Chapter 120 Cultivating Father-Son Bond
Lauren entered the hospital room to find that Noah had already left while Quentin lay idly on the bed, watching international news.
"Quentin," Lauren began but found herself at a loss for words.
Quentin, noticing Lauren's return, said, "You're back. Before leaving, Noah brought us some drinking water. If you're thirsty, have some."
Quentin's words made Lauren feel disdainful.
She could easily imagine that Quentin had forced Noah to do it. Quentin bullied Noah every time, making her feel sorry for Noah.
But now, Lauren was preoccupied with what Dr. Olivia had said. What she wanted to do next depended on whether Quentin was the one who took the ultrasound photos. If it wasn't Quentin, would it be awkward to bring it up directly?
"Alright," Lauren replied flatly, though she fidgeted with her fingers incessantly.
Quentin noticed Lauren's behavior and knew something was on her mind. Whenever Lauren had something on her mind, her hands would become more active.
"Do you have a question?" Quentin asked.
"No. I don't have any questions," Lauren's response was unusual, and even she felt it.
"I'll give you three seconds to ask your question, or you won't get another chance," Quentin said, looking at Lauren with such certainty that it made her quite displeased.
"Fine, I'll ask, but you have to be honest," Lauren said.
"It depends on the case." Quentin feigned indifference though he was eagerly waiting for Lauren to speak.
Lauren rolled her eyes. What did he mean?
"I heard you went to see my 4D ultrasound?" Lauren asked, somewhat agitated. Quentin always pretended not to care, even though he clearly cared about the baby. He never brought up the baby on his own.
Quentin exhaled deeply, not expecting Lauren to take this matter so seriously.
Lauren's thoughts were really quite simple.
"Yes, it seems your sources are quite good," Quentin replied.
"I am not specifically keeping an eye on you. I just happened to hear it from a doctor I'm familiar with," Lauren quickly explained. She wasn't like Quentin, who followed her around secretly, even sneaking a peek at the 4D ultrasound.
Lauren always did things openly and honestly.
"So?" Quentin raised an eyebrow, wondering what Lauren's point was.
Lauren blushed, hesitating even more. "So, do you actually like children?"
"Of course," Quentin replied, looking at Lauren with even more interest. Her blushing face was particularly adorable. He liked it very much.
Hearing Quentin's answer, Lauren was both happy and excited. She grabbed Quentin's uninjured hand, brimming with excitement.
"I knew it! But isn't it a bit out of character for you to follow me around so sneakily?" Lauren's sweet smile warmed Quentin's heart.
Though Lauren's words somewhat ruined the mood, Quentin still looked at her with a doting gaze.
"No matter, I won't need to resort to such low-level tactics anymore," Quentin said
"What do you mean?" Lauren asked.
"It doesn't mean anything. Alright, it would help if you were hungry by now. I had the chef prepare something delicious. I'll call the housekeeper to bring it over," Quentin said, taking out his phone to call the housekeeper.
Lauren sighed inwardly, 'The wealthy truly have it good. Even in hospitals, they can enjoy the highest level of service.'
While waiting for lunch, Lauren, with great interest, took out her phone and displayed the 4D ultrasound photos she had saved.
She placed the phone in front of Quentin, who glanced at it and asked curiously, "What's this about?"
"Well, don't you want to see them? I'm letting you have a good, proper look," Lauren said proudly.
Quentin remained indifferent. "I've already seen these. If you want to show me something, show me something new."
Pointing at the phone, Lauren said, "This is your child. Besides, a 4D ultrasound is usually done only once. I am lucky to have it done twice. Are you complaining? Mr. Robinson, your demands are too high. And can you even understand it?"
Sure enough, Quentin's expression changed slightly, becoming unnatural.
Lauren began to boast, "Do you want me to explain it to you?"
Quentin snorted, indicating his agreement.
Happily, Lauren pointed at the phone screen and said, "Look at this one. This is a frontal shot of the baby. These are the little eyes, and this raised area is the little nose. The nose looks quite delicate."
The baby's facial features were just like Quentin's, whose nose was high and well-defined.
Quentin stared deeply at the phone screen. The photo was so blurry that only Lauren could make sense of it.
It was impressive how clearly she could describe it.
However, upon closer inspection, Quentin found that what Lauren said did seem to match. He gave her a meaningful look while Lauren continued her explanation.
"Look, these are the little hands. During the check-up, the baby kept covering their eyes, which caused my first check-up to fail. It might be a little girl. Otherwise, why would they be so shy?" Lauren said.
"Either is fine," Quentin said, his words still few, but Lauren detected a gentle tone.
"Is either fine?"
"Boy or girl, it doesn't matter. Are you stupid?" Quentin lightly flicked Lauren's forehead with his finger. Talking to her, he couldn't afford to leave out a single word.
Lauren glared at him. "Don't call me stupid anymore. The baby is big enough now to hear everything you say."
"So what's the matter?" Quentin was indifferent.
Lauren put her phone away and said, "Do you understand prenatal education? What if the baby learns the words we say?"
Laughing, Quentin found Lauren's way of thinking truly unimaginable.
"Even if he doesn't know you're silly now, he'll figure it out after he's born," Quentin said, laughing heartily.
Seeing Quentin laugh so freely, Lauren was both surprised and delighted. She rarely saw Quentin laugh like this or show genuine emotion.
His laughter was rarer than a shooting star. Today, she felt incredibly lucky, so much so that she forgot to retort.
Noticing Lauren staring at him, Quentin awkwardly furrowed his brow, the smile fading from his face.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
