Chapter 149 The Former First Love
With Ethan's comfort, Lauren finally calmed down. She would wait a little longer. Quentin may return soon.
Lauren was feeling very uneasy. She woke up from nightmares every day. In her dreams, Quentin was struggling, covered in blood, while she was powerless to help.
Lauren woke up startled and saw that it was already one o'clock. She had only been napping for less than half an hour.
She turned on the TV to distract herself to keep from dwelling on that terrible dream.
At that moment, Jessica wheeled herself into the room.
"Lauren, I heard some noise from your room, so I came over," she said.
Lauren forced a smile and looked at Jessica, saying, "Grandma, did you rest?"
Jessica had always had the habit of taking a nap, but ever since Quentin went missing, how could she sleep well?
"I did rest, but as people get older, they don't need to sleep as much. By the way, the nanny told me that the baby has adjusted quite well since coming home. Would you like to go see him with me?" Jessica suggested.
She didn't want Lauren to be alone. If one were alone for too long, one would overthink, just like Lauren did.
"Sure!" Lauren replied, then picked up the remote to turn off the TV.
At that moment, something on the TV caught Lauren's attention.
"It is reported that Quentin, the president of the Robinson Conglomerate, has a former girlfriend, Sophia Hall, who has suddenly returned to City A. She is about to take over as the president of Hall Corporation. The president of Hall Corporation has always been Sophia's brother, Edward. Why the sudden change to Sophia? The reasons behind this are worth pondering."
Lauren glanced at the television as Sophia's portrait was displayed. That very beautiful woman was Quentin's first love.
Sophia was so beautiful, looking pure and holy. Indeed, only Sophia could be liked by proud Quentin.
Lauren's heart suddenly ached. She looked at herself and felt that she was not on the same level as Sophia. But Lauren couldn't understand why Quentin chose her.
It was said that Wendy bore some resemblance to Sophia, but Wendy was only a slight shadow of Sophia.
Wendy couldn't compare to even a thousandth of Sophia.
Seeing Lauren in a daze, Jessica realized what Lauren was struggling with.
"Lauren, those are all things of the past. Don't think too much about it," Jessica said.
Lauren stared blankly at the TV and said, "Grandma, you must have liked Sophia very much back then, right?"
Jessica's expression turned stern. She said with disdain, "I did like her very much back then, but she is too scheming. She betrayed the Robinson family's kindness, so we have nothing to do with her anymore."
Jessica became upset when she remembered loving, nurturing, and raising Sophia like her own child.
But in the end, Sophia repaid kindness with ingratitude. She hurt Quentin and almost caused the Robinson Conglomerate to go bankrupt.
The more angry Jessica was now, the more it showed how disappointed and heartbroken she had been back then.
Lauren thought of the last sentence in the news. 'Did Sophia's return to City A have anything to do with Quentin? Would Sophia's return destroy her relationship with Quentin?' she wondered.
"Grandma, tell me about Sophia," Lauren said calmly.
She had heard Jessica mention Sophia before, But she did not give it much thought at that time, as she and Quentin had no future.
And now that Lauren had become the bona fide Mrs. Robinson, she had to analyze everything.
Jessica looked at Lauren's serious expression and knew that continuing to hide things from her was useless. Lauren's stubbornness was much like hers. Once she decided to do something, she wouldn't give up.
Jessica sighed. She began to recall, "It seems like a very long time ago, yet so much time has passed. Sophia came to our home when she was very young because her father suddenly passed away, and her stepmother threw her out. It was said that her mother was a mistress, so Sophia had no status at home. When her father passed, she lost her biggest support. We took her in because we felt sorry for her."
Recalling these long-buried memories, Jessica was deeply moved. At that time, she had always wanted a granddaughter. When Sophia came along, she thought it was a gift from God, but she hadn't anticipated what would happen later.
Jessica continued, "Sophia was smart and lovable, unlike the mischievous Quentin, who was always causing trouble. They got along so well that it was just a matter of time before they got together. Everyone thought they would smoothly walk into the wedding chapel, but then Sophia betrayed Quentin. To this day, I can't accept why she did that!"
As Jessica spoke, her breathing grew heavier. Her heart was ached!
Jessica thought, regretfully, 'The Sophia I have loved for over a decade, treated like my own granddaughter, had betrayed me and the Robinson family. I am truly resentful.'
Lauren quickly patted Jessica's back. She said apologetically, "Grandma, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked you about this. Please don't get upset. It's all in the past."
Jessica held Lauren's hand, her face serious. She advised her, "Lauren, trust Quentin."
Jessica reassured her, "Sophia is in the past for him. He has you now, and you have a child together. So, Sophia is ultimately a thing of the past. You must be well."
Faced with Jessica's earnest advice, Lauren naturally wouldn't refuse. She could guarantee her sincerity, but what about Quentin?
"Grandma, don't worry. As long as Quentin doesn't have her in his heart, as long as he chooses me, I will never let go," Lauren said with determined eyes. She was unwilling to let go!
Jessica finally smiled. She replied with relief, "Good child, it's been hard on you. Rest assured, Quentin and Sophia have no ties anymore. Whether she comes back or not has nothing to do with Quentin."
Lauren nodded. She also believed that Sophia's return was purely for Hall Corporation and had nothing to do with Quentin.
"Grandma, let's go see the baby together!" Lauren said as she pushed Jessica's wheelchair out of her room.
By this time, the baby had already woken up. Lauren took the child from the nanny and looked lovingly at the baby in her arms.
Lauren brought the baby in front of Jessica and said, "Grandma, look, he's awake. He's looking at me!"
Jessica touched the baby's cheek and said, "The baby is very smart. By the way, Lauren, have you thought about what to name the child?"
"I haven't thought about it yet. Besides, naming the baby isn't just up to me. Quentin should at least be involved," Lauren said with a sweet smile. Talking about the baby always lifted her spirits.
"Since you are the child's mother, you have the authority to choose the name. Don't worry about Quentin. I think any name you choose will be good," Jessica said.
"Alright, then, we won't worry about Quentin. He hasn't been home for so many days and hasn't even seen the baby yet," Lauren agreed and followed Jessica's words, but in her heart, she still hoped that when Quentin returned, they could discuss this matter together.
