Chapter 463 Chief Designer

The three people in the conference room instinctively looked up at the newcomer.

When Daryl saw who it was, his legs started shaking uncontrollably. "Mr. Robinson, what brings you here?"

Maeve, upon hearing Quentin had arrived, quickly tidied her hair, hoping to present her best self in front of him.

But Quentin didn't even glance at her. He walked straight past her and, in front of everyone, wrapped his arm around Lauren's waist, his voice devoid of any emotion.

"You think you can mess with my people on my turf and I wouldn't show up?"

"Mr. Robinson, your... your people?" Daryl's incredulous gaze shifted to Lauren.

No wonder she had confidently claimed she could call Felix. It turned out she was the very woman everyone in the company had been gossiping about—Quentin's wife.

Daryl now wished he could slap himself. He desperately hoped he could turn back time to just before he entered the conference room, so he could undo all his mistakes.

"What, you got a problem with that?" Quentin's casual glance sent chills down Daryl's spine, and he quickly shook his head. "No, no, you two are perfect together. I was blind and foolish."

"I heard from Felix that you wanted my wife to apologize to this woman. Is that true?"

Standing in front of Quentin, Daryl felt like he could barely breathe, his brain starting to lack oxygen.

His face turned red with shame. "I'm sorry, Mr. Robinson. I didn't know this lady was your wife."

"Even if she weren't my wife, since when does an outsider get to call the shots on Robinson Conglomerate's turf?"

Quentin's disdainful laugh seemed to carry a hidden meaning, and everyone's gaze shifted to Maeve.

Maeve felt a mix of excitement and anxiety as everyone suddenly focused on her. She tried to walk gracefully up to Quentin.

"Hello, Mr. Robinson. I'm the new housing designer, Maeve. It's an honor to meet the famous Mr. Robinson. I hope we can have a great collaboration in the future."

"That's not necessary." Quentin cut off Maeve's introduction coldly. Her expression froze for a moment, but quickly returned to normal.

"Mr. Robinson, what do you mean by that? I admit I had a bit of a disagreement with your wife earlier, but there's no need to let that affect my collaboration with Robinson Conglomerate. You're a smart man, Mr. Robinson. You should know how to maximize your interests."

"No need. Robinson Conglomerate won't be collaborating with you. You're fired."

Maeve's perfect facade finally began to crack at Quentin's words, and she struggled to control her temper.

"Mr. Robinson, may I ask why? Just because of a little disagreement with your wife, Robinson Conglomerate is ending our collaboration? Isn't that a bit unwise?"

But Quentin was done with her. His gaze shifted to Daryl.

"Which department are you a manager of? Why haven't I seen you before?"

Daryl hurriedly approached Quentin, bowing and scraping. "Mr. Robinson, I'm the manager of the newly established design department, so you might not have seen me before."

"Newly established?" Quentin's brows furrowed slightly, a hint of confusion in his eyes.

Felix quickly whispered an explanation to him. "Mr. Robinson, you mentioned expanding into the housing design field earlier. So, I instructed them to set up a new design department."

With Felix's reminder, Quentin recalled that when Lauren had just returned to the country, he had impulsively ordered Robinson Conglomerate to expand into housing design out of spite.

"Does our company not have anyone more capable? How did someone like this become a manager?"

Quentin glanced at Daryl twice before looking away.

Though his face remained impassive, the coldness in his tone made it clear to everyone that Quentin was angry.

This time, Maeve couldn't hold back. "Mr. Robinson, what do you mean by that? Are you saying I'm not capable enough to work at Robinson Conglomerate?"

Quentin finally looked at her. "It's good that you have some self-awareness. Saves me the trouble of saying it."

Maeve, feeling her professional pride attacked, was determined to fight back.

"Mr. Robinson, regardless of our previous conflicts, when it comes to housing design, there's probably no one better than me in the country."

She puffed out her chest proudly, expecting to see a change in Quentin's expression.

But to her surprise, both Quentin and his secretary seemed on the verge of laughing, as if they found her words ridiculous.

Felix, stifling his laughter, cleared his throat. "Ms. Harrington, I apologize, but let me introduce you. Mrs. Robinson recently won the Best Newcomer Award at the International Architecture Design Competition, and her mentor is the renowned Mr. Borgia."

"Impossible!" Maeve instinctively retorted.

"Why not?" Lauren stepped out from behind Quentin. "Just because you can't do something doesn't mean others can't. You might have heard, Mr. Borgia, my mentor, recently took on a new student. That student is me."

Maeve wasn't the only one shocked. Daryl, standing beside her, was equally stunned.

If he had known Lauren was such a renowned designer, he wouldn't have wasted so much effort trying to please Maeve. Daryl was now filled with regret.

At that moment, Felix received a call, responded briefly, and hung up.

"Mrs. Robinson, I've completed your onboarding process. From now on, you're the chief designer of Robinson Conglomerate's design department."

Hearing this, Maeve took a few steps back. Her main goal in coming to Robinson Conglomerate today was to secure the chief designer position.

Now, not only had she lost the opportunity, but she had also offended Robinson Conglomerate. Maeve's face turned grim.

However, she quickly adjusted her mood and walked up to Lauren with a smile. "I'm really sorry, Mrs. Robinson. I was blind and offended you earlier. Can you be magnanimous and not hold it against me?"

Lauren looked at her in surprise. "You certainly know how to adapt. I accept your apology, but I'm afraid I can't forgive you."
