Chapter 144 The Day of Delivery

On the due date, Lauren's baby showed no signs of coming. Jessica, worried sick at the ancestral home, asked George to bring her over to the villa. When Lauren saw the frail Jessica coming to visit her, she felt quite embarrassed.

"Grandma, why did you come? You could wait at home. If anything happens, Quentin will definitely inform you right away," Lauren said, pushing Jessica's wheelchair, only to have Jessica grasp her hand.

"Lauren, don't be nervous or anxious. What is meant to come will come. Have you prepared everything needed for the delivery? This little one could come anytime. You have to be ready ahead of time." Jessica instructed.

Lauren smiled and nodded, feeling less nervous at this moment. "Don't worry, Grandma; we've prepared everything," Lauren said sweetly.

Jessica nodded and suddenly asked, "Where is Quentin? Why don't I see him at home?"

"He's in the study, handling some work," Lauren replied.

"It's your due date, and he's working? Housekeeper Robinson, call him down. He should not leave Lauren's side for a moment. He's really careless. How can he leave you alone?" Jessica was truly worried. Quentin was careless.

Lauren knew that Jessica was concerned for her. She didn't feel anything peculiar, so she didn't think it was urgent. Quentin was so nervous that he hid in the study under the pretense of work.

Quentin came downstairs and said, "Grandma, you can wait at home. I'm here with Lauren. You can rest assured."

"I'm not assured. Why are you still working? Lauren's childbirth is the most important thing. Nothing else matters. Now, stay with Lauren and don't leave her side. You don't know how painful and exhausting childbirth is. She needs your care now," Jessica admonished.

Quentin realized all these principles. Without saying much, he quietly walked to Lauren's side and sat down. The whole family sat quietly in the living room, waiting for Lauren's belly to show any signs. Lauren wanted to laugh but felt very happy. Everyone was filled with anticipation for this new life.

A day passed, but nothing happened. Lauren scratched her head in embarrassment, feeling guilty for wasting everyone's time.

"It's okay. The due date isn't always accurate. Some babies come early, while some come late. It's all normal," Quentin comforted Lauren.

Lauren sighed deeply. "Yes, I know. I don't know what to do with myself."

"What you need to do now is relax. I'll take a walk with you later, and then we'll rest as usual," Quentin continued.

Jessica insisted on staying to accompany Lauren, and Quentin agreed. Completing Jessica's greatest concern made Lauren naturally very happy.

However, three days past the due date, there were still no signs of the baby's birth, and Quentin was getting anxious.

"Lauren, let's go for a check-up tomorrow," Quentin said with a very serious expression.

Lauren laughed lightly. "Is it really necessary? The doctor said it's usually fine as long as it's not more than a week."

"I can't wait any longer," Quentin said, feeling a bit frantic. The waiting was unbearable. He didn't want to endure it any longer.

Lauren patted Quentin's chest and said, "Don't worry, the baby is fine. He just kicked me a moment ago. Why don't you go and get some work done? I'll let you know if I feel anything uncomfortable."

Quentin gently held Lauren and said tenderly, "It's okay. Grandma said you're the most important right now. I need to take care of you first."

Lauren shyly leaned on Quentin's chest, listening to his heartbeat, which made her feel very calm.

"Honestly, I feel nothing right now. I still have a few days before giving birth. So, you can go upstairs and work, and I'll rest for a bit. Then I'll take a walk with Grandma."

Since Lauren said so, Quentin felt much more at ease. However, he couldn't help but feel restless, so he decided to follow Lauren's advice and find some work to keep himself busy, which might also help ease his mind.

Watching Quentin's retreating figure, Lauren smiled broadly. He was about to become a father. He must be very excited, right? She felt the same way.

After her nap, Lauren prepared to take Jessica to the garden to bask in the sun. Just then, Quentin hurriedly walked over.

"Lauren, how are you feeling?" Quentin asked.

Lauren was taken aback and answered without thinking, "I feel nothing. What's wrong?"

"Nothing. I have something urgent to attend to and might not be back until the evening. Will you be okay at home?" Quentin asked.

Jessica asked suspiciously, "What's so urgent? Lauren is about to give birth. Can't you stay home with her?"

"Sorry, Grandma, I'll be back soon," Quentin replied.

Lauren didn't mind. "It's okay. I feel fine. I probably won't give birth right now. If anything happens, I'll call you immediately. Go handle your business."

Touched by her understanding, Quentin gave her a grateful look before leaving.

"You're too good to him. You know men get spoiled, right?" Jessica said, feeling helpless with Lauren.

Lauren giggled, saying, "I know you're looking out for me, Grandma, but I think Quentin must have something urgent. Otherwise, he wouldn't be in such a hurry. Besides, I'm fine right now, so why keep him here to worry with me?"

Jessica shook her head helplessly. Lauren was just too soft-hearted.

By bedtime, Quentin still hadn't returned. Lauren checked her phone but found no messages from him. She thought about contacting him but decided against it.

She didn't want to break her promise. Since she let Quentin handle his business, she shouldn't rush him back.

Lauren fell asleep peacefully, but when she woke up again, she suddenly realized her water had broken.

She panicked, not knowing what to do. She didn't dare move because every time she did, the amniotic fluid gushed out.

She rushed to grab her phone to call Quentin, only to find that his phone was switched off. Lauren was extremely anxious and immediately called out for help.

Fortunately, Quentin had previously arranged for a nanny to stay at the house. Seeing the situation, the nanny quickly called Housekeeper Robinson, and they rushed Lauren to the hospital.
