Chapter 449 Wholehearted Care

Quentin nodded and carried Lauren up to a bedroom on the second floor, gently laying her on the bed. He quickly cleaned her wound as best as he could.

Thankfully, Noah acted fast and soon returned with a doctor who had been attending the wedding. The doctor was now unexpectedly needed.

Lauren's face had turned almost ghostly pale from the blood loss.

"Doc, how is she?" Quentin asked anxiously.

The doctor, showing a sense of duty, examined Lauren's wound, his brow furrowing slightly. He shook his head with a grave expression.

"Her wound is too deep, and she's lost a lot of blood. She's very weak. We don't have the proper medical equipment on this ship to treat her. Fortunately, the knife is blocking the blood vessel, which is temporarily stopping the bleeding. The longer we wait, the more dangerous it becomes if we don't reach the shore soon."

The doctor didn't need to say more; the message was clear.

Quentin grabbed the doctor's collar, his voice icy, "You have to save her. No mistakes."

The doctor nodded, visibly shaken by Quentin's cold demeanor, and quickly began to clean Lauren's wound.

Noah tried to reassure Quentin, "Hey, don't worry too much. We'll be docking in five minutes. I've already contacted the hospital, and they'll be waiting for us at the port. Lauren will be fine."

Quentin nodded, rubbing his temples. The day's events had been overwhelming.

Thanks to the doctor on the ship, Lauren's bleeding was temporarily stopped. As soon as they docked, Lauren was rushed to the hospital.

She was in surgery for five hours before her life was saved.

Quentin spent those five hours without eating or drinking, staring at the light above the operating room, dreading any bad news.

Matthew had been brought to the hospital by Sophia. He sat quietly next to Quentin, clutching his arm tightly.

"Dad, Mom's going to be okay, right?" Matthew asked nervously, his eyes filled with worry.

Quentin nodded, pulling Matthew into his arms and smoothing his messy hair. "Don't worry, buddy. Mom will be fine."

Just as he finished speaking, the light above the operating room went out, and the doctor and nurses emerged.

"Doc, how is she?" Quentin asked urgently.

The doctor nodded, "Everything went well. She's in the ward now. You can go see her, but we don't know when she'll wake up."

"What do you mean?" Quentin demanded, quickly sending Noah and Sophia to take Matthew away.

The doctor sighed and explained, "Sir, there's no need to worry. She lost a lot of blood, so we can't predict exactly when she'll wake up."

"Will she wake up?" Quentin asked, his face tense.

The doctor nodded reassuringly, "Yes, she will. Everyone's body is different, so we can't be certain. Go see her in the ward."

Quentin finally felt a bit of relief and rushed to the VIP room on the 12th floor.

Lauren lay there with her eyes closed, her breathing steady, but her face pale and exhausted. It was heartbreaking to see her like this.

Noah brought Matthew over. Seeing Quentin, Noah handed Matthew to him and prepared to leave with Sophia.

"Wait," Quentin called out, bringing Matthew to Noah. "Please take care of Matthew for the next few days. I'll be here with Lauren until she wakes up."

"Are you serious?" Noah asked, surprised. "What about the company? Some things need your attention."

"This is final," Quentin said firmly, not giving Noah a chance to argue.

He knelt at Matthew's level, ruffling his hair. "Matthew, you'll stay with Noah for a few days. Don't worry, Mom will be fine."

"But I want to see Mom," Matthew said, his voice small and sad.

Quentin's heart ached as he reassured him, "As soon as Mom wakes up, I'll bring you to see her."

Quentin didn't want Matthew to worry more by staying at the hospital. It was better for him to be at Noah's house where he could be properly cared for.

He watched Matthew leave, feeling a pang of sadness until he was out of sight.

Quentin sat by Lauren's side, holding her hand to his forehead, whispering, "Do you know how worried I am? You foolishly took that knife for me."

Lauren remained unresponsive, her eyes closed.

Quentin gently lifted her head, smoothing her hair. Seeing her so frail made his heart ache even more.

A tear rolled down Quentin's cheek.

For the next few days, he stayed by Lauren's side, taking care of her.

He moved his work to the hospital, getting a VIP room next door so he could be with her as soon as he finished working.

A week passed, and the wedding incident had calmed down. Noah, unable to handle Matthew's constant crying, brought him to the hospital.

As soon as he saw Quentin, Noah smirked, "Matthew's been a handful, insisting on coming here. And Sophia needs to rest."

Noah didn't finish, but Quentin understood. Without looking up, he said, "Alright, you can go. Thanks."

Quentin waved Matthew over, who happily ran into his arms.

Noah quickly left, not wanting to be assigned any more tasks by Quentin.

Matthew sat on Quentin's lap, asking, "How's Mom? I've been so worried, so I asked Mr. Martin to bring me here."

Quentin put down his work and carried Matthew to Lauren's room, letting him sit beside her. Standing next to Matthew, Quentin looked at Lauren with deep affection, whispering, "Soon."

Quentin didn't know when Lauren would wake up, but he was determined to stay by her side no matter what.

The weather took a strange turn, with a sudden downpour despite the clear skies earlier.

Matthew held Lauren's hand tightly, his lips pressed together. Though he was scared, he never disturbed Quentin.
