Chapter 164 Celebration Day

Seeing Lauren, Quentin's eyes lit up for a second but quickly dimmed.

He muttered, "Grandma."

Ignoring him, Jessica said, "Today’s Matthew’s one-month birthday. Let’s just enjoy the meal. Sit down."

Quentin nodded and walked over, his eyes on Lauren, but she didn't look back.

He stopped by the nanny holding Matthew.

Quentin was thrilled. In just over twenty days, Matthew had changed a lot. His wide eyes stared at Quentin, and he had gotten chubbier. Quentin's heart melted.

"Can I hold him?" Quentin asked, his voice hoarse.

Lauren felt a pang of sadness and whispered, "Sure."

Quentin rubbed his palms together, full of anticipation. He carefully took Matthew from the nanny, his whole body stiffening, afraid to move.

The nanny chuckled at Quentin's awkwardness. She gently advised, "Mr. Robinson, just relax. Support his head with your arm and let him lie comfortably."

Quentin clumsily adjusted his posture, still feeling off.

Lauren watched Quentin's awkwardness with a smile but said nothing.

Jessica glanced at Lauren and then teased, "How could Matthew have such a clumsy dad?"

Quentin lowered his head, feeling anxious.

Finally, with the nanny's help, Quentin managed to hold Matthew correctly. He held onto him until the food was served.

Quentin handed Matthew back to the nanny and nervously sat across from Lauren.

"Lauren, eat more. You’re still recovering. Don’t worry too much. All the food today is your favorite. Try it," Jessica said with a smile.

Lauren took a bite and said, "It does taste good. Grandma, you should eat more too."

"Alright. Even though today is Matthew’s celebration, it’s us adults who are eating. He can’t have a bite," Jessica said happily. If Lauren and Quentin had remarried, she would be even happier.

Lauren smiled and said, "Yes, the celebration is more for us. He’s too young to eat or understand."

Lauren and Jessica chatted happily at the table, leaving Quentin out.

Whenever Lauren looked up, she saw Quentin eating with his head down, looking quite aggrieved.

Lauren felt a mix of emotions.

Jessica glanced at Lauren and Quentin, planning to leave after eating enough.

"Lauren, I’m done. I’ll rest in the room. Matthew is asleep, so the nanny will put him to bed," Jessica said.

"Okay, I’ll come see you after I finish eating," Lauren said.

"No need, you should rest too," having said that, Jessica gave Quentin a meaningful look.

Jessica had done all she could. Now it was up to him to seize the moment.

Jessica and the others left, leaving just Lauren and Quentin. Lauren could hear her own heartbeat and felt uncomfortable. Just as she was about to leave, Quentin called out to her.

"Lauren, can we talk?" Quentin asked as he quickly walked over to her.

Lauren agreed since she had something to say to Quentin too.

"Sure, I have something to tell you as well," Lauren said.

They sat down on the couch, and Quentin looked intently at Lauren. "Go ahead," he said.

Lauren fell into deep thought. She wanted to discuss Ulysses, fearing he would find Quentin and make unreasonable demands. He hadn't shown up today, but knowing his personality, he eventually would.

"My parents know about our divorce," Lauren said, feeling a bit heavy-hearted.

Quentin felt even worse hearing this. He thought keeping it from the Walker family would help him win Lauren back. Now that it was out in the open, things got more complicated.

"Did they give you a hard time? I'll go explain to them. Don't worry," Quentin said after a moment.

"No need. I've already handled it. But my dad is concerned about the financial aspect. He's not happy with the agreement. Don't worry, I'm not asking for anything or trying to take the Robinson Conglomerate assets. Please don't take my dad's demands personally," Lauren said, feeling scattered and struggling to explain.

Quentin trusted Lauren; she wasn't greedy. If she were, she wouldn't have left with nothing when they divorced.

"It's okay. I understand. But I want to hear it from you directly. Whatever you need, I'll give it to you," Quentin said.

He didn't say 'including myself' out loud, but his eager gaze at Lauren said it all.

Lauren felt a rush of heat under Quentin's gaze. What was this? They were already divorced, and this atmosphere was entirely inappropriate.

"No, thank you. I don't have any demands. I'll try to persuade my dad. If he makes unreasonable requests, don't agree. If he says anything unpleasant, please don't mind," Lauren said.

"Alright, whatever you say," Quentin interrupted, speaking first.

He would do his best to resolve anything that troubled Lauren. Even if Ulysses made unreasonable demands, as long as Lauren was willing, he wouldn't mind.

Quentin's words were too ambiguous. Without thinking much, Lauren nodded lightly in agreement.

"Are you done talking? Can you listen to me seriously now?" Quentin said gently and warmly.
