Chapter 466 Being Used
After a week of working in the department, Lauren was gradually accepted by most of her colleagues. However, there was still one person who couldn't stand her, no matter what.
It was lunchtime in the employee cafeteria, and a few male colleagues were sitting together, eating.
Somehow, the conversation turned to Lauren.
"I thought Mrs. Robinson would be all stuck-up, but after working with her these past few days, she's actually pretty chill."
"Yeah, I feel the same way. Plus, she's really good at her job. The projects she's taken over have been handled really well."
"Honestly, I think Mrs. Robinson's designs are even better than Maeve's."
The person speaking glanced cautiously at Isaiah before continuing. Everyone in the company knew Isaiah had a special fondness for Maeve and wouldn't tolerate any negative comments about her.
Sure enough, as soon as the words were out, Isaiah slammed his utensils down onto his tray.
"What are you guys talking about? You can praise Mrs. Robinson all you want, but don't compare her to Maeve. Does she even deserve it? She only got in here because of connections."
One colleague, who didn't usually get along with Isaiah, couldn't hold back. "Isaiah, Mrs. Lauren Robinson has been in our design department for a week now, and you haven't given her a single friendly look. Has she ever said anything bad about you? Mr. Quentin Robinson hasn't come to trouble you either. This shows Mrs. Lauren Robinson hasn't been complaining about you behind your back. What more do you want?"
"What do I want?" Isaiah scoffed. "I just want her to give the position back to my goddess. Maeve deserves it. And as for complaining, does someone who got in through the back door even have the face to complain?"
Isaiah was visibly angry and decided to leave without finishing his meal. He picked up his tray and walked away.
After lunch, there was a short break. Isaiah didn't want to go back to the design department and see Lauren, so he went to a nearby coffee shop to relax. Unexpectedly, he ran into Maeve there.
Maeve seemed to be just grabbing a coffee and was about to leave. Isaiah didn't want to miss the chance and quickly got up to follow her.
"Maeve, is that you? Hi, I'm Isaiah, one of your fans. I can't believe I ran into you here."
"You're a fan of mine? Thank you for your support."
Maeve initially thought of him as just another fan, but when he mentioned he worked at Robinson Conglomerate, her expression changed.
"You work at Robinson Conglomerate's design department? That's a shame. We almost became colleagues."
Maeve looked regretful, making it seem like there was more to her dismissal from the company. Isaiah was easily misled by her demeanor.
"Maeve, be honest with me. Why were you suddenly let go? Did Lauren use her position as Mr. Robinson's wife to push you out?"
Seeing Isaiah so upset, Maeve was secretly pleased but kept a worried expression. "Shh, keep your voice down. We're still near Robinson Conglomerate. Don't say such things. If someone hears, it won't affect me, but it could ruin your career."
Isaiah was touched by Maeve's concern and immediately promised, "Don't worry, Maeve. If she really did that, I'll make sure to get justice for you."
Maeve sighed dramatically. "Forget it. You're just an employee under her. What can you do? Don't risk your future for me. I have to go now."
She didn't reveal what had actually happened in the meeting room but planted a seed in Isaiah's mind. She believed that when the time was right, Isaiah would act in her favor.
After the break, Isaiah returned to the company, still fuming over Maeve's words. The more he thought about it, the angrier he became.
Why did Lauren get to be the chief designer as soon as she arrived, while his goddess had struggled for years? It was so unfair.
He had to come up with a way to teach Lauren a lesson and stand up for Maeve.
Lauren had several design projects on her plate and couldn't finish them all alone. She had delegated two of them to other colleagues, and today was the final deadline.
"Zoey, have you finished the two design projects I assigned to you?"
"Ms. Walker, one is done, but the other one was given to Isaiah. He said he'd hand it in soon, but I don't know where he is now."
Lauren took the completed design from Zoey, glanced over it, and pointed out a few issues before handing it back. "Fix these problems and give it back to me before the end of the day. As for Isaiah, call him over."
"Okay, Ms. Walker."
Zoey left the office, regretting her decision to give such an important task to Isaiah, knowing he didn't like Lauren.
She finally found him in a nearby fire escape and called him to the office.
Lauren saw Isaiah enter and put down the design she was holding. "Did you finish the design project Zoey gave you?"
"No, I haven't. I've been feeling sick today, my head's all foggy. If you need it urgently, I'll try to finish it before the end of the day."
Isaiah had gone to the pharmacy to buy cold medicine to make his symptoms look real. Lauren couldn't see through his act.
"You're sick?" Lauren frowned. "Forget it. Give me the project, and I'll do it myself."
"Ms. Walker, it's my job. I should finish it." Isaiah pretended to refuse, knowing Lauren's personality well. The outcome was as he expected.
"I said no, and that's final. Since you're sick, go home and rest. You can come in late tomorrow morning."
Lauren rarely showed her tough side. She cared about all her employees, even those who didn't get along with her, like Isaiah.
Isaiah seemed grateful and smiled at her. "Thank you, Ms. Walker. I'll make sure to finish my work once I'm better."
"Alright, you can go now." Lauren waved him off, not taking his words seriously.
With Lauren's permission, Isaiah left the company early, walking out proudly under the envious eyes of his colleagues.
