Chapter 424 Provocation

Quentin got to the movie theater just five minutes before the film started. He and Odette had snagged some awesome seats, with a great view and sound.

Quentin thought the best part was that their seats were near the front, letting him kick back and relax.

These tickets were meant to cheer up Odette, and Quentin's role tonight was just to chill and be a bystander.

The movie plot and Odette were the real stars of the evening.

After sitting through five minutes of opening ads, Quentin closed his eyes and started to rest.

Meanwhile, back at the Robinson Family Villa, Lauren looked at the table full of delicious dishes and couldn't help but swallow.

Quentin's presence made a difference; she never imagined she would get such treatment.

The maids were on the verge of tears. They didn't want to be around Lauren, but they knew what had happened that morning and understood Quentin's warning.

If Lauren messed up even a little, they'd all be fired by Quentin.

In City A, everyone knew how desirable it was to work for the Robinson family—easy work with good pay, but high standards.

Being a maid for the Robinson family was something to brag about, but getting fired by Quentin meant that a good job in City A would be hard to find.

If it weren't for this, they wouldn't want to be in the same room as Lauren!

"Miss Walker, Mr. Walker is at the door and wants to see you," said a freckled maid, walking in from the living room.

Lauren frowned.

She only knew two men with the last name Walker: Ulysses and Gregory.

Neither of them was a simple character.

Lauren felt a headache coming on.

Even though she was Quentin's prisoner, she couldn't use that as an excuse to turn away visitors. She had to invite him in.

It was Gregory.

"What do you want, Mr. Walker?" Lauren asked.

Her tone was distant, with a hint of detachment.

Lauren hadn't forgotten the recording Quentin had shown her.

Before she knew the truth, she had been deceived terribly, believing everything Gregory said like a fool.

Now she was different. She knew the truth and would never trust him again.

"You're so cold, Lauren," Gregory sighed.

He wore a smile that made Lauren want to punch him.

"Sorry, I can't be warm towards you," Lauren said coldly.

Maybe spending so much time with Quentin had rubbed off on her; she now showed the same expression and tone as Quentin.

Equally chilling.

Couples often become more alike over time, and Lauren was a prime example.

She just didn't realize it herself.

"Hey, I'm here to give you a friendly reminder, and you treat me like this? It breaks my heart!"

Gregory put on a hurt expression, but his eyes showed a calm indifference.

"I don't think you're hurt," Lauren said bluntly. "What do you want to remind me about?"

"Quentin and Odette are together? I already know that."

Lauren's tone was sharp as she said this.

"Of course not. Before I tell you, let me ask you a question," Gregory said.

The fluorescent light cast a shadow over Gregory's bangs, giving his eyes a dark look.

Under this shadow, Gregory's scheming was evident.

"Go ahead," Lauren said, showing a guarded expression.

She had learned her lesson; no matter what Gregory said, she wouldn't believe him!

Lauren's new attitude intrigued Gregory.

Only Lauren could pique his interest.

Gregory was more determined than ever to win Lauren over, no matter the means!

"Has Quentin let you see Matthew recently?" Gregory asked.

Lauren was taken aback, then found it amusing.

"Isn't it funny for you to ask that?" Lauren said.

She hadn't forgotten who took Kimberly and Matthew away.

And now Gregory was asking this question, trying to shift the blame to Quentin?

"Not at all," Gregory seemed unfazed by Lauren's words.

He hadn't expected Lauren to trust Quentin, but it didn't matter; he had a plan.

Time was on his side, especially since Quentin had agreed to marry Odette.

No woman would believe her man would remain devoted to her after marrying someone else.

Gregory didn't know that Lauren had long stopped believing Quentin would be devoted to her. Her heart had died the day Odette returned.

That beating, fragile heart had been crushed by Quentin without hesitation.

"Lauren, Quentin rescued Kimberly and Matthew a long time ago; he just never told you."

Gregory was like a natural-born liar, spinning deceitful tales.

"Impossible," Lauren didn't believe Gregory.

Quentin had promised to rescue Kimberly and Matthew. He knew how worried she was about them, so he would never do what Gregory claimed!

At least Quentin always kept his promises to her.

Her private thoughts also played a role; she hoped it was true. Though she couldn't say it out loud, she used it to bolster her unconditional trust in Quentin.

"Why not?" Gregory countered.

He didn't know Lauren's thoughts but believed in people's inherent disloyalty.

"Do you trust Quentin? Don't forget, he was with Odette while you were about to be assaulted!"

This statement hit a sore spot for Lauren. She hadn't forgotten the photos she saw.

The photos weren't very clear, but Lauren felt they were the most glaring images in the world.

Not just glaring, but piercing her heart, causing unbearable pain.

"So what?" Lauren retorted.

God knows how much effort it took for her to maintain her calm demeanor.

To say the same calm, indifferent words.

When they first got married, Quentin had done the same thing. She was used to it, so it didn't bother her at all.
