Chapter 429 Delay

The big, watery eyes looked at Lauren timidly and said, "The chef asked me to bring this to you."

Quentin had asked the chef to make this porridge for Lauren before he left. When he saw Lauren looking so pale as he walked in, his heart ached for her.

Lauren noticed that the porridge was brought by a stranger, and her guard went up immediately.

After all, Odette wasn't as harmless as she seemed, and it was wise to be cautious around strangers.

But seeing that the servant in front of her looked barely over twenty, Lauren's heart softened.

Lauren always believed that there were more kind people in the world than not. After all, not everyone was like Odette.

"What's your name?" Lauren asked softly, trying to slow down her speech as she sensed the person in front of her was a bit scared.

"My name is Theodosia. I'm here to help. I just started recently."

"Don't be nervous."

Lauren's lips curved into a slight smile.

She thought about how her haggard appearance might be a bit frightening. She touched her stomach, and the aroma of the porridge was too tempting, especially since she hadn't eaten much.

She took the porridge and started to eat.

But before she could take a bite, she noticed something was off.

She looked up and saw Theodosia staring longingly at the porridge in her hand.

"Do you want some?"

Lauren asked, her eyes gentle as she looked at Theodosia.

Theodosia eagerly nodded, her eyes fixed on the porridge, but she still looked a bit scared.

Lauren handed the porridge to Theodosia and touched her forehead gently. "I'm not very hungry. You can have it."

"Thank you."

Theodosia took the porridge from Lauren's hand and started drinking it right away, looking like she was starving. This made Lauren think of Matthew.

"I wonder if Matthew is hungry right now."

Lauren sighed, her heart full of worry.

"Why isn't he back yet?"

Downstairs, Odette was complaining.

It had been two hours, and Quentin hadn't returned. What on earth was going on?

The scene was almost set up, and Odette couldn't wait any longer. She took out her phone and called Quentin.

Quentin was at the office, investigating Matthew and Kimberly's situation, when Odette's call interrupted him. He showed a hint of annoyance.

Without a word, he put his phone on silent mode.

Seeing that Quentin's phone was unreachable, Odette didn't stop. She kept calling relentlessly.

Quentin glanced at his phone, which was still lighting up. Seeing that Odette had called five times, he frowned impatiently and reluctantly answered the call.

If he didn't answer, Quentin feared he might slip up.

"Quentin, where are you? Why is it taking so long? The scene is all set up, and I can't wait any longer."

Odette's voice was whiny, which Quentin found repulsive.

He suppressed his irritation and said coldly, "There's an issue at the office. I'll be back tonight. We'll take the wedding photos tomorrow."

Without waiting for Odette to respond, Quentin hung up. He didn't want to say another word to her.

Odette put down the phone, clenching her fists tightly, blaming everything on Lauren.

"It's all Lauren's fault," she muttered through gritted teeth.

"The scene is set, and the wedding dress has arrived. Can we start the shoot now?" The photographer, unaware of the tension, approached her to inform her that everything was ready.

Lauren's words echoed in her mind—she felt like an abandoned bride.

Odette's expression darkened, and the atmosphere grew cold and awkward.

Seeing no response from Odette, the photographer asked again.

"We won't be shooting today. Sorry for the trouble. Something came up last minute. Didn't Quentin inform you?" Odette spoke naturally, trying to ease the awkwardness.

After much thought, she decided this was the best way to handle it, though it didn't eliminate the awkwardness.

The photographer was taken aback, looking at the scene he had painstakingly set up, feeling a bit regretful.

But understanding the situation, he nodded quickly.

"It's okay. The lighting isn't great right now anyway," the photographer said a few professional words before leaving with his team.

It wasn't a big deal, but Odette felt it was a huge humiliation, all thanks to Lauren.

"Where is she?" Odette asked coldly.

"She's upstairs," a nearby servant replied meekly, not wanting to provoke Odette.

"She has the nerve to sit upstairs," Odette said through gritted teeth, her anger flaring up.

She stormed into Lauren's room, seeing Lauren talking to the servant. She maliciously thought Lauren was trying to win people over.

She shoved Theodosia aside and yelled, "Get out! This has nothing to do with you."

"What are you doing?" Lauren stood up abruptly, unable to tolerate Odette bullying an innocent person.

"If you want to vent, do it elsewhere. Get out of my room."

Lauren didn't want to have anything to do with Odette, but Odette kept barging in.

"Lauren, how dare you sit here?" Odette shouted angrily, pointing at Lauren with eyes full of hatred, as if she wanted to crush her.

"Ms. Foster, if you're not taking wedding photos, why are you causing a scene here? I'm just an ordinary person. Please, leave my room," Lauren said politely, but Odette took it as mockery.

Lauren had been staying in her room, avoiding the chaos downstairs, but she could guess what had happened.

After helping Theodosia up and comforting her briefly, Lauren turned to Odette with disdain.

"Your wedding photos didn't happen. Go find Quentin. Now, please leave."

Odette, unable to vent her frustration, stormed downstairs, throwing a fit.

Downstairs, she saw several servants waiting nervously.

She wanted to lash out, but suddenly put on a friendly face.
