Chapter 329 I Need You to Accompany Me
Meanwhile, Lauren typed out a message: [Are you feeling better?]
'No, that makes me seem too worried about Quentin,' Lauren thought, deleting the message.
"Why are you stressing out!" Lauren muttered to herself, "He's got his fiancée Sophia with him; she'll take care of him."
"Actually, it's not like that," Lauren reassured herself, "He helped me a lot; it's only fair to show some concern. Why do I feel so guilty?"
"Mommy, what are you doing?" Matthew gently wrapped his arms around Lauren's neck, his eyes on her phone screen.
Ever since they got back safely, Matthew had noticed something different about Lauren.
Lauren had been glued to her phone for the past few days like she was debating whether to contact someone.
Matthew quickly recognized the familiar phone number. Even though Lauren hadn't saved it with a name, Matthew knew it was Quentin's number right away.
Matthew thought, 'So Mommy is just too shy. I'll give her a hand.'
With a plan in mind, Matthew grabbed the phone while Lauren wasn't looking and quickly hit the call button.
"Matthew, you..." Lauren saw the call had already gone through, and her face turned bright red.
What was she supposed to say if Quentin answered?
Lauren got ready to hang up, thinking she could just say it was a mistake if Quentin asked later.
To her surprise, Quentin seemed to be waiting by the phone, answering almost immediately, "Is this Lauren?"
Hearing his familiar voice, Lauren's breathing got a bit faster.
"Yes," Lauren said softly.
"Is there something you need?" Quentin asked.
Hearing Quentin's question, Lauren suddenly felt like she was bothering him.
The words she had been holding in her heart for so long suddenly wouldn't come out.
"Nothing, just a simple greeting," Lauren paused for a moment, then continued, "Since you're fine, I'll hang up."
Just hearing his voice calmed Lauren's anxious heart significantly.
"Wait, I have something to say," Quentin quickly added, afraid Lauren would hang up before he finished.
For so many days, Quentin had been waiting for Lauren's call.
He wanted to know if Lauren had any feelings for him. Now that she had finally called, how could he let her hang up so easily?
"What's wrong? Did something happen again?" Lauren got nervous, worried that Brent's men might be causing trouble for Quentin.
"The wound from that day still hurts a lot. I got hurt because of you. Aren't you going to come see me?" Quentin missed Lauren so much.
Lauren thought for a long time before asking Quentin, "Where are you?"
Quentin answered, "I'm at home."
Hearing this, Lauren's feelings became complicated. She wondered worriedly, 'So, does that mean Sophia is there too?'
Quentin seemed to read Lauren's mind and almost commanded, "There's no one else at my place right now. I'm starving. Get over here quick, I'll give you twenty minutes. And remember, only you, not even Matthew."
With that, Quentin hung up.
'He is as bossy as ever,' Lauren thought.
Lauren looked at Matthew beside her and said, "I have to go out for a bit. Matthew, you need to be good and stay put."
"Okay," Matthew replied, being unusually well-behaved. "Mommy, go ahead. Take good care of Daddy. It's fine if you don't come back tonight."
Lauren gently tapped Matthew's head. "What are you thinking about?"
"I'm thinking about when Daddy and Mommy can make up," Matthew said.
That sentence made Lauren's heart ache. It was the thing that hurt her the most. At this point, she couldn't even figure out her own feelings.
"Forget it," Lauren shook her head. "If I can't figure it out, I won't think about it for now."
After giving Matthew some instructions on what to be careful about at home, Lauren headed to Quentin's house.
"You're ten minutes late," Quentin said as soon as Lauren walked in.
"Looks like you're in good spirits," Lauren replied, but she skillfully walked into the kitchen, getting ready to make dinner for Quentin.
The kitchen was arranged just as she remembered, set according to her habits.
Probably when Sophia was around, Quentin spoiled her and always had the housekeeper cook.
"By the way, why aren't any of the housekeepers here today?" Lauren had been puzzled since she entered The Robinson Mansion; even Robinson was nowhere to be seen.
Quentin sighed dramatically and said, "I dismissed them all. After all, I'm now a poor man who can't afford their wages. I'm no longer the richest man in City A, nor the president of Robinson Conglomerate."
"What do you mean by that?" Lauren was very surprised, putting down her work and running to Quentin to ask, "Didn't you transfer all the shares to Noah, and Brent is in jail? How could you be in this situation now? Are you lying to me?"
Lauren didn't want to believe Quentin's words. It was completely different from what she had seen in the reports. What was going on?
"That's right," Quentin sat down and explained calmly, "The shares were indeed transferred to Noah, that's why I have nothing now."
"I don't understand," Actually, Lauren understood what Quentin meant.
She couldn't fathom that Noah would betray Quentin. Their relationship had seemed so solid.
"It's all because of you. Noah resents me for loving you entirely and not giving Sophia any attention," Quentin looked at Lauren without any evasion. There was no resentment in his eyes, only an undeniable love.
