Chapter 156 The Resolute Apology
Quentin invited Sophia over for a reason. She begged him to see Jessica. However, Quentin believed in moving on from the past. Sophia's betrayal no longer bothered him. He neither loved nor hated her.
But why was Jessica's attitude so tough? In his memory, Jessica had always loved Sophia. She shouldn't be so heartless.
"No." Jessica said angrily as she forcefully slapped her wheelchair. "Quentin, you don't seem righteous by doing what you're doing. Tell you, just be loyal to your wife. No one else needs you to do this. Since you know why Lauren left, how dare you bring Sophia back? Are you really not planning to win Lauren back?"
"No, Grandma, that's not what I mean at all. These two things are unrelated and shouldn't be mixed up. I'll explain everything to Lauren. I definitely won't let her leave. As for Sophia, I think we should let go of our grudges," Quentin said painfully.
He thought, 'Do I really have to keep seeing Sophia as an enemy? It will make my life miserable, too.'
Jessica was extremely disappointed in Quentin. She demanded, "Go find Lauren right now. I won't see you again, and you shouldn't return to the ancestral house if you don't bring her back! Leave!"
Jessica was very emotional. Quentin felt heartbroken and sad.
He thought, 'Why have things turned out this way? Have I really made a mistake?'
Lauren had been away from the Robinson family for some time now. Quentin missed her and Matthew day and night.
Jessica's scolding made him realize that what he needed to do most was to bring Lauren back and explain everything to her properly.
Quentin went to Ethan's house and bought a lot of baby stuff and supplements. Ethan had previously instructed the servants not to allow Quentin in.
Lauren was holding Matthew on the second-floor balcony, enjoying the sun. When she saw Quentin at the villa gate arguing with the butler, she froze, not knowing what to do.
She tried to gather her thoughts. The difficulties she had to face sooner or later. Although she avoided Quentin's entanglement this time, he would come just again next time.
Lauren handed Matthew to the nanny and then went downstairs. She instructed, "Please let Quentin in."
Quentin was delighted to hear Lauren's voice. As the butler let him in, he quickly approached Lauren.
"Lauren, how are you?" Quentin couldn't hide his excitement as eh greeted her. He thought seeing Lauren was a good start.
Lauren looked at Quentin coldly and said, "What do you want? Can you stop bothering me?"
Lauren's icy attitude stung Quentin's eyes. So, her anger hadn't dissipated.
"Lauren, I didn't explain clearly that day. Today, I want to explain everything properly. Please give me a chance to explain, okay?" He pleaded. Quentin looked at Lauren earnestly, hoping she would agree.
She replied coldly, "Have you come up with another explanation these days? Do you still want to deceive me? Quentin, I'm no longer the fool who saw you as my entire world. Tell you one more time, we're completely over. We've already divorced. Do you have anything else to say? If not, please leave."
Lauren's heart was dead. She wouldn't give Quentin another chance to hurt her.
"Whether you believe it or not, Sophia and I are innocent. I hope you can calm down and think about our sweet times together. Can you really bear to let Matthew grow up without a father?" Quentin's voice trembled.
Despite knowing Lauren would leave, he was terrified this time.
She calmly said, "You have no right to mention Matthew." Lauren was cold as ice.
Mentioning Matthew touched her vulnerabilities, but he was the most important person in her heart.
Quentin clenched his fists and then released them powerlessly. Indeed, he hadn't fulfilled any responsibility towards Matthew. He wasn't worthy of mentioning him.
Lauren coldly remarked, "Quentin, let go. I'm already with Ethan so that you can reunite with Sophia with a clear conscience. I hope we never see each other again. Not disturbing each other is the last respect we can give each other."
Lauren turned around, a tear falling. She swore this would be the last time she cried for Quentin.
"I understand," Quentin helplessly replied then laughed mockingly, a pale and powerless laugh. Finally, he turned and left in desolation.
That evening, when Ethan returned and heard the servants talking about what had happened during the day, he thought for a moment and then knocked on Lauren's door.
Lauren had returned to normal. She smiled at Ethan and said, "Are you done with work?"
Ethan looked at Lauren indulgently. He asked gently, "Yes, is Matthew asleep? Was he good today?"
She assured him, "He was good. We're all fine. Don't worry." Lauren glanced at the still-sleeping Matthew on the bed, her eyes gentle.
"Since Matthew is asleep, Lauren, let's talk," Ethan said.
Lauren's smile slowly disappeared. She could guess what Ethan wanted to talk about. She resisted internally, but she still followed Ethan downstairs, asking the nanny to look after Matthew.
After a while, Ethan spoke, "I heard Quentin came by today. Did he want you to go back?"
Lauren nodded in acknowledgment. She calmly explained, "Yes, he suddenly wanted to reconcile, but I won't be foolish again. I deliberately said I was with you to drive him away. Now that I think about it, he wouldn't make things difficult for the White Group in the business world, right?"
She was a bit scared. The Robinson Conglomerate's influence was enormous, and if Quentin wanted to target someone, the consequences would be terrifying.
She regretted using Ethan as a shield.
Unexpectedly, Ethan smiled meaningfully. "Lauren, I'm glad you said that. Although Quentin deliberately makes things difficult for me, I'm willing. So, can you consider accepting me?" he asked.
Ethan looked at Lauren very seriously, but Lauren's face remained pale, with an added touch of awkwardness.
The atmosphere made Ethan a bit worried. "Matthew also needs a father to love him. I genuinely like Matthew, and I truly love you, Lauren. Can you give me a chance? Can we try?" he asked, desperately.
Facing Ethan's tenderness, Lauren couldn't refuse, but she felt it was wrong because she still had Quentin in her heart.
"Ethan, I think it would be unfair to you if I agreed now. You deserve better, and now really isn't the right time. Give me some time to think about it, okay?" Lauren asked.
Lauren thought seriously, 'This time, I decided to consider the issue seriously.'
She had always known Ethan's sincerity. 'Maybe I should really consider it. Maybe Ethan is the right choice for me,' she thought.
