Chapter 418 Extracting the Truth

Seeing Lauren's disheveled appearance, Odette's mood soared, and Quentin's lack of rejection made her daydream.

It seemed Quentin truly liked her. Otherwise, what man would willingly take on such a burden?

Even though she wasn't pregnant.

"Really?"

Lauren tried to keep her voice steady, but holding back her tears had already drained all her energy.

"Well, I wish you both a lifetime of happiness," Lauren said.

When she married Quentin, she felt like a princess in a fairy tale.

But this was reality.

Quentin sensed Lauren's sadness, but he couldn't push away Odette to comfort Lauren.

That didn't mean he would let Odette off the hook.

Once he rescued Kimberly and Matthew, Odette would understand the consequences of angering and using Quentin.

"Thanks, Lauren!" Odette's voice was sickeningly sweet. She had never felt so triumphant in her life.

As long as Quentin was around, she felt the whole world revolved around her.

But it wasn't enough.

A glint of greed flashed in Odette's eyes. She wanted Lauren to disappear forever, preferably by her own hands.

With Quentin's support, she could get away with anything!

"Quentin, no matter what Odette does, you'll support me fully, right?"

Odette smiled at Quentin, but the smile didn't reach her eyes.

As long as Quentin agreed, she would find an opportunity to get rid of Lauren.

She wasn't a ruthless person, at least not in Quentin's eyes.

"Yeah." Quentin nodded.

He could see through Odette's intentions, but he wasn't worried about her having the chance.

Because he was Quentin, not some random guy on the street.

When it came to protecting Lauren, Quentin was second to none in City A.

Odette squinted and smiled.

She knew Quentin wouldn't refuse her.

"Quentin, do you have any more business with Lauren?" Odette asked.

She wanted to create the image of a well-mannered, understanding wife.

"No." Quentin glanced at Lauren, the desolation on her face causing him inner pain.

He would give Lauren an explanation, but not now.

Odette noticed Quentin's gaze and felt even more displeased with Lauren.

'Lauren, that wretched woman! I'm about to marry Quentin, and she dared to seduce him!' Odette thought.

Odette was even more determined to eliminate Lauren, but she couldn't show it on her face.

She used to act recklessly, but now, before marrying Quentin, she couldn't make any rash moves.

After all, whether she and Quentin could get married depended entirely on Quentin's will. A wedding that all women envied was just a matter of Quentin's word.

So she had to please Quentin.

"Quentin, if you have no business, how about we go on a date?" Odette said, clinging to Quentin's hand and acting coy.

"Okay," Quentin responded.

His gaze remained on Lauren, and Odette saw Lauren's reflection in Quentin's eyes, secretly gritting her teeth.

After Quentin and Odette left, Lauren returned to her previous life of captivity.

But this time, Quentin wouldn't come to keep her company at night.

Lauren's mouth curled into a self-mocking smile.

What a joke. It was just Quentin's lie, and she foolishly believed it, even thinking Quentin had feelings for her.

Maybe Lauren and Quentin's closeness was just an absurd scam, a cruel joke played by a mischievous god.

And she had given so much of her heart and youth for this joke.

Lauren laughed, her tears falling with her laughter, hitting the floor with a mournful sound.

"Quentin, where are we going?" Odette leaned against the car window, watching the changing scenery outside, curious.

She hadn't been back to City A for a long time, and the changes made her sigh.

"The bar," Quentin replied.

He was as terse as ever, his tone carrying annoyance, though it was drowned out by the wind outside.

Odette was about to say she wanted to go to the bar too, but then she remembered something.

Could a pregnant woman drink?

Odette was glad her mind worked quickly, or she would have exposed herself.

"Quentin, I'm pregnant," Odette said, blinking her eyes, reminding him.

"Then let's go home," Quentin said.

Quentin didn't care about Odette's words.

The fate of the child in her belly was irrelevant to him. If it were before, he would have actively kept Odette away from alcohol, but not anymore.

Because he had seen Odette's true colors, and because Odette had repeatedly hurt Lauren.

Quentin's words sounded a warning bell for Odette.

It was rare to have Quentin accompany her on a date. If she didn't cooperate, wouldn't she be pushing Quentin away?

That wasn't the outcome Odette wanted.

"Quentin, let's go," Odette said.

Not to mention that she wasn't pregnant, even if she were, she would agree with Quentin.

She had given her first time to Declan; she didn't want to bear Declan's child!

And if she could get Quentin drunk, she might have a chance to get him into bed.

Unfortunately, after a few drinks, it was Odette who ended up drunk.

"Quentin, let me tell you, it's all Gregory's fault! He set me up! We agreed to act together, but he left me alone to kidnap Lauren!" Drunk Odette started to babble.

"Luckily, I ran fast, or you'd have to visit me in jail, Quentin!"

Quentin took out his phone, turned on the recording function, and put it back in his pocket.

"What about that photo?" Quentin asked.

He had brought Odette to the bar to get her drunk and find out the truth.

"Speaking of that, I can't help but laugh, Quentin!"

Odette was completely unguarded with Quentin. She wasn't good at thinking, and now she spoke without a filter.

"Gregory tried to assault Lauren but failed. She bit him, broke his phone, and he used my phone to take a misleading photo and sent it to you!"

Quentin's brow furrowed.

Since Lauren hadn't given in to Gregory, why did she distance herself from him?

He voiced his doubt, and Odette paused, perhaps thinking of that scandalous photo.

She covered her face with her hand, shyly revealing the truth.

"That was my doing! I photoshopped a picture of us in bed and showed it to Lauren!"
