Chapter 381 The Truth
Odette's hands trembled uncontrollably, her beautiful eyes wide open, staring straight at the headline news on her phone screen. "How could this happen? Was it an accident or intentional? Is Quentin okay? Could he already be..."
Odette didn't dare to think further. During her years in Weitela, she had seen news from City A and knew Quentin would marry someone else. After meeting Lauren, she had also thought Quentin might be taken away by Lauren, but she never imagined Quentin would leave her for another world.
"No, it can't be." Odette comforted herself. She decided to find Gregory and get to the bottom of it. If Gregory orchestrated this car accident, she would never let him off! Even if it meant falling out with him, she would expose his actions.
"Fish soup is here!" Perhaps influenced by Quentin, Lauren's tone also became relaxed, making Kimberly, who was secretly wiping her tears at the door, breathe a sigh of relief.
'It seems Lauren hasn't been affected.' Kimberly thought, then left reassured.
"It smells so good!" Quentin exclaimed, taking a deep breath of the fish soup aroma filling the room with Matthew.
Lauren smiled slightly, scooped two bowls of fish soup with a spoon, and handed them to Matthew and Quentin.
Matthew happily took the fish soup, blew on the edge of the bowl, and drank it contentedly.
Quentin, however, didn't take the soup immediately. Instead, he blinked at Lauren, thinking his meaning was very clear.
Lauren was stunned and boldly guessed that Quentin was waiting for her to feed him?
As if to confirm Lauren's guess, Quentin opened his mouth.
Lauren chuckled helplessly, scooped up some fish soup with a spoon, blew on it, and then fed it to Quentin.
"Not bad." Quentin nodded in appreciation.
"You used to say that a lot." Lauren said, her thoughts drifting back to a long time ago. When she was first pregnant, Quentin seemed to come home every noon for her good cooking, eating on time.
Most women were sentimental creatures, and Lauren was no exception.
Thinking about how five years had passed, and the once proud and cold Quentin was now like this, Lauren couldn't help but get teary-eyed.
Lauren closed her eyes, trying to convince herself to control her emotions, but she found it really difficult, at least for her right now.
Just as she was about to open her eyes, Lauren suddenly felt a warm touch on her face. She opened her eyes abruptly and met Quentin's gaze.
They were so close that she could see every eyelash of Quentin's eyes, and Quentin's hand was gently caressing her face, as if touching the most delicate doll in the world.
She saw her reflection in Quentin's eyes, his eyes filled with tenderness, and her reflection was immersed in it. For a moment, she forgot what she was doing.
"Quentin." She didn't know how long it had been, but Lauren felt her vocal cords vibrate and make a sound.
"I'm here." Quentin replied.
Lauren felt her nose tingle, and Quentin's face in front of her gradually blurred. Warm liquid slid down from her eyes, following the curve of her face, responding to gravity, gradually cooling, and finally falling into the bowl she was holding.
"I'll get you a new bowl." Lauren finally realized she was feeding Quentin soup.
She put the bowl aside, turned around to wipe away her tears, and was about to pour out the fish soup tainted by her tears when Quentin beat her to it, picked up the bowl, and drank it in a few gulps before saying. "Your tears don't taste good at all, so don't cry anymore."
"Okay." Lauren forced a smile and nodded in agreement.
The president's office of the Cloud Group was a bit lively now.
After hearing Odette's question, Gregory asked disdainfully. "So you came to me for this?"
Should he call Odette stupid? Or too naive? He had hidden his identity, letting Quentin live easily for so many years. Gregory's goal was to one day openly take over the Robinson Conglomerate. He would never resort to such lowly means as a car accident, nor did he need to.
"Gregory, I don't care if you're the president of the Cloud Group or anyone else. If you did this, I will never let you off!" Odette said fiercely, her eyes bloodshot, clearly having cried hard before coming here. Unfortunately, this did not evoke any pity from Gregory.
On the contrary, her threats had the opposite effect on Gregory.
Gregory hated being threatened the most. He had originally intended to tell Odette the truth, considering they had worked together, but now he changed his mind.
"Alright, so how are you going to make me suffer?" Gregory crossed his fingers on the table, his gaze falling on Odette's face.
Her sweet face now looked somewhat ferocious, but Odette was unaware.
Hearing Gregory's words, the hatred in Odette's eyes deepened.
Now she was certain that this car accident was Gregory's doing, although she didn't understand why Gregory hated Quentin so much. The Cloud Group and Robinson Conglomerate had no competition, and Gregory had only met Quentin a few days ago.
What made Gregory so eager to get rid of Quentin, Odette couldn't figure out.
Odette said, "Don't forget, I know everything you've done to the Robinson Conglomerate. First, you took the design drawings from Lauren's office, then handed them to a small studio."
After hearing Odette's words, Gregory laughed, and then, under Odette's puzzled gaze, he explained, "I hope Ms. Foster doesn't forget two things. First, the person who stole the design drawings from Lauren's office was Declan. Everyone knows Declan likes you, and he also knows you don't like Lauren. If someone said Declan stole the design drawings to please you, do you think people would believe it?"
Gregory added, "Second, you were the one who found the person to go to that studio, and you gave him the design drawings. The only thing I did in the whole matter was to sit back and reap the benefits, while you played a crucial role. If Noah investigates, do you think he would deal with you or me?"
After hearing this, Odette's face turned pale. She still remembered that when they had agreed to find someone to deliver the design drawings, Gregory had said he was feeling unwell and asked her to go herself.
So he had planned not to take any responsibility from the beginning?
