Chapter 315 The Kidnapper

Now, Quentin was dead sure that Matthew and Lauren were in Brent's clutches. Grinding his teeth, he snapped, "What do you want?"

Brent stopped laughing and shot back sarcastically, "Get to my place by 2 PM, or you might never see your ex-wife and kid again."

He hung up right after, then turned to Lauren, who was tied up but surprisingly calm. With a smirk, he said, "Gotta hand it to you. You're one cool customer. No wonder Quentin can't get over you."

Lauren stared back at him, stone-faced. Earlier, she had left the hotel with Matthew, grabbed a cab, and was on her way to drop him off at kindergarten. Out of nowhere, a bunch of sketchy cars surrounded them. A few big guys got out, and Lauren, knowing better than to fight, went along quietly.

It wasn't until they got out of the car that she realized Brent had nabbed her and Matthew.

Lauren didn't flinch at Brent's words. She calmly stated, "I've divorced him and I'm raising the kid alone. Using us to threaten him won't work. Don't you know today is his engagement day with someone else?"

Brent chuckled, "Oh, I know. I even sent a few guys to crash his engagement. They just happened to bump into you. I was thinking of giving him a big surprise but didn't know what. And here you are, gift-wrapped. Don't blame me for not being a gentleman!"

As he spoke, he grabbed Lauren's face, leering at her.

Lauren jerked her head away, breaking free from his grip. "Mr. Reynolds, I have nothing to do with Quentin. Settle your score with him. Leave me out of it, okay?"

It wasn't that Lauren didn't want to share Quentin's troubles or that she was trying to bail. She just needed to protect Matthew and distance herself from Quentin.

Brent's smile vanished at her words. He squinted, staring hard at her. "Everyone says Quentin's ex-wife is tough. Now I see why. Lauren, you're something else. Quentin sure knows how to pick 'em."

Lauren was freaking out inside but kept her cool, hoping Brent would see her as a nobody and let Matthew go.

"Mr. Reynolds, even if you kidnap us, it won't faze him. I'm just a single mom. Quentin hasn't cared about us for years. We're nothing to him. Please, don't waste your time on us," Lauren pleaded, hoping Brent would buy her story.

But Brent, a seasoned player in both business and the underworld, wasn't about to let go of his carefully chosen hostages just because of a few words.

Brent looked down at Lauren with a twisted grin. "You think I'm some kind of idiot? That kid is Quentin's flesh and blood. You really think he wouldn't care about his own son? Don't be so naive, Lauren. Today, I'm gonna make Quentin choose: you or his revenge against me!"

Lauren couldn't keep her cool anymore. "You're a grown man. Why drag a kid into this? If you want to hurt someone, hurt me."

Brent slapped her hard across the face. "You think you can negotiate with me? If it weren't for Quentin, my brother wouldn't be on the run, my business would be thriving, and I wouldn't be tangled up with the mafia! You all are living it up while I'm suffering. Why? I want to know why you get to enjoy everything!" Brent roared, looking like a madman.

Matthew cried out in fear, calling for Quentin to save him.

Lauren's heart broke as she looked at Matthew's terrified face. She felt utterly helpless. No matter what she said, Brent wasn't going to let them go.

Would Quentin really come to save them? Would he really leave his beautiful fiancée Sophia and risk his life to come here?

Lauren was torn. She didn't know if she wanted Quentin to come or not.

If Quentin came, there was hope for Matthew. But if he did, would he be able to get out alive?

On the other side, Quentin was seething. Brent's words had pushed him over the edge. He regretted ever sparing Brent's life. In his rage, he stormed to the door, completely forgetting Sophia was still there.

Sophia had no idea what was going on. She could see Quentin was furious, like he had a score to settle.

Seeing Quentin about to leave without a word, Sophia couldn't stand it. If he left now, their engagement would be ruined. She couldn't let that happen.

"Quentin! Quentin! Wait! What's going on? Where are you going?" Sophia ran to him, grabbing his sleeve to stop him.

Quentin was in a rush. He looked at Sophia coldly and said, "Something happened to Matthew. I have to go save him. Sorry, Sophia, but our engagement is off for today."

"Quentin!"

Before Sophia could ask what was happening, Quentin was already gone.

In the big lounge, Sophia was left alone. She was both angry and hurt. It was almost funny how little Quentin cared about her. He had just abandoned her, leaving their engagement in shambles.

Humiliated, tears streamed down her face, ruining her makeup and staining her beautiful white dress. She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, blood dripping down her arms.

'Quentin, how could you do this to me?' She thought, her mind racing with a mix of sorrow and rage.
