced her doubts, "Quentin, how do you know about Wendy kidnapping me last time?"
Quentin smiled. He had thought they had missed their chance, so he didn't want to interfere in her life. Now that they had reconciled, he saw no reason to keep it a secret.
"Lauren, I took a great risk to save you last time. How could you be so ungrateful and forget your savior?" Quentin said.
Lauren was even more confused. "Did you save me? But I clearly saw only Ethan rushing in."
Quentin gently tapped her on the head. "Don't you know that what you see with your eyes isn't always the whole truth? Never mind, it doesn't matter. All I care about is your safety."
Lauren blushed. From Quentin's knowledge of Wendy's kidnapping, she could tell that he had always been watching over her.
Lauren couldn't help but feel moved. She had misunderstood him. She had always thought Quentin didn't love her, but now she realized he was the type to act rather than speak. His love had always surrounded her.
"Thank you, Quentin," Lauren said earnestly, looking at Quentin. She deeply regretted her past stubbornness.
They had missed out on so much because of her immaturity and willfulness, which had led to the breakdown of their marriage.
Quentin also felt Lauren's deep affection. However, both of them tacitly avoided mentioning remarriage.
He wanted to start over, to earnestly pursue Lauren and make her willingly become Mrs. Robinson again.
