Chapter 322 As Expected, Sophia is an Excellent Actress
After Sophia left Quentin's villa, she didn't waste a second and called Ruby right away.
Ruby was kicking herself for not finding out sooner that the secret was out. She wanted Quentin and Sophia's engagement to go off without a hitch even more than Sophia did. So, even though she wasn't thrilled about it, Ruby agreed to go with Sophia to apologize to Lauren.
It was already 9 PM, and Kimberly was still tied up at the beauty salon and hadn't made it home yet. Lauren hadn't told Kimberly about her and Matthew's kidnapping to keep her from worrying.
Lauren had just put Matthew to bed when there was a knock at the door. Seeing it was Sophia and Ruby, Lauren's face turned icy, but she still opened the door.
Sophia ditched her usual haughty attitude and went for the sympathy angle.
"Miss Walker, please forgive us!" Sophia pleaded.
Lauren frowned, not quite understanding what Sophia was talking about, but she knew Sophia was here to perform again. This time, she even brought Ruby along.
Lauren's gut feeling was spot on; Ruby and Sophia were definitely here to put on a show, with one playing the cold part and the other the humble one.
"Miss Hall, are you sleepwalking or just pulling my leg? We have no connection whatsoever, so why are you here late at night talking about forgiveness?" Lauren said sarcastically.
Sophia had always looked down on Lauren. Today, Quentin had forced her to come and apologize, which made her super uncomfortable, but she had no choice.
With a forced smile, she patiently explained to Lauren, "I know about you and Matthew being kidnapped by the Obsidian Gang today. Actually, it had nothing to do with us, but my mom accidentally told the Obsidian Gang where you were. Quentin mistakenly thought she was in on it. Miss Walker, you're kind. Despite our past differences, I trust you wouldn't turn a blind eye if my mom and I were in trouble, right? We have truly been wronged."
Sophia's tone was frantic, like her hair was on fire. Lauren watched coolly; she wasn't dumb and could see through their hidden agenda.
Lauren smirked at Sophia and Ruby. They'd said all that just to prove to Quentin they were innocent, and once again, she was being used as a pawn to help Sophia and Quentin make up.
"Miss Hall, since you keep insisting it's a misunderstanding, I'll choose to see it that way. It's late, you should go," Lauren said coldly, preparing to close the door.
Seeing they were about to be kicked out, Ruby wasn't having it. Even though she used to be Sophia's dad's mistress, she was still respected. She couldn't stand this humiliation or see Sophia suffer.
"Lauren, don't be so full of yourself. Who do you think you are to disrespect us? Have you forgotten your shameful past?" Ruby pushed Lauren and barged in.
Lauren wasn't mad; she just looked at the two ridiculous people with amusement.
"Did you come to apologize or curse me? Who do you think you are?" Lauren retorted.
Sophia turned beet red at Lauren's words. She had hoped Ruby would lash out at Lauren to vent their anger, but instead, Lauren had the upper hand. Still, she couldn't afford to mess things up with Lauren again, so she pulled the fuming Ruby back and kept playing the humble, apologetic role.
"Miss Walker, I'm really sorry. My mom was just too anxious. We genuinely came to apologize. Quentin is mad at me because of this. If this gets out, it might make things awkward for you too. Aren't you going to marry Ethan? If he finds out you accidentally messed up my engagement with Quentin, he might not be too happy," Sophia said softly. If you ignored the content, it almost sounded like she was being nice.
Lauren laughed in disbelief at Sophia's shamelessness. She had never seen anyone as brazen as Sophia. She was almost impressed by Sophia's ability to twist the truth. Even now, Sophia was blaming her and pointing out her faults.
"Miss Hall, I'm not as good with words as you. I don't deserve your apology. Do what you want," Lauren said coldly. She felt that talking to people like Sophia and Ruby would just bring their filth into her home.
Sophia smirked, continuing softly, "Miss Walker, we sincerely came to apologize. Even though you and Quentin have no future, it doesn't mean we can't be friends."
"Stop acting. There's no one else here. You don't need to put on such a show." Lauren finally couldn't hold back any longer.
Sophia was a pro at acting, seamlessly changing her expressions to fit the scene. Now, she looked all wronged, tears welling up in her eyes, like she could cry any second. "Miss Walker, my love for Quentin is deeper than you can imagine. I beg you, please don't ruin us anymore, okay?"
Lauren looked puzzled. She had seen Sophia's skill in shifting blame.
"Fine, you win. I'll thank God as long as you peacefully become Quentin's wife and stop bothering me. But if you try to harm me or Matthew again, I won't tolerate it, even if it means mutual destruction," Lauren said fiercely to Sophia and Ruby.
Ruby shouted, "Fuck! Look at yourself, you bitch. Do you think you can fight us?"
"Mom, enough, stop talking!" Sophia yelled at Ruby, then coldly looked at Lauren and said, "As long as you stay away from Quentin, we won't bother you."
"Fine. I accept your apology today. Just don't show up in front of me again!" Lauren watched as Sophia dragged Ruby out the door, then she slammed it shut without blinking.
After sending Sophia away, Lauren breathed a sigh of relief, poured herself a glass of water, and sat in the living room, lost in thought.
Today's drama was finally over. She had cleared things up with Ethan, let go of her grudge with Sophia, and no longer harbored hatred for Quentin.
For her, a life without love or hate was the best.
