Chapter 398 I Don't Care About You

"Lauren, what right do you have to call me a nobody? I'm the one your husband loves the most now!" Odette puffed out her chest, looking arrogant.

She believed that without Lauren, she would definitely succeed. So today, she was determined to drive Lauren away and not let her ruin her plans!

Lauren raised an eyebrow, thinking how foolish Odette was. She replied bluntly, "I can't believe Ms. Foster enjoys being the other woman so much. Knowing he's my husband, you still act so righteously. Impressive."

Odette's face turned ugly; she didn't expect Lauren to latch onto detail.

What was meant to mock Lauren ended up making Odette feel humiliated.

'Lauren is really hard to deal with!' Odette thought, becoming even more resolute in her decision.

As long as Lauren was around, Odette couldn't be at ease.

"Miss Walker, you have such a way with words. Too bad you can't even keep your own husband and have put Matthew in danger because of yourself!" Odette said, not thinking before she spoke, so she didn't feel guilty at all.

Hearing the last sentence, Lauren lost her composure. "What do you mean, Odette? Danger?"

"Of course! Did you think you could just walk away from Quentin without any consequences?" Odette's voice grew louder, as if that would give her more confidence.

Little did Lauren know, every word Odette said was a lie.

"What does Quentin want to do?" Lauren frowned deeply, never expecting Quentin to be so ruthless.

She was already prepared to leave, yet Quentin still wanted to eliminate her, and even worse, he wouldn't spare Matthew!

"What do you think? Who in City A doesn't know Quentin's methods?" Odette whispered in Lauren's ear, "Just a friendly reminder, get out while you can!"

"I don't think you're the type to give me a friendly reminder." Lauren sensed something was off.

Odette should be the one wishing for her death, even going as far as kidnapping her to make her leave Quentin.

Someone like Odette, being kind enough to remind her to leave quickly, didn't make sense to Lauren.

"What do you mean?" Odette, like a child caught in a lie, turned red and cursed, "Lauren, you really don't know what's good for you! If you don't believe me, fine, bitch! One day, I'll make you pay!"

Odette threw out those words and left. Lauren frowned, feeling increasingly uneasy. She quickly told Kimberly and Matthew to pack their things, and the three of them fled to Paris once again.

Every time Lauren fled abroad, it was because of Quentin. It had been true before, and it still was now.

It seemed she could only avoid Quentin this way, as no one knew what he might do to them.

If anyone could predict and hinder Quentin's actions, it would have been Jessica. Unfortunately, Jessica had passed away.

Without Jessica's protection, Lauren could only run far away, hoping never to see Quentin again.

That might be the best outcome for both her and Quentin.

"Mommy, aren't we going with Daddy?" Matthew asked, blinking his eyes that looked so much like Quentin's.

He was too young to understand the complexities of adult relationships; he only knew he wanted Quentin and Lauren to be together no matter where they went.

"Your Daddy has work and can't come with us," Lauren lied to Matthew. She couldn't bring herself to tell a child under ten that "your Daddy wants to get rid of you.", which would be too cruel.

"But I haven't seen Daddy for a long time. Doesn't he miss me?" Matthew's eyes reddened.

Lauren didn't know how to answer, and Kimberly wiped away tears secretly.

She once thought Quentin was the best for Lauren, but she was wrong again.

Quentin was worse than Ethan; at least Ethan wouldn't pose such a threat to Lauren.

Lauren bought a ticket for a noon flight to Paris early in the morning. By the time they packed and arrived at the airport, there was still over an hour before boarding.

While waiting, Lauren encountered an unexpected visitor.

"Why are you here, Gregory?" Lauren frowned, looking at Gregory with displeasure. She felt she was frowning more and more lately.

"Don't always look so grim! Smile more." Gregory's face wore his signature smile, which Lauren found somewhat glaring, though she couldn't see the malice behind it.

"I can't smile," Lauren muttered, almost to herself, then looked up at Gregory with a hint of hostility. "What do you want?"

"I'm here to congratulate you," Gregory said, clapping his hands. Then, under Lauren's puzzled gaze, he took out his phone and showed her today's trending news. "An explosion occurred at 32 West Street half an hour ago."

"32 West Street?" Lauren repeated the address, then suddenly realized it was Kimberly's store!

Lauren suddenly remembered what Odette had said to her in the morning.

Was this Quentin's doing?

Lauren's eyes widened, as if she had lost her soul, muttering repeatedly, "He really did it. He really wants to kill me."

Lauren collapsed to the ground. Kimberly looked over and was shocked, "Who could be so heartless! They even want to kill someone!"

Though she said that, Kimberly knew in her heart that there was a 90% chance Quentin was behind the explosion.

"Grandma, who wants to kill someone?" Little Matthew couldn't see what was on Gregory's phone screen.

Kimberly glanced at Lauren, unsure how to tell Matthew.

"Who did this?" Lauren asked with trembling lips. She already knew the answer but decided to hold onto a sliver of hope for Matthew's sake.

She wanted to hear an unfamiliar name, but she asked the wrong person.

Gregory feigned a troubled look, glancing at Matthew as if hesitating to speak.

"It's okay, go ahead," Lauren saw his hesitation and wanted to know the answer, even though Gregory's expression had already given it away.

"Alright," Gregory sighed, his eyes filled with sadness, as if he was pained by the "truth" and felt sorry for Lauren's plight. "It was Quentin."

This sentence shattered Lauren's hope, leaving her like a lonely boat facing the storm of truth.

"What happened to Daddy?" Matthew, not understanding what was going on, got excited upon hearing Quentin's name.

Because he hadn't seen Quentin for a long time.

Kimberly supported the unsteady Lauren, gritted her teeth, and said to Matthew, "Matthew, stop calling Quentin Daddy! That heartless man wants to..."

Kimberly couldn't continue, so Gregory took over. "Quentin wants to kill you, your mom, and your grandma."
