Chapter 367 Conversation
This was clearly supposed to be their first meeting.
Thinking of this, Lauren asked, "How did you know?"
Gregory didn't seem too surprised by Lauren's question, as if he had anticipated it.
There was a hint of pride in Gregory's eyes, making Lauren wonder if he had said those words on purpose for her to hear.
"Understanding the client's needs is what we should do." Gregory quickly paid the bill and gestured for Lauren to follow him to a seat by the window.
"Otherwise, how can we make a good first impression?" Gregory playfully winked at Lauren.
Gregory was quite handsome.
The warm winter sunlight made Lauren momentarily captivated by Gregory's appearance.
'He really does look a bit like Quentin,' Lauren thought, swearing it wasn't because she missed Quentin. 'I must introduce them someday; Quentin would definitely think so too.'
Lauren didn't believe Gregory's explanation.
"No," Lauren shook her head, "You came here to find Quentin, not me. If you were to understand someone in advance, it should be Quentin."
"Lauren, you are really smart." Gregory's lips curled into a meaningful smile. "Actually, I came here specifically for you."
"For me?" Lauren couldn't believe Gregory's words. This was their first meeting; how could Gregory have come just for her?
"Don't joke with me." Lauren picked up the coffee on the table and took a sip.
She was just a director in the design department; for business deals, Gregory should be looking for Quentin.
Seeing that Lauren didn't believe him, Gregory continued, "Actually, we met a long time ago."
Gregory thought for a moment, as if recalling something, "About ten years ago, we were at the same university."
"Really?" Lauren was delighted to hear that Gregory graduated from the same school, "That's such a coincidence."
"Yes." Seeing Lauren so happy, Gregory couldn't help but feel pleased too, "We weren't in the same department, but I saw you every morning reading on the field."
"How did I not know?" Lauren looked annoyed, "You never greeted me."
"Maybe you were too focused on your reading. You always do things so seriously." Gregory seemed relieved, "Even though we didn't talk, it was nice to be around each other from a distance. I was quite introverted back then, so I didn't dare to approach you."
How did she not notice that?
Lauren felt a bit regretful; they could have known each other earlier, but at least they had the chance now.
"I often saw you in the news, so I knew you were at Robinson Conglomerate and now Quentin's wife," Gregory continued, "But it seems your life hasn't been smooth."
This hit Lauren's heart, and she fell silent.
Yes, looking back at the past five years, her experiences could fill a novel.
"Are you happy now?" Gregory looked into Lauren's eyes and asked sincerely.
Facing Gregory's earnest gaze, Lauren felt a bit scared and deliberately avoided it.
It felt like Gregory could easily see through her lies, a feeling Lauren didn't want to experience.
Seeing Lauren's reluctance to answer, Gregory smiled and changed the topic, "Sorry. We just met, and I shouldn't ask so much."
"It's okay." Seeing Gregory feeling guilty, Lauren quickly waved her hand, "It's my own issue."
Lauren didn't continue the conversation.
"Alright, enough about that. Let me tell you about myself." Gregory gently patted Lauren's head, as if comforting her.
Strangely, Lauren didn't feel uncomfortable with Gregory's gesture; instead, she felt a sense of comfort and reassurance.
Her unsettled emotions were suddenly cared for, and Lauren felt a bit brighter.
"Sure." Lauren nodded happily.
Listening to Gregory, Lauren learned that he had also studied in Paris and even considered joining Robinson Conglomerate. But for various reasons, he ended up at the Cloud Group.
"That's strange," Lauren couldn't understand, "Someone as talented as you, why would Robinson Conglomerate reject you? And even if you joined the Cloud Group, you should be a director, not running errands."
Gregory showed the same puzzled expression, "Maybe there are too many talented people now, making me seem insignificant."
"That's definitely not the reason," Lauren replied firmly, "From our conversation, it's clear your artistic and financial knowledge far surpasses mine, maybe even comparable to Quentin."
"Do you really think so highly of me?" Gregory's emotions remained steady.
"Because we went to the same school," Lauren joked, then got serious, "Maybe you should consider joining Robinson Conglomerate. The opportunities are definitely better than at the Cloud Group."
Hearing this, Gregory paused as he was about to place his hand on the coffee cup.
"Is that possible?" Gregory asked tentatively, "After all, I was rejected once."
"That was their fault, not mine," Lauren said.
Lauren thought thatmaybe someone used connections to push Gregory out.
"Why don't you come directly to our design department? I'm the director now, though it might be a bit of a demotion for you." Lauren felt it would be fine even if Gregory's position was higher than hers.
"If that's the case, that would be great." Gregory's eyes sparkled slightly.
