Chapter 384 Lies
"Odette, snap out of it! This is the real world. How could there possibly be any curses?" Lauren said.
Lauren felt both angry and amused. She hadn't done anything, yet Odette was accusing her like this, which was absurd.
Odette laughed, a sarcastic sound that was grating to the ears. "Snap out of it? You're the one who needs to wake up, Lauren! Do you really think Quentin likes you?"
"Odette, what do you mean?" Lauren frowned. Did Quentin not like her at all? Was all the sweetness just an act?
Thinking of this, she glanced at Quentin.
He caught Lauren's gaze, and her look made him feel a pang of guilt, but now wasn't the time. He couldn't reveal the truth yet.
Seeing no reaction from him, Lauren's heart sank.
"What do I mean? Don't you get it? If Quentin hadn't lost his memory, he would have divorced you a long time ago!" Odette retorted.
Odette slowly got up from the ground, a cold smile playing on her lips. It seemed Quentin really had lost his memory. Even God was helping her! Wasn't this a perfect chance to win Quentin back? She would slowly push Lauren out of Quentin's life!
Odette said, "Quentin has told me everything. You're annoying and incompetent, always smug because you had his child. And the things you design? Their sales are plummeting."
Lauren's eyes widened, her legs feeling weak. Was this really how Quentin saw her?
Seeing Lauren's reaction, Odette added, "At first, I didn't know you well, so I thought Quentin was just complaining, like any husband would about his wife."
Odette glanced at Quentin, seeing no reaction from him, she became even more aggressive, her tone turning vicious. "But I realized I was wrong, Lauren. You're the heartless one. You're the real third wheel! A few years ago, you had nothing, so you didn't care about Quentin's private life. Now that Quentin has graciously let you have his child, you won't let him be with any other woman! Haven't you noticed that since I came back, Quentin hasn't looked at you properly? Do you know why? Because Quentin promised to marry me!"
Hearing this, Lauren's face turned pale. She was the third wheel? Quentin hated her? Then why did Quentin give up Robinson Conglomerate for her? Was it because of Matthew?
Could Quentin really be so heartless?
Lauren didn't dare to think. She wanted to find an excuse to comfort herself, but she couldn't.
"Is that true?" Lauren laughed, tears slipping from her eyes.
So it was all her wishful thinking. She had been so self-righteous, thinking Quentin truly loved her.
Lauren's vision blurred. She blinked, trying to stay clear-headed, and then she heard Quentin call Odette's name.
"Quentin, have you remembered me?" Odette squeezed out a couple of tears and walked over, trying to hold Quentin's hand, but he slapped her to the ground.
Quentin's face was expressionless, making it hard to believe that this man, who had lost his former sharpness, was now extremely angry.
He had broken his own rule of never hitting a woman.
Lauren was stunned. If she remembered correctly, Quentin prided himself on never hitting women. Was it because of his memory loss?
"Quentin, you hit me?" Odette seemed stunned, her eyes wide. "Do you really not remember me? I'm Odette! Your favorite Odette! You promised to marry me after you dumped Lauren!"
Quentin frowned and coldly said, "Shut up."
"Why! Do you really believe that bitch Lauren? She's the third wheel! The one who came between us!" Odette was hysterical, her voice sharp. Before Quentin could react, she glared viciously at Lauren. "Lauren, you wretched woman! Go to hell!"
Odette screamed, swinging her fists at Lauren. Lauren didn't react in time and was pinned to the ground, Odette's merciless fists raining down on her.
Lauren's survival instinct made her struggle and fight back a bit, but Odette still had the upper hand.
Odette punched Lauren's head a few times, making her nearly pass out. Her clenched fists gradually loosened. She thought she was going to die here today, then she felt Odette collapse on top of her.
She forced herself to look up and saw Quentin holding a syringe.
Lauren wanted to ask something, but her vision went black, and she fainted.
When Lauren woke up again, Odette was gone. She was lying next to Quentin, her forehead still throbbing with pain.
"Where's Odette?" Lauren asked.
Lauren didn't know how long she had slept. She only knew that her throat was dry and sore, her voice hoarse.
"Gone," Quentin said flatly. He didn't want to talk about Odette right now at all.
He looked at Lauren, feeling extremely guilty. If he hadn't let Odette be, Lauren wouldn't have gotten hurt. If he hadn't hesitated, Lauren wouldn't have been beaten.
This was all his fault.
Lauren didn't say anything. She didn't know whether to believe Odette's words or the memory-lost Quentin in front of her.
If he hadn't lost his memory, would he still have hit Odette?
Or would he, as Odette said, have divorced her?
Lauren's head hurt from thinking, and she fell into a deep sleep.
At the police station, there was a special visitor today, Odette.
"Noah, are you here to laugh at me?" Odette sneered, completely different from her usual sweet image.
"Of course not." Noah chuckled. He wasn't so mean as to come just to mock Odette. There were some things he had to clarify with her.
"Then what are you here for?" Odette leaned back in her chair. She didn't want to see Noah at all right now.
She hadn't forgotten that it was Noah who had brought her to the police station.
Noah didn't want to talk much either, so he got straight to the point. "The design plans of Robinson Conglomerate were leaked. This has something to do with you, right?"
Odette laughed, remembering what Gregory had said. Noah had indeed found out. "Since you already know, why are you here to confirm?"
"I want to know why," Noah said. "Also, I want to know who gave you the courage to betray Robinson Conglomerate?"
